Cole Palmer | Chelsea Player

yet his club deems him not good enough for the europa conference league.

I think that’s fair, no? Why would Palmer have seen Zola play?

Yes, I posted about that in another thread saying it made me feel old but there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

He was 1 year old when Zola left Chelsea and didn't grow up as a Chelsea fan.

Being honest I don't know much about United players who left the club when I was 1 in 1980 and they're my team. I definitely haven't watched other clubs players who left the country or retired in that year much at all.

As has already been said, better than bullshitting saying he's a big hero of his like lots of others would.

What do you mean with "has already been dealt with"? Must have passed me by.
Essentially, when Chelsea started doing their 7 year contracts, the loophole was that they could spread the costs over that entire time. Now I think it has been maxed out at a fix of five years, despite the length of contract. Hence, super long contracts do not provide an FFP loopholes anymore.
Mo Salah and Erling Haaland say hello.

Also, for him to consider a move to Spain or Germany, those clubs have to actually want him, and I haven't heard any rumours of Madrid or Barca desperately wanting to add him to their ranks. Probably would need to keep up his form for longer for that to happen (whether he goes or not).

Oh for sure. He needs to keep his form up, but I am not sure there are many signs he won't.

As for Salah and Haaland. Yes, they're both great goal scorers but they do not usually split teams open like Palmer does with his passing. In addition, if you look at Palmers catalogue of goals (much smaller sample granted) he also appears to have a greater range of goal types. Just off the top of my head Palmer has a first time finish from outside the Box in a Euros final. A postage stamp perfect freekick from 30 yards. Rounded a keeper and CB at very close quarters with multiple deft touches (I think Luton....) and has a couple of first time chips from 30+ yards against GK's who have got themselves caught out of position. Then there is the fact he is automatic from the spot.

obviously, Palmer still needs to show this form for a longer period, but I would say he has shown a more rounded game, with a wider range of finishes than those two in 2024.

He'll be a regular starter for England under the new manager. He's England's best player by a mile.

Some good goals and some good play, but also a lot of penalties. Last season, at least.

Watching him, I don't see this genius that lots of others on here seem to see. I see a gifted young player. No more, no less. Although he's not even that young anymore, at 22.

Salah is very much capable of similar passes Palmer displayed

@TheMagicFoolBus Just watch the video below
Good thing that wasn't a assist.

In case you guys doubted his passing, just watch this. This compilation is 3 years old btw

Salah isn't a bad passer by any means - but he's still not as good at passing as Palmer.

Some of Salah's passing from the right is unbelievable and the very highest class - but Palmer drops deeper into central areas and is a far bigger threat as a result on top of also being absolutely lethal from the right.

All I'm saying is that Palmer's pass isn't something Salah won't be able to do because of a lack of ability but more so because of what you really described well in terms of positioning and role on the pitch

Bit of a chicken and egg situation then - I don't really think Salah is effective dropping deep or into central areas. So perhaps he could have hit that pass in isolation but I don't think he could have received the ball facing his own goal, turned, and then smashed it perfectly.

A major part of why Salah is so good at passing is defenders have to give him space since his first step is so quick and they're often isolated against him 1v1. This isn't to take credit away from him but I just don't think Salah is capable of playing the same level of creative passes from congested central areas.

We'll never know for sure I guess but I have no doubt he could. Palmer's pass was fantastic to be fair

Another good example of a player capable of brilliant passing.

Yet weirdly not a player I'd call a "good passer" if I was being serious.

Players who can do those eye of the needle 30 - 40 yard passes that can split a defence are always fun though.

My favourite of all time.

I wouldn't either tbh. I'd say he's a player capable of moments of true brilliance but unfortunately not consistently doing the basic stuff

I thought the fascination with these sort of interviews wore off with Haaland but I was wrong

Cole Palmer scores again. He reminds me of a young Wayne Rooney. Chelsea will be title contenders next season. They're back.

If Chelsea can turn things around then so can United.
