Gaming Cyberpunk 2077 (PC, PS4/5, Xbox One)

Lambs has usually been very harsh on games that are coming out these days. I hardly remember him really liking (or even not at least slightly hating) any big release in the last years. He has deep knowledge about industry but his threshold for a good game is much, much higher than a normal consumer so you have to take that into consideration. If he has a single good thing to say about a game it probably means everyone else will like it. And it's completely understandable because with experience in that industry his attention to detail and perception of what is quality and what is not should be different from a casual gamer.

I also think there's kinds of games which people can't see how other people wouldn't want certain mechanics. I read all the comments about Witcher 3 and the arguments about whether it was amazing or clunky. I saw people asking for souls-type combat and how if they added that it would be a perfect game. I think a fair proportion of the people who did rate Witcher 3 as one of the best ever would actually hate that (me included) as I wasn't looking for an in--depth fighting game with lots of depth to the combat as it would have detracted from what I saw as the main purpose which was building your character, the story and world exploration.

It's the same with Cyberpunk to an extent. Ignoring the bugs, the style of the game isn't designed to be a Doom style shooter or something where the mechanics supercede or equal the atmosphere or world building. This latest discussion about levelling up enemies just shows that people want different things from their games not that there's a right or wrong. Personally I like the fact the game has enemies that are fixed level and that you can see the level in the map so you can pick and choose who to fight as it shows your characters progression. I'm taking out the moderate ones early and saving the rest until later as I think was intended.

I don't think levelling up the enemies would work for the type of game I want from it but I can see why other people would dislike the fact it doesn't.

What platform? I'm confident behind the technical issues there's a brilliant game. All the reviewers I trust believe so and based on the first 5 hours it's right up my alley. But due to that, and me being in no rush to play this game I want to experience properly, I'm going for the refund. Base PS4 version right now just doesn't stack up.
XSX. Yeah I would be getting a refund on last gen, just to make a point if nothing else. Way too poor on there

Im replaying Deus Ex: Human Revolution until they fix this to get my dystopian cyberpunk fix.

I've downloaded the patch, I doubt it's gonna change much when it comes to the ps4 so I will probably try to sell the game by the end of the week. It's been such a fecking ridiculious experience on the PS4, I'm lost for words how they decided to release such a piece of garbage.
It doesn't help that two weeks ago their CEO said in an investors call that the PS4/One version ran "surprisingly well".

Even though I'm playing on PC, this initial backlash has dampened a lot of my enthusiasm. Rather than playing this over xmas, I'll probably look to get it when the price drops at some point next year.

I'm sure it is still a great game, but I have a backlog of great games to play. So I can wait.

Really hoping my brother didn't buy me this for Xmas on the PS4. I'll get it for the PC later in the year after they've done a lot of fixing.

This I don't get.

If you're enjoying it who gives a shit if others aren't.

I'm thoroughly enjoying myself. Don't take the criticism to heart.

I agree. I appreciate that technically this game isn't where it should be and I sort of expected that because a) CDPR struggled with getting a quality product out at release with Witcher 3 too, b) it involved a lot of elements they had never used in games before and had no experience with (it's a relatively inexperienced studio remember), c) when all the delays happened it became apparent that there were major issues with the game. There's still a quality game beneath that with great, engaging world and a decent story and for me it's been perfectly enjoyable (albeit on PS5, someone playing on PS4 may have a different perspective as those bugs will be bothering them more). The product is not as good as it should be and I wish they had taken extra 6 months and developed this as next-gen only title but investor's pressure forced them into decisions they probably wish they wouldn't have made.

But didn't they actually announce the game before the PS4 was released? I'm guessing it's difficult to develop for a console which predecessor isn't even out yet.

He made a knock off flappy bird. Don't give @Redlambs too much credit.

One thing is for sure this whole fiasco with ps4/xbox one versions is going to take a hell of a long time for CDPR's reputation to come even half way back to where it was before. I hope it means that they are going to give us some amazing content in the future. Although on the other hand it might scare them off from trying to make modern/futuristic open world games ever again.

I bet they can't wait to start working on Witcher 4 instead and it's less intensive countryside environments.
Yeah I bet they wish they just made Witcher 4 and released it now instead like

It wouldn't have had quite the same buzz, but still plenty, and their reputation would presumably be in tact for years to come.

Personally I can’t stand the scaling in odyssey. It feels like you never get stronger,, I like the idea of going back to previous areas and just destroying.

Personally though I do think Skyrim has the best level scaling system. They introduce higher level enemies as you progress. At the start it’s just bandits, then they add bandit thugs, by end game you are tackling multiple boss types who are visually better equipped.
I think the idea in AC: Odyssey was that pure stat increases were compensated by the scaling enemies but at the same time you're building up an arsenal of abilities and passives that should gradually increase your advantage over enemies. The balance didn't feel right though, so you never really felt yourself progressing all that much.

I like fixed level enemies but it does become problematic if you're in an open world where a well travelled area is too easy after a while. Complementing the standard enemies (which you can now face stomp) with a couple of tougher challenges feels like the best solution to me, like what you're saying about Skyrim. It's much better than an average joe still being a match for your now godlike character, as in Odyssey.

I have a feeling that's what the cyber questline enemies are supposed to be. I've only fought 3 so far, with 1 being easy and the other 2 being a nightmare at my current level. I had to pull out of one of those fights to revisit later.

IGN’s updated review was damning, basically telling you to get a refund.

Sorry should have made that clearer. I will be playing on PC - don't have it yet.
And as I said, I have so many games to play over xmas. If they can iron out some bugs in the next few months, great, I'll pick it up then.

It's hard to argue with that.

On the PC there's plenty of people in the city, yet it still feels lifeless and perhaps worse, soulless

There's only so much of the same dumpster next to endless (and pointless) vending machines you can see.
Not sure if it irks you, but I'm finding wandering around the open world city and finding an abundance of locked doors annoying... especially so when the building looks interesting and has 'OPEN!' slapped all around it! Clearly not open sir!

this is my stance too, I’ve only just finished God of War and have about 10 other games in my backlog so may as well hold off and see what state it’s in next year

The crowd/car density needs fixing. More so the car spawn rate. Im on PC so I can turn the crowd density up to high but its still super rare to see more than like 4-5 cars on the streets/roads.

Def immersion killer.

So if anyone’s still having trouble running this game smoothly with the game looking decent these are my settings, @1440p on a rtx 3070 (but after a friend using a rtx 2070super these settings scale)

contact shadows. On
Improved facial. On
Local shadow mesh. High
Local shadow quality. High
Cascade shadow range. High
Cascade shadow res. Medium
Distant shadow res. High
Volumetric fog res. High
Volumetric cloud. Medium
Max dynamic detail. Ultra
Screen space reflections. Low
Subsurface scattering quality. High
Ambient occlusion. Low
Colour precision. Medium
Mirror quality. High
Level of detail. High

RT settings

raytraced reflections. On
Raytraced shadows. Off. (The reflections add more to the game I didn’t notice any difference between the look of the game with this off)
Raytraced light. Medium
Image quality dlss. 1080p quality, 1440p balanced 4K performance

Hope this helps anyone still not getting consistent frame rates.

also driving will drop frames no matter gpu it seems to be linked To CPU,

I had to turn RT off on my 2060 Super. Just could not get stable FPS no matter what I did with the normal settings, so decided to run on ultra @ 1440p with it off instead. Shame as it did look great.

And yet I still manage to get hit by cars when I cross the road. If this game had a Perception stat, I'd set mine to 1. Or 0.

But yeah, a more bustling city would be nice. The atmosphere feels best around those parts where there's a lot of people.

Crazy they actually released the game in such a state... another delay would probably have pissed people off sure, but wouldn't have been worse then this?

Anyway, I'll play it in a year's time on the PS5... I'm sure by that point it'll be great!

Dunno, maybe they did the financials in their head and figured it'd be better to release it now as opposed to delaying it another year. They had a lot riding on this - it's five years since The Witcher 3 came out and this cost them a fortune to make so it's very possible they just didn't have the budget to do another year of development.

Still seems mad to me but I guess if they do patch it to the high heavens for the next year and it becomes the game it was supposed to be.. they'll regain a lot of that lost faith and people will probably talk about it as a great game like Skyrim, Fallout: NV and other very buggy on release games of that ilk.

What I REALLY don't get it how they thought it was in any way a good idea to release the ps4 and xbox versions. They should've just released the PC and stadia versions and delayed those til next year. Madness.

They got massive reserves of cash. They could have easily waited another year. Also, they could have remastered Witcher 3 for PS5/XSX which would have sold well too.

Aren't they already doing this and saying it's free if you already own Witcher 3?

Yeah that's what they are doing. But a re-release for a smaller price would have been fair too. That's what Rockstar have done with GTA twice already (I mean PS5/XSX version is still pending but you will have to pay full price for it when it gets released I bet).

The game is so dark at times. I’m trying to check out something in some basement and I genuinely can’t see what I’m doing. Wish you could shine a torch or something.

Doesn’t help that the midday sun is blasting by right through the curtains. Can’t see shit.

Genuinely been stuck in a basement for 20 minutes now. Cannot see a thing and it’s telling me to follow the lights.

I remember that mission and having the same problem. Iirc I think there's a purplish/pinky light somewhere which is the way you need to go.

Ahh, don't I hated that mission! Go to the locked door with the light and then turn directly around 180 and you can get under the floor. It was an absolute shambles but I did laugh when the lights came back on and the room felt way bigger than when I was scrambling around in the dark.

The npc car AI is also dumb af. I often park my car in the middle of the road, get off to do a gig or side mission, and when I come back I just see a line of cars patiently waiting behind mine. I mean they couldn't have driven around it?
