Christiano Ronaldo - NO current rumors

If he genuinely wants a proper footballing challenge, he needs to be willing to take a short contract and a big pay cut.

Right now, on present form alone, Martial, Pogba, and Sanchez are better players than he is.
oooooh. You're in for it now - there'll be swarms of ronaldo fans after you.

He's having an off season, so is the team, but he's still banging in goals, just not at the mega rate he was at. Actually the stats are quite telling.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cristiano_Ronaldo#Club look at the goals per season column.
If he doubles his goals, it'll be the second year in a row there was a decline. To put it into perspective though, he'd still have like 40 goals i reckon. Mind you i think he's still goo for 20-30 a season for the next couple of years.

For me though, it's a no.

Agreed. A much lower base wage. Could make a pile of cash with an image rights deal and bonuses.

I would just love it if Real could not sell him anywhere. And no top players want to go there realizing that Ronaldo is still their main man. I doubt the likes of Neymar, Hazard want to go there with Ronaldo still at the helm. Only Kane might be interested to go there since he can play at center forward and bring him in play.

But , once Ronaldo is actually available, I see clubs going for his signing because of his emmense commercial pull. I see he could move to PSG where there can easily win their domestic competition and there is less pressure to perform week in week out. ROnaldo will still bang in loads of goals. 200M+ Ronaldo for Neymar!!!

Kane is worth double of Ronaldo.

He's 25 in the summer. He's worth more than twice what Ronnie is worth.
Even if we had the money to compete for him, I just don't see him leaving Spurs for a Prem rival.

If it's about commercial pull it makes 0 sense swapping Ney for Ronaldo, they're not in PSG to make money, their main goal is putting PSG (Qatar) name in world media by winning or reaching a UCL final before their 2022 World Cup, they don't need to offload wages, to get 200M or Ronaldo in order to win the French league, and Neymar is the best weapon to conquer a UCL title in the next 4 years.

The grand scheme of things for those guys is having a Qatar fueled team conquering the UCL (broadcasted by beIN) to create hype around their product with a climax in the 2022 World Cup, Ronaldo would've been an important part of that had he joined PSG 4 or 3 years ago like it was rumoured in their race to stir hype, now he's not that important to them, probably not even Messi would be considered a better investment than Neymar going forward.

At this point, Neymar is a better investment in pitch and off the pitch combined. But if Neymar starts to throw tantrums, constantly complaining and indeed shows desire to play for Madrid, then PSG might have to think, even though they hardly care about their money.

Because of FFP regulations, they might want to settle for Ronaldo if the situation arises that they have to choose between Ronaldo and Neymar, provided Neymar desperately want to move.

I don't think Ronaldo and Neymar are comparable in terms of viability at this point. Neymar is in the middle of his peak career years where Ronnie is winding down.

Only way he goes to PSG next season for Neymar is if his dad goes to Al Khalifi and threatens to wind down his contract, essentially guaranteeing that Neymar leaves for free in 4 years. Would that compel PSG to sell and get a diminished Ronaldo who still has massive global market appeal and could perhaps return to goal scoring prowess in the weaker Ligue 1?

And even that move may not work simply because PSG don't get intimidated by player threats (Verratti last summer).

I dont think either. Thats why i said just in case Neymar pushes to move to Madrid, otherwise PSG will happily have Neymar.

Anyways, if rationality resumes in the market, and Madrid could not move anyone from their books, it would be a delighting sight !

No thanks.

I'd rather we not become a graveyard for the games elite players who's best days are years behind them. Schweinsteiger was bad enough.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’d take him as Zlatans replacement in the squad IF his wages weren’t astronomical. The experience he could bring is huge

How many years left on his current contract? I can't see any team going out of their way to spend mega bux on him. That said even when he's a bosman his signing on fee will be ridiculous. Major swerve on this one.

If he came for less than £200 grand a week would be worth it, but of course he wouldnt, and, hes majorly in decline for what he was a couple of seasons ago, and only getting worse. He wouldnt score the amount of goals he did over there in the premier anyway. We would also end up shelling out a fortune to agents as well as Madrid. On all that its a no from me.

I doubt he is doing this for a new contract because he ain't getting one. He has looked pissed off ever since the tax case played out badly for him in the court and he didn't feel good about Madrid not backing him like Messi was backed by Barca.

Think he will leave for Paris in the summer.

I think he still has two high level seasons in him but right now he badly needs a break. He's jaded both physically and mentally with non stop football but unfortunately the world cup is coming so it'll be stretching him beyond the limit.

It won't surprise me if Portugal exit very early.

Bring on the CR7 army!

He’s still going to score more goals than pretty much most other players, but he is the entire focus of Real Madrid and is such a volume shooter that it’s bound to happen. He’s the Kobe Bryant of football as far as shots taken and is conversion rate is not bad, it’s abysmal.

So I don’t necessarily say he’s worse than the players I mentioned in stats, but in efficiency and impact without being a detriment to the team, I stand by what i said.

Pretty sure it was dead as soon as we handed out the 7 shirt (and rightfully so).

Well it wouldn't shock me if in the case of Ronaldo signing for us the club would make Alexis give up the shirt. Hopefully not, but who knows

They will seek to finance their summer transfer spree by selling their old big three Roanldo, Benzema and probably Bale.

The smart thing would be instead of financing their future galacticos we should hijack those deals. At least Kane.

So goodbye Lukaku after one season at the club? Harsh.

But if he's not good enough, get rid. He's young with a strong back and a lifetime's fortune already. Besides, the shorter he's been here the less sentiment there needs to be.

I would be shocked if anyone paid a fee for him considering his wages.

I honestly can’t see how they could get rid off him.

You’re being ridiculous. Lukaku is a top player and has done well for us. Sanchez will only make him better.

Not saying he's not a good player, the jury is still out on Lukaku. I'm disputing whether it would be harsh to get rid of a player after a single seaon if he's not going to cut it. I think not at all. Shed any tears yet over Mkhi?

Lukaku has been much better than Mkhitaryan at United.

Yeah it’s basically only us, City, PSG and Barca that could afford his wages. He won’t go to Barca or City. Madrid don’t exactly have a lot of bargaining power. They’ll soon realise demanding a big fee for him is futile when no one bites. Everyone knows he’s only going downhill from here.

Aye, but his downhill still makes him better than 99% of footballers on the planet. the man has had some issues in front of goal, but if his team clicks and he clicks with it, he'll be in the top scorers in la liga before march and the narrative will be how he was just preparing his body for the latter stages of the season. One of the world's most popular people going back to the world's most popular sports teams is guaranteed no lose situation financially. i'd take a 34 year old goal-poaching ronaldo over almost every striker in the world bar a select few.

I think if he wanted to go to a particular club that he would somehow restructure his wages to make it feasible. He's already worth about $400m so the wages at this late stage in his career may take a back seat in order for him to facilitate a move to a preferred destination.

Mikhi has had very little impact, Lukaku had a great start, went through a rough patch, but is contributing in many ways besides just scoring. It would be silly to get rid of him after just one season. Let's wait and see how Alexis changes the dynamic for the rest of the team.

Precisely, team is crying out for someone transformational in attack. Could liberate some bottled up talents.

He should go back to Sporting and end his career where it started
Let's say he came for a comparatively nominal fee on well crafted wages as a pure goalscorer, you wouldn't want him for 2 years?

Let's forget this once and for all, the number 7 shirt has gone and belongs to Sanchez.

Ronaldo if he's lucky will go to Paris at best!

Ronaldo has worn 9 before. It won’t be an issue. Besides squad numbers mean feck all lol. Ibra took the 9 when Martial had it. Valencia only had 7 for one season, etc.

Sanchez having the 7 doesn’t confirm that Ronaldo isn’t coming.

hopefully it does, we arent retirement club for him to collect his last massive paycheck
hopefully we aren't stupid enough to solve madrid problem either

he should go to china

He's always averaged around a goal per game for Madrid, and despite his poor La Liga return so far this season, 18 from 25 in all competitions isn't exactly terrible. Last season was 42 from 46, so while he scored 6 fewer than the season before that, he also played 6 games less.

Agree with your last sentence though. He's too expensive and potentially destabilising.
