Barca can feck off if they think they're getting Mata, even if Fabregas was involved I'd refuse them point blank, our Juan's off limits!!
I'd give it some serious thinking. I think we're really going to struggle to work Rooney, VP and Mata into one team, whereas I think Fabregas coming in not only boosts the centre mid, but means we can play what would then be our three top players.
Speaking hypothetically, I'd do it if it was the only way of getting hold of a CM of Fabregas' calibre. If there was the option to heavily overpay for him, I'd do that instead. Or if someone else was available for cash only - Kroos or Vidal, for example, I'd go for them instead.
But at the end of the day, we badly need a top quality player or two in CM, whereas we have two other top class #10s competing with Mata in the form of Rooney and Kagawa. People might think that in an objective comparison Mata is worth more at the moment, but the important question is which would be worth more to us, and the answer to that is obviously the CM.
So yes, I'd reluctantly do it if it was the only way of laying hands of someone of his quality. Lesser of two evils.
If he wants Mata the bid would have to be in the region of 45-50m.

Its obvious, after the Andy Mitten piece on Kroos, that players are rejecting us and to save face we're claiming Van Gaal didn't want them.
See through the spin. United are struggling to attract the biggest names because we're not in the Champions League. No shock there. The club is special to its fans, not to ambitious money/glory driven pros.

Like I said, just look at what Andy Mitten said this morning, the idea we weren't sniffing around Kroos is just being put out there by United to save face from the fact he rejected us. We wanted him, he didn't want to come, so United have made up the story that he wasn't on Van Gaal's list. I suspect its the same with Fabregas.
We are going to find it very difficult to sign top drawer talent when we aren't in the European Cup. The best players want to play in the biggest tournaments and they are usually unwilling to gamble on going to sides that might make it in. Even City had to sign a lesser class of player before their first fourth placed finish, despite all their money.
The club can keep acting like finishing seventh hasn't effected us but nobody is buying what they are selling. That is why the way Gill and Fergie did business, on the quiet without the chance of much embarrassment, was much better for United's reputation. If things came off we were making a statement but if things went wrong nobody knew and so nobody knew if we were being outmatched by our rivals.

How many of the players on the list would we be getting with CL football? I'd guess very few.
Because LVG is currently busy with the World Cup, I have it on good authority that his actual transfer list is just a screenshot of the transfer forum on here. He's currently watching videos of Alex Bruce on youtube.
If we pay the money then we can compete just like the rest. But as it stands we seem to be negotiating with a joker, uno card, and maxed out credit card.
