Charlie Adam | Set for talks with Liverpool

By the way are Liverpool fans seriously trying to pretend we're in for him just to try and get some pride back after what happened with the Jones and Young deals? how low can you go? where's their self respect? it was bad enough when they desperately started making up blatant lies of us having to pay 25 million for jones because of them without resorting to this shit.

Jones and Young rejecting them for us must have really hurt them.

I wont right Adam off, if he steps up for a bigger club then the 10mil or whatever will look like money well spent. If he can't hack the bigger playground then he'll be a laughing stock once more.

What i do like about Adam is he seems like a guy who isn't intent with what he's got, he wants to prove himself. Players with a point to prove, with that determination often do well.

He could do with improving his waist line for a start.

From what I've seen of the lad, he does his best work in the final 3rd of the field. Pearce had him playing as a defensive midfielder against Spain on Sunday.

I seriously doubt Dalglish has bought him to occupy such a role. & I doubt he'll come up against many sides in The Premiership that keep hold of the ball the way that the Spaniards do.

Barcelona made quite a few United players look 'shocking' a couple of weeks ago. But we all know they're anything but.

Given time, I think Henderson will be a major asset for us.

No he didn't.

Mancienne was anchoring midfield. Henderson was supposed to be the more advanced of the two. He just didn't do his job very well.

Yeah Henderson was supposed to be more attacking. I have never been that impressed by him to be honest (and I said that before he joined Liverpool).

Well he isn't though...

He's not mobile enough to perform well in a two man midfield - unless the man next to him is a complete deep lying destroyer. Basically, he's at his most effective in a three man midfield and, frankly, he's no where near talented enough to justify playing an extra man in there to support and accommodate him.

His passing is ridiculously Hollywood and will be exposed at a better club. Not every ball needs to be attacking.

Mancienne might have been the holding midfielder, but it was quite obvious he was getting over-run by the young Spanish lads, which in effect meant Henderson having to drop deeper to try & get the ball, thus negating his attacking capabilities.

I just find it amusing that people are saying, 'I've never rated the lad anyway', & a sub-standard performance against a very good side, in which most of the other players were just as culpable, somehow justifies the negativity shown towards a lad who hasn't even kicked off his Liverpool career.

England didn't have much of the ball (for which Henderson shares the blame) but Pearse certainly didn't have him "playing as a defensive midfielder", which was your original point.

Agree with the gist of your second paragraph in that judging any player after one game against a side as good as that is a bit daft. That said, if you read the Henderson thread, you'll see people have been underwhelmed by Henderson since he was first linked with United. The general negativity has nothing to do with that one game, or the fact he signed for Liverpool.

& if our mentality was - 'we're good enough to win the league' - You'd laugh at us for being delusional.

Not if you signed a few decent players.

Even you must realise that every season a lot of Liverpool fans say the same thing, i.e. that they are going to win the league, so it merits the odd slag that you will get on here. You are definitely going to go in the right direction in the next couple of seasons anyway.

Daily Star: Simply The Best 7 Days A Week :: Football :: Sir Alex Ferguson plans to snatch Charlie Adam
SIR ALEX FERGUSON is plotting a sensational £12m bid to hijack Charlie Adam’s move to rivals Liverpool.

Blackpool admitted Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has opened talks over Charlie Adam.

A £7m bid was rejected by the Seasiders in January but the Anfield club have gone back in for the Scotland international.

Now, Starsport understands, Manchester United boss Ferguson is set to go head-to-head with old rival Dalglish and join the race to land Adam.

Adam scored against United at Old Trafford this season and impressed Fergie with a string of stand-out displays for Ian Holloway’s relegated team.

The Seasiders are in no rush to flog Adam and chairman Karl Oyston will not let his prize asset go un- less it is the right deal for them.

But Fergie is convinced he can outmuscle Liverpool because he can offer the 25-year-old higher wages.

Fergie has already beaten Dalglish to the signing of Blackburn’s Phil Jones.

He will turn to Adam because he fears losing out to Chelsea in his bid to sign Inter Milan star Wesley Sneijder.

Fergie has made Sneijder his No.1 choice to replace the retired Paul Scholes and is keen on making the Holland midfielder his big-name summer signing.

But the Blues can match United’s £30m bid and are also willing to meet Sneijder’s £200,000-a-week wagedemands.

1st choice; Wesley Sneijder
2nd choice; Charlie Adam

riiiight.

It's just Adam's agent, trying to drive up Liverpool's wage offer.

At least I hope so.

Is it still amusing that after 3 inept performances people still don't rate Henderson?

Arghhhh, God...don't...bump...this...thread...

*clutches heart*

I think its pretty much said by various journalist that we aren't interested in him, that's why I don't get scared when somebody bumps.this thread.

Rating a player's worth on the basis of 3 junior international matches played during the off season?

LOLZ

Pool's best midfield team was 4-5 years ago with Mascherano, Gerrard and Xabi Alonso. Kuyt on right midfield. However, the sales of Mascherano & Xabi has fecked them backwards 10 years. No way is Lucas, Henderson, Shelvey, Jovanovanovanoavnic, Joe Cole is going to replace that midfield class they sold away.

Of course, they simply blame the American owners & Roy Hodgson.

No, it's actually quite hilarious that people are writing the lad off even before he's kicked a ball for Liverpool.

People aren't allowed to judge him as a player (overall, rather than specifically a Liverpool player) from what he's shown for England and for Sunderland?

Henderson was dreadful for England over the course of the last couple of weeks. Yes, he could get better and all that (whether he improves to the extent that he justifies that ridiculous sum is another thing), but he's been really, really poor.

The reluctance to make a forward pass was disturbing, not to mention the lack of drive. It was somewhat amusing watching Jones and Smalling charging up the pitch taking on a couple of players in the process, mainly because it was if they were doing it solely in order to make up for the completely inept midfielders infront of them. Can't remember the last time I saw that happen so frequently.

Henderson isn't a bad player by english standards - and can probably do quite well for Liverpool - but will he ever dominate the team ? I doubt it

my biggest concern regarding Henderson is his ability to lose the ball in dangerous positions. Hopefully that will come with experience

Or seeing as he's a Dipper, hopefully not.

Next year will be a very very tough season. Liverpool are back because they are buying some good players. City and Chelsea will obviously spend. Spurs are good and will be maybe buy a couple of players. Arsenal and us really need investing.

 Henderson and Adam? Really?

Suarez is good. Carroll could be good. I meant they are better than the buys of Rafa.
Debatable. Henderson for £20 million or Xabi Alonso for £10 million? Suarez for £23 million or Torres for £23 million (I think..?). Rafa made some duff signings (Keane and Aquilani immediately spring to mind) but he did make som good signings, for good prices as well. So far under Dalgleish only Suarez has been signed for what I'd consider market value. The timing of the Carroll transfer didnt help that price, but thats still an incredible transfer fee for 'could be good' and I wouldnt rate his potential as being worth that much at all.

That is true but the market nowadays has been inflated and we HAVE to pay more now to get a player when compared to five or six years ago.
