Chelsea reach agreement to sign Cesc Fábregas

He changed his style of play and system dramatically this season tbf.

And it worked well - so I dont see why he'd change it again. I suspect the fact that he did is down to him having been able top bring in a few more his own players over the last two transfer windows.

I'm not saying he wouldnt want Fabregas if he had the money to spend - a lot of managers would. Doesn't mean he'd sacrifice another player, in another position to get him into an area where he is arguably already well stocked, if the original player is being brought in to filfil a specific role.

That also ignores the issues over wages as well. He may have a budget he needs to work within and bringing in one player on £120k a week might not be what he's after.

Ballbag just been talking on Sky and has reiterated what he tweeted and also mentioned United could be in the running for him. He said no agreement is with Chelsea, but that doesn't mean that they wouldn't want him, and he puts united second in the list behind Chelsea as places Fabregas would likely choose.

I find it utterly bizarre we are not in the running for him. Cant think of many better midfielders who are actually available. We sat back and let Chelsea take Matic in January when that was a mistake to most who had been watching him.

Surely moving to Chelsea would seem more as a betrayal to Arsenal than to United from Arsenal's perspective? Or has the word respect flown out of the window by now..

I've seen a few journalists on twitter saying even if United are interested, we would be keeping our interest as quiet and subtle as possible. Don't want to be seen to have missed out on him two seasons running. Especially if he actually does leave and we still miss out. Kind of makes sense and saves some face for Woody...

I think it's a good sign our new manager has a plan to rebuild us his way with the players he sees rebuilding us in his image. That's what top class managers do. I won't pass a judgement until we know which players we've signed and see them on the pitch together in a United shirt. Just watching his Holland side you can see he likes players who are capable of pressing all game and are intelligent enough to know when/how to break up the play while having the technical ability to get on the ball and find a pass. Not sure Fabregas is the sort of player Van Gaal likes.

As they shouldn't be TBH. Barcelona is trying to use PL teams to fund their transfer spree. Its counter-productive for PL to pay for Fabregas given how Barca will target players they might also want to sign.

Starting to feel a bit sorry for Francesc. Get's his dream move to Barcelona, and after 3 seasons, where he very rarely got to play in his natural position, they want to get rid of him. Now it seems no one wants him.

He played in his natural position a lot more than he didn't. Just doesn't suit the style of play and couldn't adapt to having far less freedom to do what he wants that he had at Arsenal.

Premier League teams don't work as a collective. They'll sign Fabregas if it's in their best interest to sign him and they rightly won't care what Barcelona's plans to with the money generated by his sale.

Arsenal aren't as good as Pool if last season is anything to go by. Arsenal compete for 4th while Pool mounted a title challenge. Plus they have the best player in the league and another striker who's scoring at an outrageous rate. Flexing isn't something arsenal do, I'm sure we all know that. He's been to arsenal and seen how things work there. Surely he'd be willing to try something new, at a club that seems on the up instead of a perennially stagnant one?

Anyways don't know if arsenal are interested in him. They have loads of quality players in his position, he might just find himself competing for a spot rather than running the team. Ramsey, wilshere, ozil, and cazola are the sort of competition he wouldn't need to face at pool.
Liverpool have had one season of challenging. Arsenal have been consistently better than them and lost their most influential player (Ramsey) last season for a big chunk of it. I'd like to have seen what Liverpool would have done for that long without Suarez. There's not much between them in general IMO.

Cesc Fabregas' entourage still believe that Manchester United is the Spain midfielder's most likely destination this summer, MirrorSport understands.

The former Arsenal skipper has been told by Barcelona that he can leave the club for £30million and his representatives have contacted top clubs across Europe to evaluate their interest.

And while Fabregas has received the firmest overtures from Zenit St Petersburg and Milan, the Spaniard has told clubs he is set on a move back to the Premier League.

Those closest to the Barca star have received positive overtures from the Old Trafford outfit, but transfers this summer will be at the behest of Louis van Gaal who is currently more keen on alternative midfield targets, meaning Chelsea also remains a possible destination should Jose Mourinho fail to complete his desired business.

Ex-boss Arsene Wenger is well aware of the 27-year-old's availability but is thought to be prioritising other positions this summer as he looks to build on the Gunners' FA Cup win.

Manchester City may make a move if Yaya Toure's future lurches further into doubt, but the Ivorian is likely to stay at the Etihad and Manuel Pellegrini is keen instead to sign a defensive midfielder, with Porto's Fernando Reges already in discussions with the champions over a £20million switch.

Please keep away from The Mirror ,it now makes tribal football look creditable, all in a desperate attempt to increase traffic.

He's not going to go to Chelsea.

Mourinho won't want to sign someone that close to Barca, and if he does he certainly won't ever play him. Fabregas won't particularly want to play under him either.

That, and he isn't 6 foot 2 and built like a tank, which you have to be to play in midfield for Mourinho.

Ozil, sneijder, cambiasso, di maria and alonso have thrived under mourinho and modric played well for mourinho in the second half of last season. Im am sure he would love a midfielder like fabregas.

Makalele would probably disagree.

The biggest saga in the making... Hard to believe that official window is that far.

Twitter wankers shall write books about it.

PLEASE!

If LvG has his eyes on other targets, he needs to look at United's record of closing on its primary targets. He should then realise that depending on us to close any of even his first 4 or 5 choices is not a safe bet.

When it comes to a player like this, we should take what we can.

Surely we should?
Im working on the assumption that Van Gaal genuinely doesnt want him, which would presumably mean he is looking for a more defensively minded, tough-tackling sort of player. I can see the logic in that, Fabregas would be a great addition to have but if he did come Id still want someone who can win the ball back for us to play alongside him.

Whatever, if Van Gaal really doesnt want Fabregas then surely one of City, Chelsea or Liverpool will be interested.

Billy Bollox is a knobend. Iffff he's going it's Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal...

I've been Wenger-watching (voyeur) for 18 years, there's little he does that I don't anticipate.
