Christian Benteke | BBC: Liverpool Agree £32.5m Fee

He is a good player so seeing him sign for Liverpool isn't agreeable,, but 32m for a player who doesn't score more goals than Rooney isn't a good deal for us.

Since he arrived in England, only Suarez, RvP and Aguero have scored more than him in the league.

He's not a Striker though & we've enough of his ilk already. Muller would be an amazing unrealistic signing though.

Lacazette is probably the most realistic target left now tbh, but the money involved is gonna be around £30-35m, or approximately same money as it would cost to get Benteke..

Unless I'm mistaken, he played more games as a centre forward last season than anywhere else. He can play on the wing too, but he is certainly also capable of playing as a striker.

Because he scored half of his goals in his first season with 24 goals, I rate him but for United 32m is too much, for Liverpool it's good gamble and you might gain a very good player.

You are right, he played upfront with La Real and last season he played most of his games next to Mandzukic and scored 20 something goals.

A front three of ADM, Rooney and Depay/(Mata) is preferable to anything they have in my opinion - plus our midfield absolutely destroys theirs.
It is? Mata and Rooney are better than anything they have. A Di Maria playing anything near his best, too.

Obviously I was saying it in jest, but a front 4 of Sturridge/Benkete/Coutino/Firmino does look potentially very tasty.

While we don't even know what our attack will be next season. Will Di Maria stay? Will be buy another striker? Will Memphis be able to settle quickly in a big league?

Even if ADM goes and Depay doesnt settle, our attack is still far better than theirs.

How'd you work that one out? That leave our attack with Young and Januzaj as first choice.

People who are jealous of Liverpool signing Benteke for £32.5m have to convert that sum to euros and think about what they could get for that money. It is €46.52m. Read that again... fecking 46.52 milion euros.

To much money for a good but not great striker.

I was talking to one of my Liverpool supporting mates at the end of the season when it was a banker that Liverpool would go for Milner and Benteke. I said that Milner on a free is good business and Benteke for around €20m to €25m would be good business. But feck me, that figure is ridiculous, he's worth nothing close to that. I rate him but he's not an elite player and that price is ridiculous.

A lot of moolah, but the dippers have got money to burn now. I think he'll do well there. I assume Balotelli is on his way out now?

I'm shocked how many people are disappointed that we didn't get him. You wanted Benteke? At United? What?!

To be fair, the list of players who could do a job up front for us while also being ok with being benched a lot for Rooney is rather small.
I guess, but there are players out there who would probably be happy doing that to begin with, have enough potential to challenge Rooney for that place, and would fit our playing style a hell of a lot better than Benteke - Lacazette for example would be perfect. Not saying Benteke is an awful player, just that he doesn't really fit what we're trying to do, and at that price we can go for someone much more promising.

Good signing for Liverpool. Expensive but he's a good player. They have done very well this summer. Could see them squeeze into the top 4.

32M is too much for him, but I don't think Liverpool can get attract strikers than him. He will be a good signing, he's a good player.

The circle of Liverpool continues - great striker leaves, replaced with a striker of opposite skillset and usually bigger physical frame who is of current-trend hype that doesn't materialise.

OUT: Michael Owen
IN: Djibril Cisse & Fernando Morientes & Peter Crouch

OUT: Fernando Torres
IN: Andy Carroll (& Luis Suarez)

OUT: Luis Suarez
IN: Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert, Danny Ings, Christian Benteke?

The circle continues.

I'd love someone like Lacazette, but the issue is we're not going to fork out £35m+ for a player not to be first choice. We basically need our equivalent of Remy at Chelsea; may never be good enough to be first choice but is a solid all-rounder and can come into the side and do a job without massively reducing the effectiveness of our attack.

There's always Charlie Austin :lol::nervous:

£32.5m is a bit too much but I think he'll do very well there if he consistently gets the right services. Better than Balotelli and Lambert at least. But I'm hoping he's another Andy Carroll as he seems like someone who feeds on long balls more often than not.

Very good signing even if the fee is on the high side. Pool are doing well this window.

Clyne, Ings and now Benteke

Liverpool sign all the players we are linked with that I would hate for us to buy.

They might be able to finish ahead of Spurs this season now

Never seen that lad play to be fair.

Liverpools attacking is actually starting to look better then ours :nervous:

I think it is best if you take a seat,
Let me leave the room and call the police.
You're not acting right, I don't think you're well,
You might be insane, need a padded cell.

 Exactly what I was thinking.

I'm not sure what you're smoking mate! Who would they push out of the top 4? We look much stronger and then there's Arsenal, Chelsea and City. They won't be near the top 4.

I think it's a decent signing for them, £32.5m is a lot of money however. I think Liverpool are maintaining their level, not exceeding, they've spent so much on attacking players but I still feel their defence and midfield aren't particularly strong. I don't think their squad is strong enough to challenge for the top 4 unless one of their players has a great season, or maybe Rodgers picks up the dressing room again. This maybe is Rodgers last chance and if the new players don't gel, or one player doesn't take the initiative, then I can't see him staying or Liverpool threatening for a champions league spot.

Doubt they care. Too much money or not, they need a striker who can score again. Suarez buggered off, Sturridge is made of biscuit, Balotelli looks about as interested as a blind lesbian watching Magic Mike and Lambert's gonna Lambert. In Benteke they have someone who combines a fair few of those players best attributes. Can hold it up, is pacy, can finish. Is it too much? Yes. Is it hilarious? Yes. Is he good enough to be first choice here? No. But he's an upgrade on what they have, and that's all they'll care about.

People can laugh, but they're front 4 could be great if it clicks.

Like I said, its just good that they're midfield and defence is shite.
