Confirmed: Moyes sacked.

I think any new manager would need to be able to start planning signings from right now. Moyes didn't start the job until July and it fecked up our Summer transfer window. It'll be the thinking behimd why the sacking is coming now and not after the last game.

Absolutely no chance of getting Simeone or Klopp. Getting Giggs when he's still working towards his UEFA coaching badges is stupid, and Queiroz would be better off as a coach not a manager. Leaves us with Van Gaal
I dont think Simeone would be a good choice, i've heard some of his training methods are really intense and he doesn't really interact with the players leaving his coaches to work with them.

It has to be Klopp for me, the guy ticks all of the boxes. Gets the most out of players, plays good football, won things, seems to have a Mourinho type bond with players which i think is important at a club like United - SAF was eager to have United as close like a family to create a us vs them mentality which would have helped this season...

I would imagine a deal in principal has already been done with any of the prospective managers to come in at seasons end.
I reckon giggs would take charge and I would not be surprised to see phil neville being the only one to stay on also (not sure how loyal to moyes he would be) would absolutely love to see Rene back as assistant.
My preference would be anchelotti as permanent manager with rene, giggs, phil as the backroom team.

But the crazy thing is we all found out in April about Sir Alex leaving, but Moyes was told back in February or March before it leaked out, he had lots of time before July to plan things out, I just don't think he used the time well.

Look at Felliani, he could have been brought in nearly 2 months before he was, at 4 million cheaper and not cup-tied but Moyes dithered and wasted time.

Look at it this way. Tim Sherwood has Spurs above us. Anyone would be an improvement.
enough of an improvement to write off another year/ possibly write off 70m in investment if he doesn't have time for felli and mata and probably cost us the chance to get some money out of glazers/solve some massive squad problems this summer? Cos this is what we will be giving up

As manager? Why?

He was rated very highly, not only by the manager but also by the players. Tactially, he has to be miles ahead of Moyes and he also knows the club very well. If I recall correctly he was credited with our strategy and preperation ahead of the semi final against Barcelona in 08.

That said, I'd prefer van Gaal or Klopp ahead of Carlos.

The likely reason for the delay is severance negotiations with lawyers/agents for Moyes and his backroom staff.
Hopefully all back room staff will be gone and we will bring back Rene and Phelan to accommodate a smoothie transition for the new manager next season. Meanwhile, it's no brainer to have Giggs (and maybe one more senior player) being assigned as caretaker(s). If there is a chance Vidic changed his mind to staying, then the transition is even smoother. Any incoming manager would know how to keep useful employees to make transition easy. Impending exciting news will be the best news this season. Please let this be true

If Moyes is sacked, I would've thought that top managers would be fighting for this job:

  • Huge club
  • You get to come in to a situation where the expectations have been massively lowered
  • Massive budget available from your first transfer window, to spend as you like (no DOF or meddling owners)
  • Very faithful and supportive matchgoing fans

I must admit, mate, I'm disappointed (if these rumours prove to be correct). However, this season has been a major disappointment, no two ways about it.

I'm as annoyed with the players more so than anything at present. We fork out serious money to watch them play and some of them just piss about because they don't fancy the manager. Well, I'm sorry, but that just isn't good enough.

As I've said before, I wanted Klopp last summer but grew to respect Moyes and saw potential in what he was trying to achieve here. As I've also said as well: the best job in football management wasn't to follow Ferguson, it was to follow the man who succeeded him. It may well prove that way, unfortunately for Moyes.

It's been a nightmare from start to finish for all concerned mate and this needs putting to bed now so we can all move on. Moyes managerial ability has it limit and that limit is seemingly not at our level, it may have had a certain romance had he come in and learned how to be our manager but the decision on the back room staff left him floundering around alone.
I get your point on the players but the very very top level hinges on such fine margins of belief and motivation, tactics and planning that if you don't fully believe in what your doing then it's very difficult to get that level of performance to peak. Just look down the M62 at that shower of shite and how the belief in the plan and philosophy can take adequate players to a level above, we've been on the exact flip side of their situation this season and it won't ever change under Moyes unless we gut the squad and even then there's no guarantee. Financially he simply has to go and I would personally prefer he resigned and left with dignity instead of a fat pay off.
If he goes then our next appointment has to be a huge one, one that champion players can look to with awe and fear, Klopp is my first choice too but I would take a Van Gaal until Klopps contract runs down with Dortmund.

Moyes can't complain if he goes. Personally with the managers that are available I don't think this is the right thing for the club. We're going to get with Van Gaal, and as I've argued in countless threads and am not willing to get into now, I don't think he's a good enough manager. That means to me we'll have to change manager again in a few years which is a disaster. Any money we do have must be spent year on year with the same vision in mind if we are to compete with billionaire clubs. It's the only way we will compete consistently in my eyes. I really hope the new manager is here for the long run and not a stop gap who will waste more money

He has pretty much failed as a number one on numerous occasions, though, right?

I'd gladly have him back as a coach but I'd be very wary of having him as manager.

 I would say that you are delighted anyway. All your giving out about moyes has come through in the end.

Hopefully, I'm quietly confident that the end of our suffering is close to an end.

Now, if only I was on the board and we sacked him back in November we might have salvaged something from this season.

Rene or Phelan will not be bought back unless the new manager decides otherwise. Vidic has already signed a contract.

Moyes sacked. Round is taking over. :nervous:
Raises a good point, if Moyes goes i assume all the background staff will go too.

(still annoyed he brought his own people in - which i think he only did because he knew it would keep him in the job longer as we would have no other alternatives to take over)

Didn't Klopp just sign an extension or was he just being rumoured to have?
He did and i believe that takes him to 2018. But i think we should just hire a helicopter and keep tossing wads of cash at his feet until he decides to join
