Cristiano Ronaldo - Much Ado About Al Nassr

After yesterday's loss and today's UCL win by Real, Ronaldo should definitely be put under suicide watch:lol:

Real after Ronaldo in 6 years
2 UCL
3 La Liga
1 UEFA Super Cup
1 FIFA Club World Cup
3 Spanish Super Cup
1 Copa Del Rey

Considering its basically a brand new team now, Kroos and Carvajal aside, i don't really get this narrative.

What is he supposed to do, exactly, stop RM from existing?

For all the years he was there I think Ronaldo only won like 2 La Ligas in his Madrid' career. Obviously won 4 Champions Leagues which is amazing achievement but they've been even better without him or as good.

If you want to look at it that way, okay.

Could also be that we don't have to contend with a rival that gets 90 something points in the league, every season anymore.

For me the best versions of those Madrids while he was there were better than this current team, winning or not. Even if some rivals in thsoe years played better than them, it doesn't take away that even on the "loosing" side some of those Madrids with CR were fantastic and really entertaining teams to watch.
Yeah I agree actually and they came really close in 2012 as well but I mean in terms of actual trophies they've only continued winning and even improved in the league as they weren't that great in that regard in 2008-2018 period.

He'd probably like to do that if possible. 'You shouldn't win anything without me'

I wouldn't doubt it, doesn't change my point though, this team is almost completely unrelated to him at this point, so it doesn't add or take away much from what he did in his time at the club.

Don't think anyone suggested it does.

What’s the context here?

Saw it posted up yesterday, the guy he’s applauding was one of the guys that got sent off.

Looked it up, turns out that’s from a match a while back, so it wasn’t him being petty towards him for being sent off yesterday.

Instead it was after he’d rolled around pretending to be hurt and then getting back up again. Still, pretty ironic for Ronaldo to make a meal out of that.

They haven’t been better. Just the competition has been worse, particularly in the league. Their current direct rivals couldn’t hold a candle to what they were when Ronaldo was there. Madrid used to lose leagues after finishing with 95+ points consistently.

Yeah you're right I wasn't clear - they've had as much success (in league even more) as then. Obviously competition is worse.

Crying over your national team as a teenager is a bit different than crying about losing a match that means literally nothing as a geriatric.

That's the thing about Ronaldo though. It's to a certain degree a unique case in football, to the point you could call it a borderline obsession. It's not different for him, at all, the pain is always there. Context doesn't matter. He always has a *cause* he's figthing for, regardless of where he is playing. He finds himself a purpose. He latches on to it, it keeps him hooked on living and breathing football 24/7. I don't know how he does it. I guess he described it better than me:

“I don’t know where this feeling came from. It was just inside of me. It’s like a hunger that never goes away. When you lose, it’s like you’re starving. When you win, it’s still like you’re starving, but you ate a little crumb.”

I'm absolutely fine with people mocking him, and I even enjoy the memes about him, but personally it's something that I really love about Cristiano. If he wasn't like this, he would have achieved way less.

Obviously, crying over your national team will always be a bit different than crying about a SA Cup Final, but that would also be the case comparing with the Premier League or the Champions League or La Liga.

But for Ronaldos ego, this must kill him. No doubt he hoped they became mid table without him. He and his fans loved the lie that Messi had Xavi Iniesta etc and poor Ronaldo had nobody. Turns out 2x Balon DOr winners and a squad of world class winners. The perception of his supporting cast has changed so much with the more casual fan in the last few years.

He is. Still all time Cl topscorer. Anyway its Madrid. Did people think they would stop winning trophies?

Point it's easier to win CLs with Madrid out of any other club because of their money, history, obsession, expectations, pedigree in the competition.

Well i mean its easier to win with stacked squads and quality managers but of course the best players in the world will want to play for those.

Barca were stronger as well?

Hope Ronaldo has a final hurrah, scores 10 at the euros and wins the final with a hattrick and a van basten goal making it 3-2 in the 95th minute of stoppage.

Still an incredible finisher. We could have made it work at United but we were too fixated on playing a high press.

Nah he 100% needed to leave, what he’s doing now doesn’t change that. Was a circus around him, undermined the manager, had constant tantrums if he was subbed and took away from the team. Saudi suits him.

Nah his goose was well and truly cooked. We create so little that a poacher would thrive on (and have done in general under most managers) he’d have really struggled.
