City and Financial Doping | Charged by PL with numerous FFP breaches | Hearing begins 16th September 2024

You literally can’t. You sign a contract at the start of every season saying you agree not to take PL judgments to outside courts.
It’s why CAS is off the table.
Depends on what you get charged with. From my brief reading around it appears you do not have a option to go to CAS which usually deals with sporting regulations; I am sure there is an appeals process but I am not sure there is a legal one. The PL has clear rules saying they can pretty much do what they want and you signed these willingly. Hence, you're hamstrung a little here as, this is a little like some bloke getting kicked out of the local golf club for using juiced up clubs in tournaments.

So, I am not sure a court will save you if you can get it there, unless of course, the main cause for punishment is owing to something more to do with taxes which is a HMRC issue.

I'll hold my hands up and say that I genuinly didn't know about the fact of the contract with PL. Fair enough, and thanks for enlightening me. Point still stands though

But that is interesting actually, I was convinced this would be food for the high court after appeal.

They shouldn't be banished to league 1, they should be banished to the footballing league in Abu Dhabi, everyone would win from this, their sports washing owner can continue cook the books without ever being charged, pep can have it even easier winning titles and even maybe win the champions league again except it will be the Asian one and English and European football will be rid of one less plastic oil sugar daddy club

I think City are in big trouble. The fact that the EPL have even named names (Mancini) shows they must have hard evidence. Even after this independent tribunal is over I'm sure the taxman will then be all over them and that will then maybe even mean jailtime for some along with City being dumped to League one or worse.
Their next derby game could be against FC United.........

If there is a weak punishment for this, the likes of City and others just won't give a feck in future and do all sorts of beneath the table things. UEFA failed their test, let's hope the FA have more about them.

That's why they won't get off lightly. The PL is at stake here. They don't compile a dossier with 100+ charges ranging from small violations to extremely serious ones for a slap on the wrist. City are going down otherwise the PL is finished.

How can Kaveh or anybody else speculate on punishment without knowing how many of the breaches they will be found guilty of?

If the majority of those things are proven how on earth can they get away with a small points deduction. I know Kaveh talks horse but anyone referring to the punishment is also totally uninformed.

That goes both ways. The prudent thing for everyone to do is shut the feck up until years down the line when the final decision is made... But that won't happen at all, so speculation on a slap on the wrist or Armageddon is fair game

This entire argument about FFP being unfair and the ability to pour money as and when you see fit without the need for making sure the whole thing is sustainable is the only way most small clubs can compete is frankly laughable. This is specially true in the PL. I mean, if that is the way you really want to go then I can definitely see why all the big clubs would want to go with the approach of a super league. I mean, why shouldn't they. They bring in most of the revenue into the league and most of the viewership. Unlike plastic clubs that don't even have the fan base to fill up their own stadium. All this while an oil state pours money into an irrelevant club to try and sport wash their own regime. You know what would be sustainable instead ? Build your own fan base, have a longer term planning backed by sound owners or fan ownership and go on to achieve success. Multiple clubs have done this in the past couple of decades so it isnt as if its not possible to do. It is more sustainable and just as likely as state or billionaire propped clubs. All the while revenue is shared pretty much evenly across the league for tv rights etc. as is the norm in the PL.

Any of you genuinely believe they'll be relegated or titles stripped off? Thats not happening in a million years.

I would be happy with a points deduction tbh cause to get even that little victory would be a massive achievement. Its not just unlimited money but the political power behind City is incredible.

We are taking about an actual oil state here.

Yeah that’s what I mean by anyone. Small points deduction or kicked out of the football league - it’s all bollocks

Relegation/Expulsion is literally one of the possible outcomes available.

But there were ways to deal with that didn’t involve banning situations like City and Chelsea. It’s so clearly disingenuous to frame this as somehow the only way to stop small clubs going bust. I’m amazed you think Man Utd did anything other than try to guarantee their position at the top of the tree.

Yeah United forced everyone in Europe and the PL to accept FFP.

There's been some spectacular nonsense posted in this thread.

Why? City bring no attention to the PL. Only reason they won't be kicked out if Mansour kicks some cash to the "right" figures.

That was my entire point mate

A Club who’s owners are worth £23 billion aren’t going to have their Club kicked out of the EPL.

Money talks, all this what aboutary is cringe.

They’ll have some sanctions imposed of course and difficulties coming their way the likes we probably haven’t seen before in EPL history, but they aren’t getting kicked out, that just ain’t happening.

I remember reading a piece from Martin Samuel that it meant no more dreamers like Jack Walker but hatchet jobs like what The Venkys did to the same club was/is still perfectly possible.

There's no chance a local lad done good like Jack Walker could compete with Gulf state backed teams like City.

Are you for real ?
City are cheats. They have been cheating for years. Rules are there for a reason. The FA has leveled over 100 charges at them . The most egregious of which is that they lied systematically to the FA for 10 years!
City signed up to FFP, they agreed to it and they they set about breaching it as often as possible .
There has to be punishment to fit the crime. Your guess is as good as mine as to what that will be but it will be massive.

No one really cares about this arbitrary hierarchy you've decided in your head. There are rules to competitions they enter in, rules they are presumed to have violated for years and years, and which enabled them to create a position of dominance to the detriment of their competitors, a position they most likely should not be in had they followed the rules. So yeah, if they are found guilty, there is no reason why the book shouldn't be thrown at them.

The discussion wasnt about whether they broke the rules, it was about the likely punishment.

Given the rules dont specify which punishments should be given for specific infringements and the scale of the punishments clearly vary in severity- its not an incredible leap to suggest that the panel will choose which punishments to apply based on how severe they think the breaches are (which can only reasonably be judged within the context of all possible breaches).

It is entirely possible the panel will decide that the number and duration of the breaches warrants the harshest punishment. But it is MY OPINION that they wont.

I fully understand that no one of inportance cares what I personally think about this subject, but its a forum. If you only want to see opinions that agree with your own, write your down in a notepad and read it to yourself.

In situations like this the sponsors would be releasing statements expressing disappointment or distancing themselves from the accused. Oh wait......same people!

Hopefully they’ll get relegated and deleted from all history so we can sing “This is how it feels to be city”

They're going down for sure... Probably just to the Championship but can't be sure.

Ultimately the premier league probably want City back after a year or two as long as they're neutered. More interesting TV games, more money.

If they've inflated revenues and understated expenses, then they might actually be due a tax refund...

It’s only nonsense because you’ve argued against something that I haven’t actually said.

I predict expulsion would be the initial decision and on appeal PL will settle with points deduction, fine and a transfer ban.

City will be relegated for sure, probably fined also. The commission is a farce... Even Pannick won't get them off.

If they're accepted in to the EFL, I guess they'll bounce back up pretty quickly though.

Similar to the Serie A clubs in 2006 Calciopoli.

Which of their stars will want to play in the championship? It may not be a automatic promotion. They need to sign new stars & manager by then too.... All under a watchful eye and budgetary restrictions?

Really?

The champions of the most watched league in the world bring no attention to said league?

Then why can they still not bring in the commercial revenue that would allow them to spend within FFP regulations? The Premier League will be just fine, especially if Pep ends up at Chelsea

That remains to be seen, I don't know the details of City's finances. And allegations cover their earlier days, which makes sense, they needed injections to get to the top in an "artificial" manner. Why on earth would they have issues bringing in commercial revenue now?

The PL will be fine regardless of the outcome for sure.
