Christiano Ronaldo - NO current rumors

The only way this will happen is if we benefit from it financially, which we obviously will. but do we want a player on our books knowing he is mainly there for marketing reasons or because he will help us to win titles?

Let’s be honest, he may be just having a bad spell but he is also in the decline like any player would be at his age. That’s life. In 2 years time he most likely won’t be half the player he was in his prime, then we are burdened with playing him week in week out plus huge wages even though he isn’t good enough, ala Rooney.

Ronaldo left our club as he was coming into his prime, now he is in the decline he ‘wants to come back’. That is disrespectful in my opinion, the club which made him who he is will get the shitty end of the stick again. No thankyou.
All a load of bullshit anyway, happens every year!

Everyone seems negative and/or pessimistic about this but I can absolutely see this happening:

- He seems to want out
--- tax problems
--- lack of love
--- Real are dropping to Barcelona which effects his personal status against Messi
- He's still a brand marketing dream (for Woodie)
- We can afford him
- We're about to break our wage ceiling with Sanchez anyway
- Mourinho is a short term thinker
--- and has set Martial the challenge of consistency
--- the benchmark will then become: 'be better than Ronaldo'
- The 7 shirt has been given to Sanchez
--- ala "You're welcome back but we're denting your ego - you're not number 1, you're a cog in a team"
- PSG are shelling out £170m for Mbappe this summer
- Madrid are going on a shopping spree

Personally I don't see many options for him that (a) keeps him in a mega salary bracket (b) keeps him in Europe and (c) plays to a narrative that feeds his ego.

Mourinho is a winner, he just wants the best XI..

I know Ronnie is past his peak, but imagine if we could get him relatively cheap and then went all out on Dybala too.. I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility - we need to get back in the big time, Mourinho knows it and hence put pressure on the board and we're about to get Sanchez on the cheap - we're not out of money, far from it:

First XI

--Ronaldo-----Dybala-----Sanchez--
----------------------------------------
-----------Pogba-----Herrera---------
------------------Matic-----------------

Young XI

--Martial-----Lukaku----Rashford--
---------------------------------------
---------Lingard----Perriera---------
----------------Mensah---------------

Back 4 still needs a bit of work but who'd care if we were lining up like that!

Ronnie and Sanchez could be our Ribery and Robben but with more fluidity and position swapping

Bit too muppet there... IF we got Ronaldo, Real Madrid would go whole hog on getting Dybala, and they'd get him most likely, as Spain is where Dybala wants to go.

The only way he would've returned was if Fergie was still manager imo. Imagine if Fergie hadn't retired in after 13/14 and gotten him then.

I'd rather have Lukaku than Dybala, but I agree on Ronaldo. I would welcome him.

There's not too many clubs in the world that can afford Ronaldo these days, and I would think that he would only join a club in Europe that could still challenge for top honours. I think he only goes to a club that can give him their number 7 shirt, because marketing and brands. For those reasons, I could see him going to China or the USA over anywhere in Europe.

Or, y'know, stay at Real where they love him and will pay him whatever he wants.

I was hugely against it this summer when he was 32 and immensely expensive. Now he is going to be 33 in a month and still wildly expensive. Forget about it - it would only lead to tears. On a free, sure sure, but not for 60M with huge wages on top. We have nothing to gain from this.

I don't want him to ruin his legacy here, so don't want him to come back.

But if he did, anything under £50m would be good business, United would make that back in shirt sales within weeks.

We should steer well clear at this stage. He wants to move because Messi just got a new contract and he's now the third highest paid player in the world behind Neymar and Messi. If we want to seriously compete on all fronts and not become the Ronaldo-globe-trotters we should let Madrid keep him. He's their problem now and they deserve it.

Imagine if we sign him and then have to tell him he can't get the no 7 shirt.

To old for the price Madrid would want for him so i don't want him here. On the cheap i wouldn't say no.

Ronaldo can feck off, that ship has hopefully sailed a long ass time ago.
Hope we aint the suckers to pay big money for him and pay him big wages.
We should invest money on younger players in positions that we need imo,not wasting it on former over the hill players.

Now that Sanchez has signed, the Ronaldo and Bale rumors will hopefully die out quickly.

Bring back our prodigal son!

prodigal: "a person who spends money in a recklessly extravagant way."
prodigal son:"a person who leaves home to lead a prodigal life but later makes a repentant return."

bang on

No white text?

Here here. White text as well!

Losing his form a bit, way too expensive, and unless he was given a free role behind Lukaku, which of our expensive front 3 would make way?
Also a very real risk that he ruins the incredible memories of him first time round.

However...if he did come back it'd still be amazing, but for the first time I'd prefer not.

Best bet is he has one more season at Madrid, puts that goal record to an even sillier, permanently unbreakable level, and then can have 1-2 years swanning around for insane money in USA, China, wherever the top money is in 2 years.

All he cares about is his competition with Messi in the money stakes. Sorry to say but we are not biting this time.

*sigh* Not the shirt sales myth again?

One year ago, I would have him back at a heartbeat, I would not care if we spent 200m. The fact now that I am thinking about it, shows the progress we make as a team. Good job Jose.

However, that presentation video of the return of CR would be muppetastic

It'd have to be United Road as the song right?

Let's bring this guy who spent the best of his years elsewhere winning absolutely everything and let him spend his retirement at the same position as Martial who's beginning to hit some form for us. Makes perfect sense!!

Unless any of our marketing agreements end while Ronaldo is back with us, would we really benefit that much financially? I guess if end up with his image rights it would help some. Things like our kit sponsorships are pretty set for a few more seasons.

Even when Ronaldo was here, the whole team had to play for him. I can’t see Mourinho ever allowing it for Ronaldo at this stage. Even on a free, I wouldn’t touch him - he will feck up our team balance.

We definitely shouldn't get him back for footballing reasons. I hope none of the big clubs sign him and give Madrid funds to go out and buy again.
