Shame, I would've liked him here. 24/25, ridiculously strong, quick and a consistent goalscorer, not just a one season wonder.

What other striker can we realistically get now?

He's really not a consistent goal scorer at all. Last season he only scored 2 goals in the first 20 odd games of the season, and the season before that he went for a period of 4 months without scoring a single goal. His ridiculous output in the last couple of months of this season just is really skewing stats and opinions.

Didnt he have to come through an injury lay off?

I fear this will be a very good signing for them unfortunately. Should score plenty of goals with Coutinho and Firmino behind him.

You've just listed some strikers. Llorente is the only one that realistically been linked with a transfer unless I've missed something?

I don't understand, what do you want exactly?

Playing after a serious injury in a Paul Lambert team - Even RVN or Suarez would struggle to score

I hope this deal goes through for us.

Which means? All the players mentioned will be sold for an affordable fee, at least their clubs will listen to offers.

I think he's an even worse signing for Liverpool than he would have been for us. What's the point of having Firminho, Lallana and Coutinho with all of their intricate passing and movement if you've got a carthorse like Benteke slowing everything down? Makes even less sense given that they don't really cross the ball into the box.
Agreed. I'm pleased it's them and not us.

I hope it goes through for you too.

Thanks :wenger: A 1 in 2 striker with a good burst of pace who scores 6/10 goals from outside the box & is a threat from every set piece? A huge upgrade on anything we have besides a fit Sturridge.

I think he'll do well. People calling him little other than a targetman are missing the mark, in my opinion. That's how he played under Paul Lambert, but he's more to offer than that.

I think he's a good signing. I'd have him here for sure. Will be pissed off if he goes to Liverpool, I think he'll bang the goals in. Their best signing of the summer if it goes through.

He would do well at United and will do well for Liverpool.

Liverpools attacking is actually starting to look better then ours :nervous:

He is a good player so seeing him sign for Liverpool isn't agreeable,, but 32m for a player who doesn't score more goals than Rooney isn't a good deal for us.

Their attacking lineup next season...

Firmino-Coutinho-Milner
---------Benteke--------

Not bad, scousers. Not bad at all.

So we're losing out on Benteke. This transfer window gets better and better

Still far off top 4 potential.
Yep, agreed but fourth should be their aim. They could even line up like this

Firmino-Sturridge-Coutinho
----------Benteke----------

Not sure it would work but that's three very good players behind a proven goalscorer.

It is? Mata and Rooney are better than anything they have. A Di Maria playing anything near his best, too.

I said in another thread that if you're going just on last years performances, the front four of a combined United/LFC XI would probably be...

Rooney
Depay Coutinho Mata

Don't think Benteke changes that much, but ADM in form could get a spot from someone.

A front three of ADM, Rooney and Depay/(Mata) is preferable to anything they have in my opinion - plus our midfield absolutely destroys theirs.

Costa & Sanchez aside, Herrera was the best signing last summer. The guy is immense... Feck :( We need someone like that.

What about when/if Sturridge is fit?

Also Milner will play CM, he has been promised that and it's why he has left City. Probably be Lallana on the left, the 3 behind the striker are very gifted players but they are all very similar (number 10s). They need a player that is a geniunie winger, be interesting to see how Ibe develops this season.

Wonder who the Scousers would rather have

Di Maria-Mata-Depay
--------Rooney-------

Benteke is a very good player but the value is outrageous, to be honest.

City, Everton and now Liverpool buying strikers like Bony, Lukaku and Benteke for around £30 million smashes the arse out of the striker's market.

You can say that before Depay and Firmino have even kicked a ball in the English league?
Plus Di Maria has a lot to prove for the £60m price tag he wasn't that great last season.

As above Di Maria has a lot to prove and Depay/Firmino - it's far too early to say.

I think all our eggs are in the Cavani basket.

I'd love it if we could actually secure an unrealistic target (Lewandowski, Muller, Griezmann, Benzema) but its far too unlikely.

He's not a Striker though & we've enough of his ilk already. Muller would be an amazing unrealistic signing though.

Lacazette is probably the most realistic target left now tbh, but the money involved is gonna be around £30-35m, or approximately same money as it would cost to get Benteke..

Look at the service he received. At United he would be even better...

It doesn't work like that, he would have less space and he wouldn't be the focus of our attacks.

We were never in for him obviously, not our level of player. There was no interest from us, our name was used to pressure Liverpool.. all apart of the game.
