Confirmed: Moyes sacked.

I agree, Giggs should be assistant to whoever comes in for at least 5 years. After that we assess it again.
Absolutely, the path will certainly be made as we go, but I would imagine "them" to make some sort of tentative long term plan if we go with Van Gaal who'll be seen a somewhat short term option. To fail to plan is to plan to fail etc.

One thing for sure. If Moyes gets the sack im sure a few bottom half clubs will be willing to hire him. Think of WBA, WHU, Norwich type of club.
That's where I see his career now. He won't ever get a stint as long as his Everton one ever again. All I can see is him jumping about between bottom to midtable clubs every few seasons

It's a nice idea but can we really afford to take a chance on Giggs after all that's happened, even if it's after a few years? Would be a huge gamble imo and one that could once again run the club into the ground and diminish the reputation of a United legend.
He'll definitely have the player's respect if that was the main issue. That in itself will be a major improvement.

I still cant believe this is happening. Surely someone has fed 1 journalist false information and they are all using it as gospel.

Not too excited about Van Gal

If I'm honest I wasn't crazy about the talk of him a few months back but now it all looks possible I actually think he'd be a really good appointment for the time being now that I've had time to actually really think about it. Good record, very good tactically, aims for attacking football and has managed at numerous top clubs as well as at International level. I think right now he might be the best available in all honesty. I'd love Klopp but it's never going to happen.

Quite excited either way to see what happens.

At times this has felt as if some kind of power struggle between factions of the board/senior club management have been played out - with some wanting to sack and some still defending. It's almost as if the simultaneous leaking of the story has been designed to force the hand of recalicitrant board members. As I pointed out earlier, these stories can then gather their own momentum and so present the board with almost a fait accompli. If there really was a difference behind the scenes, those who wanted Moyes out have played a blinder - Machiavelli himself would have been proud of the intricacies of the plot.

The wrinkles in Moyes' face increased exponentially during this season.

But he got paid 5 million for his troubles and now will get paid 4.5 million to be sacked. I'm sure close to 10 million pounds can help you get over a bad year.

Come on, Ryan Giggs,
At least pretend that you give two frigs.
Unlike Moyes, Moyes, Moyes!
Unlike Moyes, Moyes, Moyes!

I can't remember the press ever being this sure of anything that didn't turn out to be true. All the papers are running it as front page news and journalists are explicitly stating that this is not a rumour. If it isn't true they are all going to look incredibly bad

You never answered my question from earlier. If a United win would give Liverpool the title and be meaningless for United, would you want them to lose or would that make you "a modern shitty fan" as Randall says.

It's not the scenario this season, Liverpool will win the title.

That said, you would sooner United lose just to hurt Liverpool than United win and Liverpool too. Losing becomes a habit, it should not be tolerated. The standards of Manchester United Football Club have been set long ago and we don't tolerate losing, well you do, but everybody else doesn't.

Your desire for Liverpool to lose is greater than United to win, you care more about Liverpool losing than United winning

If its a veteran manager like Van Gaal, yes but if its a young manager like Klopp, you'd not want anyone with that kind of influence around unless the manager explicitly requests for that. Klopp is only 5 years older than Giggs and both are pretty strong characters.

I have to say its remarkable given how long the club had to think about what happens when Sir Alex retires that they so badly picked his successor, no interview process, no history of winning trophies required. Just be Scottish.

Don't forget van Gaal got the ball rolling for Bayern when he took over. Heynckes & now Guardiola are all benefitting from his early work.

Ogden saying Moyes will have to show up to training as usual as this mess is being sorted out by the suits. That's some awkward 'The Office' shit at Carrington tomorrow.

"But, you know, Van Gaal will make one too many mistakes. Head Office will see what I already knew, and they go in there, they will march in there. They go, Right, yeah, David was right. You've pissed off him and you've pissed off him. You're not the manager you thought you were. Okay. So get out, we made the mistake. Then they drag him out by his hair and that's when the begging starts. They'll come to me and say, Ooh, David you were right all along, you were the right man for this job, you're the best man for this job. Will you come back? I'll be like, yeah sure how much money have you got? Because this is going to cost you, this is going to cost you."

The future...

Moyes to be sacked Tuesday: Giggs, Butt to take helm in interim (Telegraph)

David Moyes will be sacked as Manchester United manager on Tuesday after the club’s owners, the Glazer family, decided to end the Scot’s disastrous tenure at Old Trafford.

Ryan Giggs, with Nicky Butt as his assistant, will take charge until the end of the season. Giggs has served as player-coach under Moyes while Butt has worked with the reserves.

Can we stop quoting this guy. Fake account.
The fake one has been deleted, it was OliverKayTmes - this is the real Oliver Kay. His handle is OliverKayTimes, chief football correspondent for The Times.

I don't see Giggs being a head coach at a club like United, really can't. He has to learn everything still on being a coach but suddenly he is going to become head coach of one of the biggest teams in the world, bullshit for me. If they can't think of anyone else than Giggs then they haven't gotten a clue and might aswell stick with Moyes.

I don't know, it just seems like a probable plan given the way things seem to be panning out. And like I said, I don't think Giggs will take charge any time soon, just that he will be groomed for the role. I'd be surprised if they've decided to run with this now without having made some sort of plans for both the short and long term. Of course things happen, plans change, get tossed etc. It's just my completely uneducated suggestion of what might happen ;) I do find it strange if Giggs takes charge for the remanding games without being offered some sort of role for next season though!

Sunderland probably. Poyet is bad news and won't hang around for very long if he thinks he can get something better. If we get Van Gaal he'll be desperate for the Spurs gig.

Mitten, who has close ties with the club says Moyes at United is over.

  • Players started turning as early as October. I suspect such players were RVP, Rio, Vidic + more. (Mitten didn't mention any names, I'm just speculating)
  • Moyes was forgiven for the early bad start due to the fixture list
  • Pressure was growing after failing to win games against teams such as West Brom and then the increasingly disappointing home record
  • 2-0 loss to Olympiakos made things worse (despite the turn around in the second leg)
  • Hierarchy lost a lot of faith after 3-0 losses against City and Liverpool
  • Failure to reach top four and finishing 7th.
All seems reasonable and he isn't the type to BS. I think he called the Mata transfer and also SAF's retirement.

I am looking forward to the reaction Giggs would get walking out as manager, even if just for a few games.
