Perhaps some of we are realizing the immense disadvantage of not playing in the UCL. Combined with the general blandness of Manchester life, we just aren't a great pull at the moment.

I said this about kroos and I will say it about fabregas . I wonder why its only united and arsenal linked with him. You would think lots of clubs would be after him. Even though they have good midfielders already im surprised juventus dont go for him. Therefore he doesnt upset anyone and will play for a team that wins and challenges for trophies. Especially if its true that vidal is leaving.

He apparently wants to move back the Premier League, and Juve aren't as big of a pull as they used to be,

It's been said a million time now, but City had no problem signing Silva and Toure when they were out of the CL and perhaps you don't realise this anymore, but City are still a drop in the water compared to us in size. We'll have no problem signing top players if the money is there.

In the case of Kroos you were offering silly money; in the case of Fabregas he's coming back to Arsenal if he leaves.

The Guardian reporting that LVG is not interested in Fabregas and Kroos.....basically means Woodward has been politely told that neither player will be arriving in manchester this summer
I think Strootman is the player we may get...I can't really think of any other top central midfielder that we have a chance of getting apart from Song who we may not want so LVG may sign an unheard of kid instead too.....Mascherano and Song will be available too but could see Barca maybe offering Mascherano and Alexis Sanchez to Juve in return for Vidal and Lorente

Some of the usual from oppo fans here. Finished above us once in the past 9 years and Utd fans' optimism in certain threads is being mocked, Ozil is the best number 10 in the world, 95% chance Fabregas is at Arsenal next season. Get your snide comments in while you can, it must feel lovely to be out of our shadow for once, even though you still only finished 4th, as per usual.

That would be utterly underwhelming. I'm in a proper sulk now thanks to you. Thanks.

If we're only getting one midfielder, I'd much rather we get Fabregas and play him next to Jones, than get Strootman and play him next to Carrick. Carrick-Strootman would be boring as feck.

I think it is stupid to compare the squads at this stage.

At the beginning of the season, you'd argue that maybe 3 of the Arsenal players, maybe 4 at a push would get into a joint team. After that, when it comes down to it, the squad as a whole was much better also.
You are now judging the squads after the season has finished, which is fine I guess, but it will be interesting to see squads when it comes to the start of the season.

The defence mentioned by the Arsenal fan was a complete back line of Arsenal players.
At the start of the up coming season, that will totally change. Sagna is gone and a fit Rafael will be better than anyone they would buy in my opinion. Shaw is also a much better option than Gibbs, so if he does come in, as expected, that is a big shift already, and thats with us more than likely buying a good CB. And thats just me starting at the back

All ifs and buts, but it's pointless comparing sides now as the season is over, we need to compare squads on when the season will start

Strootman wont be fit until what, October/November anyway?...So that wont happen till January at the earliest, if it happens at all.

True. Before the season started united fans were saying they had a better team than Chelsea and now they are saying Chelsea underachieved with their squad. Also in December when arsenal were doing well their fans were saying that they had a better team than or as good a team as Chelsea but by april were saying that Chelsea had a better team and had flopped by not winning anything. Imo moyes underachieved greatly with the united team that was champions the year before. Im not really sure what to make of chelseas team. They have a lot of attacking midfielders but no strikers and have to defend deep to cover their slow defence. It would be at a similar level to arsenals but maybe a bit better because of the defence. I think arsenal have better midfielders and a better striker although that is not saying much when it comes to the striker.

In fairness before we signed van persie 2 seasons ago....the last time we had signed one of the biggest names in world football was 8 years before the van persie signing in wayne rooney yet every summer we get told by the tabloids that we are on the verge of signing the most in demand player in the world only for a club with more money or sunshine comes in and pips us to it at the last second...the reality is that every summer now it is getting harder to sign big names with the emergence of chelsea, city, psg...not to mention even arsenal and liverpool are offering wages close to what we can offer....the reality is that we have to go for up and coming players instead of established stars...the money is there for pogba and vidal but they likely won't come here as everyone wants them and juve probably won't sell pogba this year..so that is why I expect LVG to pounce for players like Memphis Depay, konoplyanka, Strootman, Song , shaw, etc while at the same time promoting youth through the ranks such as lingard, pearson etc

That reduced spending coincided with the Glazers taking over. I do agree with the general sentiment, but I think its the wrong road to take with this squad. We have squad depth but lack first team quality. We have done for several seasons and its got worse by our oldies retiring and our senior players being underwhelming.

I think its more of a case of LVG not being comfortable going for the players we identified and perhaps want to devote the resources elsewhere. It would be typical United to go after Strootman this Summer which would require 25-30m to get him.

It must be frustrating as feck being Woody if he had been in negotation with Kroos/Bayern and for the plug to be pulled.

If FFP stands, and of course that's a big 'if', United are on course for world (European) domination. Arsenal won't be anywhere near us for the foreseeable future.

What we can offer Cesc: Bigger club, better manager, more money, 75,000+ fans at home, better teammates, a very exciting future.

Arsenal can offer: sentimental value.

And CL Football, don't forget that.

Is fabregas still a top midfielder? Or has his time at Barca brought him down a level or two? He comes across as more of an attacker/attacking midfielder these days.

I hope we've got a plan B and C for the likes of Fabregas and Kroos. Players of that level rarely end up at OT

That's only guaranteed for 1 season, the odds after that could easily go United's way.

And it also could not. As it stands we are in the CL and better positioned to be in the CL next season compared to United.

You could re-assess this at the end of the window once the transfers have been wrapped up mind you.

Berbatov?

Tevez?

Nani and Anderson were wanted by other clubs.

Yeah agree so was Berbatov and Hargreaves not sure why they were omitted by Ringo maybe he was on holiday through these transfers.

Barca arent in a rush to offload him because they want a fee that matches their evaluation for him. As for the player himself I cant see why he wouldnt want to go back to Arsenal he was far more appreciated there than in Barca. Our only chance (a very small one) is that we offer the right sum of cash to Barca and give Cesc a ridiculous wage on par with RvP perhaps. I still do not think that this is likely to happen I would rather move on to other targets.

The trouble with shopping for that calibre of player is that you'll struggle to have a plan b that is anywhere near as good.

There's an enormous gap between the likes of Cleverley and the likes of Fabregas. Surely we can find players who fit in that gap and who are closer to Fabregas and more distant to Cleverley.

We can't keep on relying on Ando and Cleverley just because no one can replace Paul Scholes.

He'll be the best midfielder in the league if he returns. That's how good he is.

FFS, Van Gaal is an anti-muppet! Ruining our dreams about Kroos and now Fabregas! Sack him!

Every manager we had seem to be an anti muppet because we rarely sign big name signings.
