Christiano Ronaldo - NO current rumors

Rather than building our own team for the "future", some seem so eager to increase Madrid's budget for their "future" plans.

Big clubs don't buy back their run away stars who kept using their names for "contract renewal purposes" for years, specially when these stars' performances start to Go down.

He gave his best years to Madrid, in other words , We are not Thier Everton !

Do not want. Buy good players and sell the average ones. Don't buy the average ones.

We already have goalscorers, we need players who can play football.

There are pros and cons to re-signing Ronaldo. It would a risk but one that could be fruitful. It really depends on his attitude. As long as it don't involve De Gea...it would REALLY strengthen our forward line and even if he's not 100% - defenses will still be weary. I think threat from distance is something we can always be better at. Having said that, we have Zlatan and even if he don't return to form - we could go for someone ready to make the step up. So we've options BUT the good thing for us is that, Sanchez alone has given everyone more optimism. He will improve the lads around him even more and if Zlatan comes back strong then suddenly we've options again. We haven't been aggressive enough in the market - even if we've done well. There are players we could have got who would give us something but the squad is shaping up nicely. Obviously, we're looking midfielder and maybe full back in the summer but players won't look at Ronaldos age. Defenders won't either. The years he's given to Madrid don't really matter. The player left because he hated the weather. If he was willing to come back knowing full well what the weather was like.....then I think that would moot the fact he left United too soon probably. I think he would have shown that he's maybe a bit more grown up and if he did sign and helped us reclaim the title from City, then who would care about how old he was? People moaned about Pogbas price etc - now no one cares because they get it. They see how he fits in. I would love him to return because he has time on his side to create new memories and I think he would do in this team. In addition to anything else, he wouldn't be the focal point so much. We do have talent in the squad that needs more role models. We could challenge Madrid say for a Neymar but I think if Ronaldo was happy to come back, it would be a confirmation and a recognition that slowly but surely we are finding our feet again. It was a non brainer when he was here that he would win us a champions league and I think he would inspire us to challenge City NOW. We would challenge with others perhaps - and maybe we will go another route...but seeing Ronaldo in a United shirt again would be a pleasure. Players like Sanchez, Ronaldo - perhaps even Ozil (who knows) etc...excite players and supporters and give them the confidence to play. They also scare teams in that they are in two minds whether to attack bravely or sit back and play on the counter. Exciting times. A lot rests on Zlatans shoulders. What will happen with Zlatan. If he retired I'd like to see him coaching here and then resign Ronaldo. We need big personality at a time when so many of our team are young with temptations all around them.

Only 17 players have scored more goals than he has in La Liga. Bale who has pretty much missed half the season, probably more, has the same number of goals as him. Why in the world would anyone want him? He's regressing, the fact that his game relies on physicality and the PL is significantly more physical than the Spanish league doesn't fill you with any confidence at all

still 18 in 25 games so far and counting.

We should try and sign the player that Madrid would want to replace Ronaldo.

Zlatan is leaving after this season, 100%.

I would love it if Woodward came out and said we were not looking to sign Ronaldo, that it would have been fantastic a few years ago but that ship has sailed. Rule it out, nip it in the bud once and for all so he / his agent can stop playing these games and we can move on. Because this is beyond tedious.

It’s already been ruled out

1) Sanchez signing AKA #7 is taken
2) José just addressed it in the Yeovil presser saying, “only Zidane and Madrid can have Cristiano”

...common sense prevails but there’ll always be those who keep creating their own speculation and pipe dreams..

If anything, this.

United aren’t Madrid’s bitch anymore. Why people want their over the hill, used up has been players is beyond me. Not to mention for what would be ridiculous fees. Bale, Ronaldo, whoever else...you feck off now Madrid

A thousand times, this. Let PSG be the repository for Real Madrid's sloppy seconds if they want rid.

I don’t think either of those two rule it out at all, not the concrete level you seem to suggest. One is a shirt number and two is simply what you say about a player at another club.

I dont think what Mourinho said rules it out at all. I think the shirt number is probably a fairly significant issue though. It sounds ridiculous but I think the CR7 brand is such that it could be a deal breaker for Ronaldo.

But even that doesnt exactly rule it out. What would rule it out to my satisfaction would be Woodward saying explicitly that we wouldnt have any interest in doing it.

If you had to pick one - would you rather we got Bale or Ronaldo?

The second one is basically what he said about Sanchez and Arsenal. lol.

Definitely Ronaldo, Bales injury prone and to be honest, apart from when Moyes tried bringing him in, I never wanted Bale from Real Madrid.
But then again Ronaldo is LW, LF, something like that, what would happen to Martial. If Mou replaces anyone with Martial, I don't care if it's Messi, I wouldn't be happy.

Attack I would have with Ronaldo:
-----------Lukaku------------
Martial---Ronaldo---Sanchez

-----------Lukaku------------
Ronaldo--Lingard---Sanchez
- Or Sanchez goes behind Lukaku and we get a RW (lol Bale). Don't like this option though, because of Martial. Ronny can't play on the left if we get him.

Attack I would have with Bale:
-----------Lukaku------------
Martial---Sanchez-------Bale

The two green front fours I would have, but would Ronaldo play behind Lukaku? It's difficult. If we could fit Martial and Sanchez into a team with Ronaldo then I'd take him. The team with Bale in it could work, but I just don't want him.

Ronaldo easily but I don't want either of them. The baggage they bring (fee, wages, building the team around them, sacrificing Martial) is too much in my opinion.

The thing is, if you just look at statistics, which A LOT of people on here seem to be doing, you'd think it's a worthwhile proposition. But the eye test always tells you more than statistics ever could, and the eye test screams to me to stay away from CR7. He's just not the player he once was, he is much slower, he's hardly capable of getting past defenders, he is shoot-on-sight with a less than 5% conversion rate (throwing a little stat for the stat lovers), he's just an absolute black hole on offense that sucks up any creativity to get to score a goal.

He's just falling off the cliff that every single great player in every sport has fallen off of at one time or another in their careers, he's not even in mid-fall, he just started falling off the cliff last season until he went on a crazy run, maybe he has another small peak coming up against PSG or others, but those peaks will be short-lived and far and fewer in between. It would be absolutely detrimental to the team to get him back here, it would not be a positive in the least. I guarantee it'd be a huge regret to bring him back. He's had his time here, he's made his impact, and I think it would be wise to let him go, even if he was within reach.

If the fee was quite nominal - £30-40m it would be fun.

A new challenge could give him a second wind.

Gave an interview in China were he said he wants to stay. Close the thread :D

People who said he’s finished, have you changed your stance?
Just curious, how many of the “no” brigade would still say that? How many have changed their mind about him being finished?

ONLY a question, there is NO NEW RUMOUR

I'd still stay no. Id rather wait how ever long for a Ronaldo type player who actually wants to play for us.

What like 40 years? Best is proably the most talented player that ever played for us and he never even reached the heights Ronaldo has.

If I were an oppo fan, I’d mock this forum for bumping this and all the other Ronaldo threads when he has a world class performance. We need to move on. He’s gone, y’all. He’s been gone.

Yes please come back. Thought he was done but clearly not. Think he just saves it for the business end of the season. He’s have single handedly beaten Sevilla for us as a start.

Oh well. Id rather do without. He doesn't want to play here

I agree to extent. Not so much that doesn't want to play for Manchester United. It's more the fact he doesn't want to live in England.

Think one of the Spanish experts said that if Man Utd were based in a warmer climate he'd move back tomorrow.

I did think he was on the decline but he has clearly proved that idea wrong. Having said that I still don't want him back. I would rather be a destination for players at or approaching their peak rather than great players whose future is about coming down from their peak.

True, but he would still be by far our best player

Thing is it seems like he needs plenty going around for him to get to top form which we don't seem like a team to be able to provide that platform.

I meant it seems like he became slow(er) starter each passed season. Even Madrid suffered in La Liga this season, when the whole team ain't performing and Ronaldo was still in warming up stage. Imagine us with Ronaldo doing the same while we struggle more with creativity.

I was just curious since so many people thought he was finished
