5 million pay off.

The key points appear to be as follows:

* David Moyes will be replaced in the interim at the Manchester United helm by Ryan Giggs and Nicky But.

* The failure of David Moyes to reach the Champions League means he will be paid off just 4.5 – 5 million pounds by Manchester United – equating to payment of one year’s wages.

* Louis van Gaal has thrown his hat into the ring (on the back page of The Sun) before David Moyes was already sacked. The Daily Mail claim the Dutch coach is “first in line.”

* Jurgen Klopp is tipped to be contacted by Manchester United but it appears the amiable German wants to stay at Borussia Dortmund.

* The decision to sack Moyes was possibly made in February. The Mirror claim some Manchester United players knew about it before the defeat at Everton.

He's not going to get anywhere near the club until August after the WC, we're at a disadvantage already. Is he really the best option?

He doesn't need to be near the club until the word cup. Our issues aren't issues that needs a David Moyes inspired 11 month fact-finding mission. Most top managers in the game probably have already a portfolio on 'what I'd do if...' (ring bound and everything), or at least strong ideas about what they'd do at this club. He's also managed at the top level before and would already have an extensive scouting knowledge an contacts and wouldn't like the present Mrs Manchester United, have to learn those particular ropes in addition to everything else.

Not liking the way this has been handled nevertheless Moyes has not shown enough of anything to suggest he is the right calibre of leader for Manchester United. I feel like I could almost forgive the abject performances if he had been a passionate speaker, a man with a clear direction and drive. I think he has known for a long time this wasn't gonna end well for him. Too much hope and belief, United need personality and arrogance.

I was on the side of him being given at least two seasons to improve and get us challenging but he is so uninspiring and he has quite obviously not got the respect of the fans or players.

I was listening to Ogden on 5live earlier and he said something along the lines of when Moyes walked into a dressing room full of players who had won everything in domestic football, having just beheaded the whole support team who coached them to many titles, they looked at him and asked the question; "...right then, so how are you going to help me win more medals?".

SAF once said too that you should never let a winning team grow old together as is apparent from previous decades when he mercilessly cut off and threw out then perceived indispensable players. Unfortunately he let this one do just that and his successor neither had the authority, assertiveness and respect gaining credentials to cut the chaff.

Sorry David, wish you the best of luck but the poison chalice has claimed it's first victim.

Class post that, i agree on the two season thing too, him having his own team etc but it's obvious he's lost the dressing room.

It's got nothing to do with a few humblings. That in itself is condescending on your part, I posted with respect to most and continue to do so however when others direct me with disrespect and insults then I too returned them and continue to do so.

If you want respect then you too must give it.

Not sure what you mean here, do you want me to post 3 or 4 incorrect statements regarding Moyes? If so, I will do it tomorrow, I'm off in a minute.

They gave him every possible chance and that's their method. He went 7 games unbeaten before losing to Everton and Newcastle in December before winning another 4 games and then 1st of January things started to get worse. But just prior to the opening of the Jan window they might very well have sanctioned the Mata transfer as it was getting close, and they had good reason to as we had lost 2 in 13 showing we were improving.

They were willing to trust him and gave him what they considered a fair chance. They are playing the long game, they want United to be successful but in the short term they were willing to take a calculated risk. I don't think there is anything wrong with their mentality of affording the manager a fair chance, I think allowing Mata to sign was the right thing due to what appeared to be an improvement in results prior to January 1st. I think in the long run United will be successful therefore everything they have done, including what has been dubbed the failed david moyes experiment, has been done with the long term in mind tolerating short term sacrifice.

Financially they will recover. Lack of champions league football (one could argue) will give us greater focus on the league, although I want Europa to keep the big squad happy however I think we should play mostly our second string to keep the main eleven fresh for the league.

If we sign Louis van Gaal or whoever else, he will get time and I think we could mount a serious title challenge next season. The problem with van Gaal is the timing as he has a busy and tiring summer planned.

The bolded point kind of sums up what your saying without all the rest, reports are now suggesting we were ready to sack him as early as February (after the Olympiakos debacle) which would fall in exact alignment as to when patience finally ran out for anyone who's watched the game for any length of time. It seems we've been playing the waiting game and that this clause of top four or CL football exists on some level. If we have indeed waited until now it might prove to be a gigantic cock up short term and actually see us lose out financially than had we cut our losses when it was clear he was out of his depth. Taking a point or 3 off Liverpool would also have had a massive impact had we had a management team in place that knew what Manchester United was all about, Phelan would still jump at the chance, even Queiroz could have been brought back with Giggs as interim. Gigantic mess that could/should have been avoided or at least lanced before the wound became to large.

Can't believe it's not been announced already. Seems stupid to let it drag on.

You're making it out like his views are exclusive to United? He has made his views in regards to this known for a while now, and in several other cases where managers have been sacked (in his opinion) prematurely. His values are based on patience, and giving people a chance to grow into their roles, and to rectify the mistakes they've made. It's not rocket science.

I don't understand how you can't see where he's coming from just because you disagree with him. I'm 100 % in the Moyes out camp, but hearing opposing at the very least makes you think about your position.

Back to what I said -- the only people who would get that chance to "grow into their roles" are Sir Alex's buddies, since they're the only people who'd get the job handed to them with such a complete lack of qualifications & ability.

I'm a bit more cynical about GN -- there's too much of an old boy's club out there to expect most people to go against the tide.

I wonder if a Hitler-in-the-bunker video has been put up yet on youtube. Better have me a looksee...

I hardly think this is a "ruthless" sacking.

We've given him a lot more time than most clubs would have done, and he's had chance after chance.

If anything we've been lenient with him. Most clubs would have sacked him around Christmas.
I agree
We have missed badly in all competitions, and our form if anything has got worse.
Moyes seems a nice bloke, just bit off more than he could chew. Anyone following SAF was always going to struggle, but we have deteriorated badly under his guidance. He has been given long enough , probably to long. Onwards and upwards

Ducker and Ogden both reckon Klopp is the man we should go for.
We should definitely inquire and do our best, but it appears he isn't available unfortunately. I can see a lot on here throwing a strop and discrediting Van Gaal from the start because they wanted Klopp so badly.

Ducker would know feck all about Klopp's commitment and plans for the future, if the German press say he's definitely going nowhere, I'd be inclined to believe them rather than speculate that he'd be unable to turn us down.

All the press seem to think it will be announced tomorrow. It was the same for SAF retirement, looked very likely night before, a lot of rumours and then early the next morning it was confirmed.

So!

Klopp hasn't said anything, everyone is telling everyone else he's not gonna come, we just don't know. I personally expect Woody to fly over there, get on his knees and pucker-up, in the name of the club.

If we don't try everything in our might to get this guy and we end up with a half arsed attempt again, I'm going home.

Has a Fabregas/Fellaini feel to it. :nervous:

I live in Northern California and I heard from a friend today that even radio AM 680 -- which is all about the Giants and the 49ers all the time and almost nothing else -- had an extensive discussion of the Moyes situation at Old Trafford. This is as extraordinary as a Manchester radio station devoting an afternoon of talk about the San Francisco 49ers.

I'm getting emails and texts from my amigos, none of whom care much for United at all who understand my United affiliation. An Arsenal buddy just called me to rub the salt in but concede that it would be good for United and good for the sport in general, were Moyes to be sacked immediately.

For the love of God, just sack him now!

that's weird and great at the same time.

The newbs always managed to find fantastic sources, when I was in the newbs, I would often read both the newbs thread and the mains thread on a topic. The newbs would often find information that would never be posted in the mains. Bet their thread is a cracker.

Also, don't believe a word this rag writes but... someone might be bored, or something: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ent-running-Alex-Ferguson-pushing-change.html

It being day one for me as a full member, why is it that Newbies can read the main forum & not visa versa?

I hear from a friend in Boston that it's the same there

;)

No need for us to. The newbs isn't a place where people should want to stay, it's there fundamentally to filter out the idiots. I think that's the official line anyway. Would defeat the point if we could use both once promoted. Welcome up though!

Reading the newbs would be fun, but I suppose there needs to be a rule so that every thread here isn't "LOL @ what this newbie said"

It would be cool if recently promoted people could use the newbie section(for one day) when the sacking becomes official. It would be good for them to settle a few arguments lol.

 feck me, he's a head case. He'll ruffle a few feathers, I'm unsure how suitable he'd be with some of our prima donnas.

I can just picture him on MUTV now responding to one of Rio's tweets. it would be box office

Yep. Newbies is, and always has been meant to be a short term filter. Aside from a few scouts and the modmins, nobody else should really need to view it.

About 4:20 Klopp talks about his future, and even mentions Premier League. I don't know enough about Dortmund's or Klopp's current situation to claim that it's possible to get him at this very moment in time, but in general he doesn't seem against the idea of managing in England. Perhaps it's too soon and he wants to see through his work at Dortmund, but if Woodward can present him with an excellent offer my gut feeling is that he's at least consider it.

But then again experts in Germany say "no fecking way, mates"....

Thought so. I read and lurk a lot more than I post

Lads can someone summarise the news for me? I was up to page 30 and then I went, so I'm way behind. It seems the leak came from the club and the sacking is coming tomorrow, what else did I miss?

Think that's exactly what we need, someone who won't stand for underperforming or not afraid to voice his opinion. Would much rather have a exciting/slightly crazy and strong minded manager then a boring guy like Moyes in charge though, that's for sure.

gotta love this from Van Gaal

He's something else. At the very least even if we continued to be shit next season, with him in charge it would at least be entertaining.

If it is a fake, there is plenty of other stuff that back up the fact he's a madman.
