The more the Arse brigade adopt their bullish mantra, the more hilarious this episode becomes.

Last season, if Fabregas joined us, it would have been somewhat expected with us being champions, Arsenal being Arsenal, and whatnot. This season is totally different. It's all set up for Fabregas to go elsewhere but you can tell from the public denials that Arsenal folk are terrified of him heading our direction. Hence the excuses being bandied about early doors: "Throwing shed loads of money at him", "Woodward's a wizard negotiator" etc.

Beautiful.

Hated, adored, never ignored.

Yeah, but if you remember, I wasn't replying to you. I replied to someone else and you interjected.
All I am saying is that I would rather that the manager of my club would have 100% focus on the club and not have his priorities divided as I think it does give a bit of an advantage. If you disagree then fair enough.

And I'm saying I don't think it's something anyone should be worried about, because I have faith that van Gaal is capable of thinking about two things concurrently and that managing at the World Cup doesn't prevent him from deciding on a list of transfer targets that someone else can sign for him.

This is the thing I don't get, is van Gaal entirely incapable of thinking about two things at one time?

"Well Mr van Gaal, how is the World Cup going for you?"

"Hmmm, should I have waffles or eggs for breakfast?"

That's just a pointless and poor post, to be honest.

The point I'm making is, his mind is going to be on the Netherlands and the World Cup, so if we are unable to sign players from the list of targets he has given to woody, what happens next? Is he really going to jeopardise a World Cup campaign to sort out transfers?

*Ring ring Ring Ring*
Woodward: Louis, Fabregas is available. We reckon we can do it at £30m Yes or No?
Van Gaal: Yes/No
Woodward: Great, bye.

The end. Why would that be 'jeopardising' anything?

Again missed the point of the post, I said if we are unable to get the targets he wants.

I'm not saying he can't think about united and the Netherlands at the same time, but I'm pretty sure 99% of other fans would agree they would prefer it if Van Gaal was not managing Netherlands at the World Cup and was soley focused on United.

What if he's already said yes and the club are putting together a package to offer Barca and/or the player? What if the club are working on multiple deals and the go ahead of one means the other deals are stopped or slowed down? What if Van Gaal has a transfer/wage budget and does not want to over pay for individuals?

You do realize managers dont handle transfer business personally right? If Fergie was still manager he would be on a sunbed somewhere in the south of France watching Cathy snorkling

Yes I know. I'm making the point that if we can't get the players Van Gaal wants and are on his target list? Where do we go from there? And in that situation I would rather have a manager who isn't managing their home nation at a world cup.

I'm pretty sure that Van Gaal has already covered that, and that there is more than one player by position on his list.

Well thats what we have so theres no point bitching about it.

If things go wrong next season I can guarantee, this will be one of the main factors.

I'm pretty sure that Van Gaal has already covered that, and that there is more than one player by position on his list.

I hope so.

Do people think Van Gaal is naïve not to know his primary targets may not be attainable.? There were reports in the papers not long ago that Van Gaal has given Woodward an ABC list of players he wants and that does make sense.

Most of the transfers will be done after the WC so I'm relaxed about the situation.

Why wouldn't van Gaal want him in our midfield?! I mean, he has seen the options we currently have right? Of course we should be bidding for Fabregas before other teams move for him. The journos have shown they don't really know who van Gaal wants but with Strootman injured and Kroos clearly staying at Bayern, we would have to be pretty silly to pass on the chance to get Fabregas. We are desperate for a midfielder like him who has a great overall game and can even score goals too! I don't think any of our midfielders other than Mata particularly know how to do that anymore so I really do hope we make a move for Fabregas.

There is something called a phone and E-mail, which I'm sure Woody and Van Gaal use. Obviously they will be on the phone to each other on a weekly basis if not daily. If Woody reckons we won't be be able to pull off a certain deal, I'm sure he will already be in contact with Van Gaal, looking for another target.

It's more likely to be a weekly basis rather than daily. But I wonder what the negotiation process is like when players are at a World Cup, must be very difficult to sign players.

The papers also said we had tied up a deal for Kroos for 20 mill and has linked us with players like Robben and Di Maria, so I wouldn't believe everything I read in the papers. In truth, we don't know how many players are on that list, and who they are it's all just guess work.

As for your last point, you're probably right.

It's not a poor post, it's what people seem to be thinking. That every minute van Gaal is in Brazil he'll be thinking about Holland and the World Cup and that it's impossible to think about anything else. He must know absolutely nothing about Manchester United or have any idea about who he would like at the club to fit into his plan there, and he is so focused on Holland that if one of his plans don't come off he can't think of another one or take a phonecall.

How would it be jeopardised? How is answering a phonecall or an email to decide on whether to sign player b if player a is unavailable going to impact on him managing Holland, and vice versa?

I think people have this idea that managers conduct all transfer dealings personally, and have to be in the room to negotiate every minute detail with all the important parties. It's ludicrous to be worrying about this. He'll have given United a list of targets, with second and third choices (most likely, maybe more) if the first lot don't come off. If something comes up he'll be able to make or take a call or respond to an email and attend to it. Is the worry that he could be on the touchline managing Holland when the chance to sign Vidal comes up? How many deals happen in the space of a football match and can't wait til he gets the chance to look at his Blackberry?

What do you think non World Cup managers will be doing during the World Cup that van Gaal won't be able to do? They'll all most likely be in Brazil watching games and players anyway.

Also, we're signing the whole Dutch squad anyway, so he doesn't even have to leave the Dutch camp.

I never said I believed the reports but they made sense to me.

John Cross (Daily Mirror) has conspicuously silent on the Fabregas issue. He usually has the inside track on all things Arsenal/ex-Arsenal.

If by any chance we do end up signing Fabregas, Shaw and another player, Moysie would be pissed.

We don't really know who was truly responsible for last summer's fun. But he won't have been blameless.

It seems like he is available but at the right price. Barca's president recently stated that hes not for sale but perhaps he is hardballing. Cesc is out of favor with the fans, they dont like him for some reason. It appears that he would like to stay but if Barca dont want him he'd come back to England. The key question is, are Arsenal willing to sign him back ? That includes the required fee and wages. If yes, then I think hes going back there. If they are not interested then its a two horse race between United and City with the advantage for City unless we're willing to give him a ridiculous salary.

Duncan Castles in the Times said that Aguero's dad said his son would love to go to Barca. Potentially a cash + Fabregas in exchange for Aguero.

Ffs get a grip of yourself man. All this pantomime bollocks is so embarrassing. Hated adored never ignored? Who are you even talking about? A footballing institution who ply their trade in the north west, that's it. Nothing more nothing less. Go and work for paddy power or something. This is not just aimed at you by the way

If he loved us so much he would be pushing for a move right now. Those quotes don't mean anything.

He will not sign for us. And it won't be because we didn't try or offered enough money, it will be because he doesn't want to play here.

And you know he isn't because...

I thought he's always wanted to play for Real Madrid all these years? Now that looks unlikely he's already wanted to play for Barca?

Liverpool? With their cash-splashing owner offering more money than City or United... that'll happen.
I was speaking hypothetically, just a few rag rumours going around about Liverpool being interested.

Hypothetically, if Liverpool sign Ronaldo there's be a huge Caf meltdown, it's just not going to happen.

Can you stop banging on about Liverpool. The guy who apparently wrote the story for the mail himself is saying he didn't write it!

What I'm saying is he is at a disadvantage compared to managers of other clubs who are not at the World Cup.

But you make some decent points, I doubt a lot of deals actually get done during the World Cup. And yeah I imagine us being linked with pretty much every Dutch player.
