Charlie Adam | Set for talks with Liverpool

Not really, plenty of people on here including myself have said that wanted absolutely nothing to do with Adam months before Liverpool got involved.

It is possible to not actually rate a player you know.

I think all our posts of horror at him being linked with him must have been invisible to some people, because it seems it's only since he's been linked with Liverpool that people are saying he's not good enough.

Same thing happened with Henderson. Weird.

His passing range is quite fantastic, you'll have to admit that. I was thinking more long-range/cross-fields passes when I wrote my comment. I don't think many players are much better passers than Adam, they just seem better because of the movement they have as well, which makes some of their passes seem better as they get into better positions. That's how I see it at least.

He can play some great passes at times that's for sure but he seems too much of a Hollywood passer of the ball for me.

Sort of like Anderson really; He could play a long ball over the top with the outside of his boot that is weighted perfectly and then the next time he's in possession he could balloon a ten yard pass to feet out of play.

Fabregas, to use him as an example, is just as capable, if not more capable, of playing all the highlight reel passes but yet has a really high consistency rate all round. I don't believe that Adam belongs in that type of company in the discussion, personally.

I get your points. I should've specified that I was talking about long range passes. I don't think Adam is miles ahead of other players (like Scholes was) when it comes to these, but I think he's among the best. I still think his general play is quite shit though, which is why I'm happy he's going to Liverpool.

No that's not true. With Adam the most people would say is that he might offer ok value.

Most people were alarmed at the prospect of buying him.

Not denying the general accuracy of your observation but not sure it is actually true in this case.

I've been saying the same thing about him for months, and so have plenty of others.

For someone to then turn around and suggest that people are only saying he's no good because it looks like he's going to Liverpool is patently untrue.

The fact that the thread title is worded as it is should be a clue to some people, one would think.

Bit of a weird one from Liverpool.

They already have Meireles, Lucas, Gerrard, Shelvey (who I think is a good player) and now Henderson.

Central midfield was one of their stronger suits last season. Lets wait and see who else they get because they blatantly need to shore up at the back and on the wings.

Think I've misunderstood something somewhere.

If you're saying plenty of people thought he was crap a long time ago then I agree.

It's also hilarious how quickly a player gets regarded as shit when Liverpool sign him.

Look at the title of the thread. That pretty much sums up the majority opinion on him. The same shit has been pedalled in the Henderson thread as well and it was just as unfounded then as it is now.

Sky Sports News sources understand Liverpool will hold talks with Blackpool's Charlie Adam later this week.

The Scotland international has long been a target of the Anfield club and they failed in an attempt to agree a deal in the January transfer window.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish's interest in his compatriot is not thought to have ended and he is again attempting to secure the playmaker, with Sky Bet suspending their market earlier on Monday.

Sky sources understand discussions will consequently take place with relegated Blackpool and Adam later this week.

The Reds have already signed Jordan Henderson from Sunderland and are expected to continue to remodel their squad this summer.

Ongoing interested in Adam, who suits Fenway Sports Group's policy for young, British players, adds to the uncertainty surrounding Raul Meireles.

Despite a promising debut season in the Premier League, it has been speculated that the 28-year-old could be sold due to his age and doubts about his fitness.

Well that was underwhelming, hopefully the deal is completed soon.

People are suggesting Blackpool want Shelvey on loan for a season as part of the deal, could be a cause to the delayed agreement.

Charlie Adam's passing is like Gerrard's. They always look for the hollywood ball when a simple short pass would suffice. Gets praised for hauling their team back from 2 goals down to get a draw when some simple tactical discipline from them in the first place wouldn't have seen their team concede twice.

They could do much worse, but at the same time, they could have done much better than to go for him.

Liverpool should be targeting better players than Adam if they intend to reach the Champions League for next season.

I would say Bolton are more his level

Put it this way they are trying to build a midfield that suits Andy Carrols style of play ie fill it with Hollywood passers whos first thought is to go long, Henderson was doing that all last night, Adam does it religiously for Blackpool and Gerrard well we all know he likes a hollywood pass or twenty a match.

To be fair to Arsenal fans they dont get much right but their chant of "Liverrrrrpoooooll HOOF the ball" will be very apt next season.

Nah. Too many games where we failed to dominate the midfield. One of our weaker spots. A lot of that also came down to Gerrard being injured a lot though. By the looks of it, his operation has gone exceedingly well, so if he has recovered from the injury that has plagued him the past two years or so, that in itself will be a massive boost.

Not convinced about Adam though. I think he gives the ball away too easily, his decisionmaking needs improvement and physically and defensively he needs to prove himself far more than he did for Blackpool.

In many ways, he epitomised Blackpool's seasoon. Great to watch, but sloppy and weak defensively.

There is a gifted player in there, but I consider him very much a diamond in the rough and at his age, I am not sure there is time left to cut and polish it. I suppose though he has been on a steep upward trajectory the past two years, so a case could be made that he can continue that and make the step up simply because he has learned what it takes to improve a lot as a player.

On the other hand, as a replacement for Meireles we won't be losing much defensively anyway and what we might lose in mobility is presumably gained in passing range.

I swear, some people just don't watch football yet pretend to know.

Gerrard hasn't been that type of player for over three years now.

Not true at all.

Adam in, Mereiles out makes Liverpool a weaker side.

Fingers crossed.

It's a trivial difference either way. Sideways step for a different type of player.

Neither are as good as they are often made out to be. If we want a passmeister in there, I'd prefer to stick with Aquilani.

Adam is a good player but I wouldn't want him near United thank you very much.

Liverpool going for the British theme under Kenny it seems. From Alonso and Mascherano to Adam & Henderson.

Great transfer by Liverpool, spend £30m to bolster midfield which is actually the only half decent part of their team. Fingers crossed they don't have much money to address their real problems now, like wings or defence...

Crap, I forgot about the best winger in the world and the best defender in the world who are already there.

Meireles is top quality. Who is supposed to be interested in him? I reckon you'd get £20m for him easily.
