Chelsea reach agreement to sign Cesc Fábregas

Big players like tevez, silva and toure joined city before they were in the cl. If a club can offer a player a lot of money as well as convince the player to buy into the clubs projects and goals then they can sign them. Kolo and adebayor left arsenal before too when city weren't in the champions league. If players think that united have more potential in the than long term than arsenal and can reach greater heights they will join united over arsenal.

Yeh, that's when the ridiculous cash comes in. Are you willing to give Cesc £250,000, for example? Man City were willing to give us £15m for a washed up Toure.

There's also an issue now of so many sides being able to offer similar high salaries that players have a legitimate choice.

I don't know why United don't track another Arsenal target in Lars Bender. Good player.

United need both good and great midfielders. There is no reason, for example, why they missed out on Matic, another good one. Signing the piece de resistance is hard but the sensible, attainable players aren't.

Lars Bender said he's staying and doesn't want to move to a bigger team just now.

It was more than just cash that they joined city. They obviously felt that city had the potential to challenge for trophies. Im not sure if the French clubs had the money at the time but there are always clubs that will pay you more like in the united arab emirates. Asmoah gyan left sunderland to play there and you could say that was just for money. Money is always nice but most talented players want to win stuff as well. I remember reading in torres book before that he said when you retire you want to show people pictures of you winning trophies and that you wouldn't just want to talk about the money that you made. Im sure that is how it is for most talented players although everyone is greedy and wants to make as much money as possible too.

Been saying this all Summer. Should be chasing the likes of Vidal at the point they leave Leverkusen rather than waiting for them to join Juve and become unattainable.

I don't understand why people think he will return to Arsenal if he leaves, in the past 3 years since he left they have only just won an FA Cup and nothing that much has changed, they still really haven't won nothing of great importance or made any strive forward or even challenged for a title, really don't see why he would want to go to a team that is most likely not going to be challenging for a league or champs in the future either.

"Awaits the Man United finished 7th last season comments from angry gooners"

So he's going to sign for a team in crisis that just finished 7th in the league? Writing white text doesn't save you from the inevitable logic.

I would love for us to go for him, the only problem is I don't think anyone has even mentioned United and Bender in any time of gossip, disappointingly. Always just been Arsenal or Chelsea or whoever. So many midfielders that would improve us and we're letting so many pass us by like Rakitic because we're going for unattainable targets like Vidal or Fabregas last summer. I'm at the point where I would be happy with pretty much any new midfielder, just so long as he has been pretty good as a central midfielder and is mobile. Not like Fellaini impressing as a target man and not being mobile at all. Just a decent midfielder who could run would improve United

It's like people don't even realise we signed Ozil for £42.4m last summer, eclipsing any transfer fee that has ever emanated out of Manchester.

If FFP stands, and of course that's a big 'if', United are on course for world (European) domination. Arsenal won't be anywhere near us for the foreseeable future.

What we can offer Cesc: Bigger club, better manager, more money, 75,000+ fans at home, better teammates, a very exciting future.

Arsenal can offer: sentimental value.

 Great username.

Easy to do when it's the only player you're buying. We've spent 70m in the same period. We can outspend you with ease.

A one off transfer of that size means nothing when you look at your transfer record before then. The highest Wenger spent on a player before then is probably laughably lower, not to mention the high profile players you sold to rivals.

We'd outbid you any day of the week

It's not a one-off transfer. It's an indication of an ability we now possess to spend more in the transfer market.

It's weird how people just do not understand that we moved stadium.

You've got to be kidding me? Arsenal is horrendously underrated on here.

If Fabregas comes back to the EPL, Arsenal is his 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice.

Why is United's future particularly exciting, by the way?

Given you've come off the Ferguson era, does anyone see an improvement on that? Even a semblance of maintaining it?

It does tickle me that Arsenal finished above us this season and are all of a sudden a much better team and prospect than we are.

Last season we won the league, the season before that, we finished with equal points. I am not saying we are the best team, because we do have gaps for sure, but we had a bad season, under a bad manager and all of a sudden we are a bad team that needs major reworkings.

Next season will be tough, we need to get some good players, and spend correctly, but I am confident that we will get back into the champions league positions. We haven't been at the top of this division for the last 20 or so years to just suddenly disappear.

That leaves one team to potentially drop out of the top 4. I know who my money would be on

Let's go with better team-mates. You finished 7th last year. There's a reason.

If I'm Cesc, I've got to be massively financially induced or there has to be tonnes of birthday cake before I consider that move.

We've finished outside the top 3 'One Time' in the last two decades. This is largely down to the biggest transition in English football, coupled with the appointment of a man who was overwhelmed and, the appointment of a new pen pusher!

We're now in a position where by we have the original Mourinho in charge and, an absolute bundle of cash to spend on our squad. Yes, ye've finally won a trophy. Please do not let that get any more to your head in insinuating that we are not an appealing prospect.
