Chelsea reach agreement to sign Cesc Fábregas

No one actually knows that we aren't in for him. We might well be. People are just jumping to conclusions.

I just want the midfield sorted. As long as any other club becomes involved in the deal for a player we are after I just assume that we won't sign him, so I'm taking that approach with Fabregas as well. Just hope LVG finds a midfielder, whether in the market or at the club, that will at least make our midfield functional. That in itself will be a huge step in the right direction after the season we've had.

I think he means deals can be confirmed NOW but the player won't join until either after July 1st or after the WC if they are on national team duty.
Yes, the exact point I was making in my post but using the date (which I now know is incorrect, cheers bestie) to highlight how long clubs have to finalise deals.

No one has put a bid in yet so it's all conjecture and speculation atm. If Woodward learnt his lesson from last summer we won't be making public bids like last summer which left him and Moyes open to ridicule when all they ended up with was Felliani. There could be a lot going on behind closed doors. We have every chance.

I'm also shocked pool aren't quick on this one. They are spending a fortune trying to convince a lessor player to join them. While he is on the market for a similar price and would surely be the type of signing that would impress suarez. Chelseea's case is more understandable. They have too many no10's and mou preffers brawn over flair in midfield.

25m for Lallana, or 30m for Fabregas.

It's a mad world where Lallana even counts as being in the same sport!

It's not rocket science, it's the only narrative that fits the facts.

Which facts? The only one I can see is that he used to play for Arsenal, and that's it. You know where he's going as much as I or SolidState do.

Amazing. The managers's expressions get me every time  You need to start a twitter feed for these things.

I really don't see what problem Fabregas solves in our midfield. Imo it just creates another problem.

To be fair he is right. I think you are thinking of him as a #10. But he is not. He is a better CM than he is a #10. Hence he is the perfect solution to all our midfield problems.
I really really don't want him to Man Utd, alongside Carrick (assuming he's got another year in him) that CM would put you back top 4

No, I'm thinking of him as a creative midfielder and defensively a liability (or if not a liability then a player that needs someone else to do a great deal of that work for him).

We have a shit ton of creative players, they play further forward than Fabregas would, but what we lack is anyone with defensive sense, mobility, or ability to transition play quickly to those players.

He's another chef, we don't need more.

If we are indeed in for Cesc then I seriously doubt we'd be doing in public like last season.

We could easily look like idiots for missing out on him 2 seasons running.

If we are interested it will be all hush hush, Woodward can't keep embarrassing himself and the club.

There is that I suppose. I don't actually think we are in for him, but whoever we are going for, I hope we've now learned to keep it on the quiet. Leaking it out doesn't do us any favours.

it's one of those situations, you can't believe we wouldn't be sniffing around.

It beggars belief that we'll instead wait for Strootman, who may or may not ever be back to his top level, which probably isn't Fabregas's level.

I have to stop coming anywhere near this thread. It's upsetting. Especially the goons saying he wouldn't be worth buying.

We need at least two CMs anyway, so regardless of whether we are in for Strootman or not we should be all over Cesc.

I think we will go for him. It appears he is available at a very resonable price and there is seemingly little competition for his signature. We would be mad not to go for him.

There's no puzzlement. Dead Ed & co have rung Darren Dein and he's said Fab is coming back to Arsenal. The only issue is us trying to drive down the fee.
Are you not bored of rewording the same post over and over again?

I like you Pete, but give it a rest. It's tedious.

Are we all just a bit freaked out because off the last season and under ratting our current squad.? I know we need to replace rio and vidic or our midfield is weak - but maybe van gaal is thinking off moving Rooney to midfield or he is seeing something in Fellaini or carick and fletcher pairing. Liverpool/Everton/ even Chelsea proved last season that with a good manager even a good to average squad can over achieve.

And how good exactly was Paul Scholes defensively? Our creativity is lacking from midfield. We need a deeper lying playmaker. It is as necessary if not more necessary than having a world class #10. Pulling the strings from midfield is vital if we want to be a top side again. And this ability to transition the ball forward you are talking about, Cesc does that very well. I don't think you saw him play for Arsenal.
