Cricket:India's tour of England 2011

What a performance this is by the lads. England the best test side in the world. Growing up in the 90s. I never thought I'd see the day.

On the flip side India are shocking. No fight whatsoever. No spirit. Theyve looked uninterested.

Ofcourse. This isn't the IPL. No reason for our players to care.

Sadly, India are a joke. What a shame to see this kind of pathetic effort for Tendulkar's last tour of England.

I'm more worried about our performance than the fact it's his last tour to England. We were the #1 team but look worse than Bangladesh right now.

Yea, that's how we were able to reach to no.1 test side in the world

Main reason for this debacle has been horrible preparations:
- No warm up games.
- Not surprising that Dravid and Laxman who went to WI have looked in much better touch than others.
-Then add to this the hectic schedule we had before coming here. SA tour, WC, IPL, WI series.
- New up coming players like Raina are just not technically good enough yet to cut it in foreign pitches.
- We need a proper spinner- BIG TIME.
- Finally the fitness of some our players is starting to become a worry as well. Zaheer is just too fragile these days.

FWIW I think beating England on their home turf was always going to be hard. They are one the best sides around and you always back a strong team to win at home no matter what but this kind of capitulation is just not acceptable.

All very well, but how did they become No. 1 in the first place? Surely not by having no depth in the squad to replace injured players, they can't have got to No. 1 without a bank of players fighting for places in the team, in the same way as England have lost 1st choice players to injury and the '2nd' choice have stepped up and made reselection of the 1st choice a difficult decision.

They have made No 1 without a proper spinner and only 1 decent paceman? Surely not possible?

The preparation hasn't been ideal, but we are on to the 3rd Test now, surely the performances should improve as the No 1 Test team get back in the groove?

Pie chuckers

What is the world record? 400+ ? It's Lara isn't it?

I reckon I could score a century against that bowling attack on this pitch.

Feel a bit for Bopara, he must be annoyed at the amount of chances Morgan has been given by India.

Still think Bopara would make a better number 6 for England than the Irishman.

Morgan is number 5...

I'm almost beyond the point of gloating now, I'm starting to feel a bit sorry for them.

For this match only. I meant long term when Trott rightly is back in the side.

I've gotten past feeling sorry for them myself, like Plech said the fact that they have been so underprepared has made what should have been a contest frankly a walkover so far.

Yep. And Pakistan's produce some of the best fast bowlers(and spinners) to have graced the game despite those conditions, so yeah, it's not a valid argument.

I reckon it's because their Pashtun population have fecking amazing genes in terms of fast-twitch muscle. Seriously, just look at all the incredible fast bowlers that ethnic group has produced. On that note, even Afghanistan's pace bowlers are brilliant. It's not an accident.

The Pashtuns would hammer the West Africans at sprint races if they turned their minds to it.

This is my most racist post ever.

Thing is we all knew India's bowling is a weakness. What has been incredibly disappointing is India's lack of fight with the bat barring Dravid. They came with the reputation as the most talented batting lineup in the world but they've played like a bunch of kittens.

Whereas someone like Strauss, Cook, Trott and even Pietersen have taken time to build an innings in difficult conditions, the Indian batsmen just couldn't seem to get the hang of that notion.

There is no way they should've been bowled for 224 on that pitch had they bothered to see out the first 2-3 hours.

Credit to England thought, they've seized the opportunity to become no.1. I had hoped for a closer fight however.

For some reason I got it into my head Bell was normally 6, no idea why though, probably because him and Prior has been a common partnership.

Don't need to go that far, get out tomorrow, chuck the bat at it, up the run rate, declare at lunch, most of them will be gone by close of play tomorrow.

We're talking about Cook breaking the world record, far from unthinkable and quite reasonable with the time we have left.

I hope England declare after 2 sessions max.. I enjoy watching India bat, although it doesnt last long these days

 Just read the last few overs of the Cricinfo commentary. Can't believe Dravid dropped another catch at the end of the day. India were dreadful in the field yesterday, and their joking and mucking about wouldn't have done much to improve their fans' mood.

I also cannot understand why, if the ball keeps dropping short of the slips, you wouldn't simply move the slips five yards forward. It's not as though there's enough pace on the ball to make reaction time a problem.

England will score more than 700 runs and then declare. We'll get bowled out for less than 300.

Dhoni's not a very bright guy most of the time

This is the worst test series I've seen. I thought England Bangladesh was better. There was a point at which Bangladesh could've drawn a test.

The performances have been similar and Bangladesh didn't pretend to be #1.

Sep 16th England tour ends.. Sep 23 CL T20.. brilliant..

It would be great if the likes of Sachin, Dhoni etc could skip this and take some rest, but they won't.

Sachin prioritizes T20. If any other player did what he does, I'd be calling him a twat

Yeah but their best and fastest bowlers have come from the Punjab...can't think of many genuine pacers from the NW but I agree, genetics do play a factor. And I'm stronger than the lot of you...therefore I'm genetically superior.

I'd assumed they were all Pashtuns/Pathans, but according to wiki, this is the list of famous Pathan cricketers: Shahid Afridi, Imran Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Umar Gul, Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, Junaid Khan and Younis Khan.

I might have to rethink this.

and of those only half come from the NW. My family originates from Ghazni, Melb....I can take your bullets.

Think it's a tad early to declare at lunch, still got two full days (rain aside) to bowl these out even if we bat today out. But, in saying that, it'd be good fun to watch ours batsmen really go for it and with Morgan in, why not?
