City and Financial Doping | Charged by PL with numerous FFP breaches | Hearing begins 16th September 2024

Upset and angry, but I probably will never be able to walk away no. Hard to predict my mental state of mind if it happens though.

Nor should you but this should be what City fans see as a chance to get the club back, don't get me wrong it was fun winding people up on here for the past 8 years or whatever. But this is the time for real change, hopefully then the government don't swallow what the PL are doing by offering City up to avoid a regulator and others follow suit.

City will still go on even if we have to do a Rangers, but hopefully it changes our ownership and leads to widescale looks into all clubs and the league itself. Its a great chance to deal with Cities owners and clean the league completely.

That’s not quite true. The big clubs influenced FFP in order to make it impossible for them to be matched financially. By all means have a go at City but let’s be honest about the big clubs motives here.

I have never understood this argument - consider an alternative reality in which there were no FFP rules...how is it BETTER for smaller clubs/mid-sized clubs if teams like Newcastle and Manchester City can spend with no restrictions?

True fans will support their team/club whatever circumstances they find themselves IMO
Any reasonable fan somewhat capable of critical thinking should be welcoming of the investigation, as it might be the only chance they have at getting rid of their owners. This might be the one time they have a genuine chance at ending the abuse of their club as a vehicle for sportswashing.

While it’s delectable (and fascinating) to study the details of this story, we better not forget the negative impact this had on our club, our fans. Jose finishing second (well, winning really) the league was a remarkable achievement. Fair play to players and staff of that time. Without the UAE in the Prem, things could have been so different. Hey, you can’t say they would have been perfect. We might not have ETH. Through gritted teeth, I’ll say there have been positives. Decent football is the standard now. Played to feet: possession and control not hoof ball is not entirely down to Pep. But he has contributed mightily.

It’s not, and I’m not trying to say it is! I’m saying FFP loaded the dice in favour of the already-big clubs. The one avenue that was open to a smaller/medium club (getting external investment) was closed, leading to the same few clubs being top of the tree in perpetuity.

It surely also is a opportunity to clear the clubs name as well, no?

They essentially bribed their way out of the UEFA ruling too iirc. Or something in the ruling meant they got off free when really they shouldn't have.

Basically, there was a time limit on the investigation and City's lawyers managed to stall and delay and obstruct for long enough that the case had to be dismissed due to the statute of limitations. City of course proclaimed themselves exhonerated, but reality is that they were proven guilty but got off on a technicality after obstructing the investigation for so long that it had to be dropped. It was some real Trump shit.

15 years of corruption and they didnt win the Champions League. fecking amazing really.

They could still win it this year and I don’t think there would be any way it could be taken away from them.

But that would happen without FFP? And it’s not even true, the top of the league has been fluid for a long time. It’s just the cheaters who are the constant champions ironically

But there were ways to deal with that didn’t involve banning situations like City and Chelsea. It’s so clearly disingenuous to frame this as somehow the only way to stop small clubs going bust. I’m amazed you think Man Utd did anything other than try to guarantee their position at the top of the tree.
Do you genuinely believe Manchester United are part of the reason FFP was introduced, like some kind of conspiracy?

Kaveh from Sky is saying from the sense he's getting a small points deduction seems most likely if found guilty. Madness.

I can't help but wonder if you guys ever think how clubs outside the EPL look at all of this? Sure, demote and fine City but at the same time clubs from smaller leagues wonder why this all of a sudden is unfair while for years championship clubs got 200 million for just being promoted to the EPL. The Champion's league hasn't been an actual league of champions because the EPL and 3 other leagues get four tickets while the champions of other leagues sometimes have to play three play off rounds. It's been about money way too long. Maybe instead of going after City we should go after UEFA and FIFA even more.
That's exactly why I couldn't get on board with the ESL outrage despite not wanting it. We're in two in all but name.

The hilarious thing is Uefa slipped in ESL esque changes to their format while the world were too distracted with the ESL news, i was almost impressed.

Good job he’s a clown. How the feck anyone has any idea what punishment is on the table here is madness.
Plus Mbappe could be in the menu

They could also all shit their pants and rocket to the moon. Wouldnt change the last 15 years of fraud leading to not even winning 3 in a row and allowing Leicester, Chelsea, Man United and Liverpool to win the league on their watch.

It’s teams like Bayern and recently Juventus; old money clubs.

And I don’t think City’s current dominance is any worse than Utd’s was in the 1990s/2000s

I remember reading a piece from Martin Samuel that it meant no more dreamers like Jack Walker but hatchet jobs like what The Venkys did to the same club was/is still perfectly possible.

Disband PSG, relegate City, United gets bought out. And we can all go back to 2008 again.

Doubtful in my opinion. All depends on how many of the charges they are found guilty of and the particulars.

There’s 100 charges at least. Juventus got found guilty of 1 breach and were docked 15 points and (I think) a transfer ban.

That gives some context.

Their spin machine still hasn’t kicked in. If they decide to stick, it will be massive. But they are still royally fecked.

Cause its not, but Uniteds wasn't achieved through dodgy books.

I agree with you 100% on ffp it was certainly shaped to keep the top clubs at the top, but we knew the rules and agreed to them. We could have easily fought ffp in court early days but instead thought "we're already through the door, feck everyone else" and then cut what looks like a very dodgy deal with Uefa in 2014.

2 points deducted this season, having seen them finish 3 points off 1st and 5 points clear of 3rd.

Fitting punishment for a decade of cheating.

You're probably one of those people who can't understand why the Glazers aren't seen as superb owners aren't you.

City will hire some of the best lawyers money can buy. And they will again get away with everything. Money talks, and my view is that City are above the law, understood in the sense that they have the money and the lack of morals to be able to cast doubt on their guilt. Exactly as it happened when they were banned from CL but appealed and got away with a fine

Guilty until proven innocent.

I hope the PL has deep pockets if we win this case, the brand damage is huge.

It’s a lot worse. It’s not earned. They literally just sent the best left back in the world to Bayern because he was unhappy for about two weeks after going out and buying the best number 9 in world football who’s wages reportedly come to 1m a week all in.
Plus Roman Abramovich was one of the highest supporters of FFP, I wouldt go thinking it me just historically big clubs here
When were we ever the biggest spenders in the league by the way?
