Casemiro (out)

£300k+ a week off the wage bill + £20m to cover his book value feels too good to be true.

Here’s hoping this one gets over the line - a huge step in the right direction.

If we can get him off the books cleanly and save his wages then we should. He still brings things to the team, but the financial situation dictates.

we should get rid, but who is his replacement until the summer? Toby Collyer? We need some smart loan signing or reinvest straight away.

Hope we get a decent fee. Think it's doable if Saudi clubs compete with each other for him.

The Saudi state owns the three biggest clubs, there will be no competition. Still, if United can get around 30m for him that would be fantastic.

Ah fair enough. But yeah 30m would be great.

After a couple of years here the rainy nights in Salford vs the permanent heat of Saudi might also be in his mind. He's not going to win the league here so he might as well take the dollar bucks.

Have heard similar stories in the summer and last January as well, it would be great to offload him but still think most likely outcome he is still here when the window shuts.

surely Saudi have no reason to actually offer anything above his psr value? I’m assuming that’s the minimum we’d sell for, but anything above that we’d drive him there ourselves.

A Saudi club buys him for £50M, we celebrate. In the midst of our celebrations we accidentally book a tour in Saudi Arabia for next summer, where we'll play against Barcelona (who are also celebrating after selling a completely unrelated Saudi club one of Laporta's girdles for £50M)

Hey it’s all legal according to city fans

There are many reports that Douglas Luiz could leave Juventus already in January and that he is open to returning to the Premier League. Maybe if somehow we could manage to get him on loan it would be a decent option.

that woul

thatd be a fantastic deal

Genuine question: why on earth would a Saudi club want Casemiro? Is his PR value really worth much? He's not even really a Premier League quality player anymore.

Yes. There aren't that many players around that won 5 CL (and are willing to entertain the move to the Saudi league) and collecting as many of them looks like one of Saudi's goals (Cristiano & Benzema are already there, they've offered contracts to Kroos, Modrić and, I believe, Varane...).

Also, "not even Premier League quality" is still more than good enough (in his case) for their league, which itself is nowhere near Premier League quality. Casemiro still has those beautiful passes in his arsenal and he's a considerable threat at set pieces, his main issue is that he doesn't really have the mobility (nor the reaction speed) to keep up with top level football — when that level drops, like in the League Cup, he looks rejuvenated and surprisingly useful. It's very likely that he'll actually perform well there... because their league is embarrassingly bad but still.

To me it will always look bad how club offered a 4 year contract to a 30 year old player, even if it was Casemiro. If it was at least 3 year contract then he’s surely be gone this summer we know that. But 4 years was stupid.

Of course he's still good enough to play over there. But you don't need to pay £350k a week and a large transfer fee for that kind of quality. It must be the PR value (or like the other poster said, keeping Renaldo happy).

That’s why they’re not going to pay him £350k… apparently they’re offering £650k!

But yeah, as I’ve said, he is worth as much for them PR-wise. There really aren’t that many players of his pedigree around. And their project needs regular star injections at least until their own World Cup (a decade from now).

Summer 2023 was the time to sell this guy - Saudi were all in that summer and splurging big time - they significantly quietened down the summer after and (maybe) will stay quiet now? The people at the club just couldn't ever get anything right, could they? Like, not one bloody decision.
