Casemiro (out)

I don’t agree it was madness at all, he was an important player in building back up our reputation and helping turn our season around when we finished 3rd.
The madness was then not to strengthen after that in central midfield. Cas was always going to have a great chance to move to Saudi when the time came.
He was top quality and big part of us finishing 3rd and winning the Carabao Cup. Fee was really big and Real mugged us off big time but even more annoying for me was giving a 4 year contract to a 30 year old player. 3 years would've been enough. Anyway, as early as towards the end of 22/23 he showed signs of decline and it felt like buying another DM was a must for us in summer of 2023 (also Fred left that summer). However, ten Hag went for Mount who is an attacking midfielder and wasn't working (as expected) next to Bruno with ageing Casemiro behind them in that wild system.

He's almost 33 but Casemiro showed this and (more) last season those moments of brilliance he has and think that'd help Al Nassr massively. Ronaldo probably wants him there (if rumours are true anyway) to have his mate with him and push for the title and given it's weaker league Casemiro would probably be good enough defensively and have big impact in attacking area as well. Casemiro achieved bringing us back in top 4 that season and winning 2 cups, even if we're to win big things under Amorim it's not happening soon so no reason for Casemiro to stay if there's Saudi offer on the table.

If we can get decent money and have a replacement this month then sell Casemiro now. If not then in summer.

If you have a team who are on the verge of challenging for the major trophies (league and CL) then maybe adding this profile of player makes sense, can push the team over edge.

Adding a winding down vet who has won everything to a mediocre team with years of transition ahead before the team can properly challenge s a waste of time and resources.

Absolutely no chance of a Jan exit.
Small chance of a summer exit.
Massive likelihood is him seeing out his 18months.

Is there any news that has caused posts with conviction that he won't leave this window?

His work rate and effort would be amazing in this new system. I’d love him back
He was just beginning to pick up form after finally getting a consistent run at DM and then of course we didnt pick up the option to buy. He was one of the key reasons we won that final. If Casemiro played that was a guaranteed L.

Yeah “Cup Final” Amrabat would be cover for Ugarte and allow some rotation and would seem better suited to this formation… left isolated in the 433 Ten Hag played.

Him not leaving is the default - it’s up to those thinking he will be sold to back that up with credible sources.
We had Ben Jacobs who is meant to have some established connections with the middle east?

We’re stuck with him for at least another 18 months.

"At least"? Where does that come from. He's got 18 months left on his deal. If he's not off this January, which I expect will happen, he'll be off in the summer. The fact he now has a manager who doesn't fancy him and we've seen reports he's open to Saudi virtually guarantees he's off asap.

The only question is how much money will United get and will it be enough to offset the remainder of the rest of the amortised 60m we spent on acquiring him two and a half seasons ago. We'd need around 22m to not make a loss on him now.

Building back up our reputation? More like cementing our reputation as morons who overpay for declining players.

I swear Case to Saudi is a rumour every window since he signed, i reckon we are stuck with him till the summer at best if not he'll see out the contract all these rumours are never corroborated by a good source
We're never going to be a Chelsea or similar cynical team who can utilise these China / Saudi / Whoever the next new money league is.
Despite 100s of mentions weekly on this forum about us doing so.

He’s seeing out his contract or being loaned out for the final year of it with Utd subsidising his salary. I’m sure the club are trying their best to sell him to Saudi Arabia but think it is too late now.

Not true, 6-10m should be enough depending on what his wages are right now

I confess to not really having a clue when it comes to PSR and all the gymnastics. In my simpleton way of thinking I just thought a 60m fee amortised over the length of a 4 year deal would be 15m a year, and that we're 37.5m through that original fee (assuming that whatever the 10m add-ons were, it won't be triggered).

The fact Amorim used Casemiro as an example of a player on the fringes really should escalate this.

Reporter: Do you know your best team.
Amorim: You can see there is less rotation, for example Manuel is playing more than Casemiro.

Get it done.

That's correct, but it's only half of the equation. You have to offset that book value write-down with the half year of wages and amortization that we would no longer incur this financial period if we got him off the books.

I knew it wasn't so simple. I defer to your take.
