Chelsea reach agreement to sign Cesc Fábregas

If van Persie can go directly from arsenal to us, then why not.
I suspect how Arsenal fans feel about Fabregas is vastly different to how they feel about van Persie. If I had to make a comparison, it's the equivalent of how United fans would feel if Ronaldo went to another PL club.

Edit: completely missed your point.

One trophy in nine years doesn't equate to the success Manchester United have enjoyed in the same period, I think it is important for you to realise this.
No one cares what happened two seasons and two managers ago.

Once a gunner always a gunner. Didn't cesc tweet that in 2011? Obviously he's ours then lads.

If Fabregas felt so strongly about Arsenal, then surely he wouldn't have gone into a strike to force a move. DIdn't he refused to go to the pre-season with them?

This loving the club stuff is overplayed. Footballers will go for the best opportunity and money. Same goes for Ronnie.

Didn't Fabregas and RVP have a bromance? Surely that along with 2 Spainish internationals could be big positives for us, not to mention I bet we could offer a much bigger wage than both City and Chelsea.

Absolutely no chance of him coming to United, it's Arsenal or no one. Although speaking about prodigal sons returning home surely Ronny should be thinking about a move back to United ;)

When did he do that? Maybe I've missed where he said a single word about transfers since being announced.
He probably hasn't, but the way the press bring out these stories or is it the club, he is being made out to be the one rejecting all the targets we were hoping to sign. The press keep saying LvG isn't interested in them. Is that to save face before the players say they didn't want to join us?

The FA Cup doesn't count because we almost lost?

You're belittling United because of one poor season following years and years of trophies. I was just countering with the point that one swallow doesn't make a summer. You've won one trophy in a decade, so don't think you're in the strongest position when it comes to piss-taking about underperformance. Not least when you threw the most winnable league title in years away.

The problem is that the past is another country.

It's last season that counts these days and the competitions you're playing in next season.

Key word that.

We've got as much chance winning the champions league as you do next season/

Arsenal have Cazorla and Monreal who are also both Spanish internationals as well though, and I think the chances of him going to Chelsea are actually 0. City not too unbelievable but I think it's the gooners or no one.

His loyalty lies with Wenger anyways, this supposed love for Arsenal is bollocks.

If he moves, he'l go to the club with the best chance of winning things as long as they pay good money. Unfortunately, if City get involved, I'd have them as favorites.

Out of those four clubs it's painful to see that we have basically no chance.

It will likely be Arsenal. Then City. I think the Mourinho factor at Chelsea may make that option less likely.

The eternal optimist in me must think we will at least have some pulling power. Maybe the likes of RVP and Mata can big us up a little, since they've played for both Arsenal and Chelsea respectively.

The chance of him going to Chelsea are slim IMO. Don't think any barca player is very keen on Jose at all. Given the choice they would opt somewhere else.

OK I'll give you 16/1 on Man Utd winning the CL next season (same as us), how much do you want on?
Aye, what he is saying is there is no chance you will win the CL next season. With that in mind, why would he bet on a no hope?

Are you high? The three best attacking players for the the three previous Premier League seasons have been Juan Mata, Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney. Rooney was rumoured to be half-way out the door at any time over the past 18 months and if you'd said in 2012 that Mata and van Persie would both be playing for United within 18 months, you'd have probably been sectioned.

I understand when people are pessimistic when it comes to prospective transfers, but it seems most have forgotten the massive transfer coups we've had recently, not to mention managing to hold onto our talisman as well.

If we're really interested in Fabregas, it'll take a huge incentive to usurp us. I doubt even guaranteed Champions League football this season would be a big enough carrot. Selling Fabregas our intentions for this coming season, as well as the future, won't be wholly impossible, in my opinion.

No, I'm not high.

Debatable whether keeping Rooney for the cash touted was worthwhile. Van Persie was signed under a different manager / CEO, and when we were the top side in the league. And Mata was completely frozen out at Chelsea.

We're not going to get Fabregas ahead of Arsenal, City and Chelsea.

Yeah, was being slightly dramatic but any how, I don't see why a player would favor one club over the other just because for that one season they'll have european football with very very little chance winning the thing any way.

Yes City or Arsenal surely. I can't imagine Arsenal passing up the opportunity though, even if there isn't a great need for him.

We have got to be second in line. City have FFP to worry about. Chelsea meh and Liverpool not a chance in hell.

Fact is, we still have the reputation for being a trophy winning team. You have won one FA Cup - almost ballsing it up - and you think you're some sort of superpower again.

If you look back at your season, you lamely surrendered the league when it was right there for the taking.

Soft underbelly. Again.

We do, but that was the past. The main reason for that is gone. What gives us any more chance of winning trophies than Arsenal in the future?
Van Gaal's a good manager, but he's not Sir Alex. He's one of a number of good managers in the league.

I don't see why Fabregas would fancy his chances of winning trophies here any more than anywhere else. Though I could while Sir Alex was here.
Maybe Van Gaal would sell his vision to him. But the idea that he'd automatically see us as a better option isn't the case, in my opinion.

If there's a situation where both United and Arsenal bid for him and Cesc has to chose where he wants to go i'm sure he would chose us. Our squad is much better than Arsenal's bar a midfielder or two. With some additions we will be back to the CL and on the top of the table in no time with him on the ship. Meanwhile Arsenal will still be sitting at 4th with Arsene.

I'm done.

You couldn't be more wrong. This is typical delusion imo, arsenal are currently better than us and they have cl football, plus it's the English club Fabregas loves.

Thing is, do Arsenal have room for another CM/ACM? They are pretty stacked in that area. And the players they have in there are pretty decent.
Before the Cesc news broke I very highly doubt Wenger was looking at bringing in another central midfield player.

We'd definitely get him ahead of Chelsea. I can't think of a single positive that outweighs the negatives from a Chelsea point-of-view.

Has Fabregas the bottle to join what's perceived to be the best team/squad in the land (i.e. City)? Does he fancy the scrap with Fernandinho and Touré for the central-midfield spots?

As for Arsenal, in terms of that being attractive for him, it's a no-brainer.

I'd place the likelihood of him joining us just slight lower than the chances of him re-joining Arsenal. I'd definitely have us ahead of Chelsea and probably ahead of City, all things considered. He'd walk into our XI and he'd immediately be our midfield lynchpin. I'd imagine the lure of working with van Gaal would be enticing for him, as well as the idea of delivering United back to the pinnacle of the English and European game.

In his heart of hearts, Fabregas knows Arsenal aren't winning the title again anytime soon.

City - Don't think it's them unless Yaya is leaving.

Arsenal - With Ramsey, Arteta, Wilshere, Cazorla, Ozil, Flamini, I can't see where Fabreagas would fit in. They need more of a defensive midfielder.

Chelsea - Doubt he'd want to play under Mourinho and one of Arsenal's London rivals.

Liverpool - They're getting Lallana.

Man Utd - :D

As much as I dislike Arsenal I must ask, what.. we have a better keeper than them and a much better attack (center forwards) that's about it. There midfield is so much better than ours is embarrassing and we can't even begin to compare defenses seeing as we don't we have one yet with two of our better ones leaving.

Not with a good striker and Fabregas they won't.

He'll either go to Arsenal, or he'll go where the most money is, I reckon. I can't see us being in contention. I'd happily admit to being wrong though.

He still seems to have alot of time for Arsenal and speaks about them on occasion. I would imagine he would prefer to return over a move to a rival of Arsenal.
