Casemiro (out)

How is leaving Man Utd for say a mid table Italian team or the Saudi league ambitious? Maybe someone who's always played for one of the biggest clubs in the country would much rather stay and try to contribute there rather than devolve into obscurity.

People want loyalty from players when they are good, but the moment they drop a level they want those players to vanish. It's not his fault we signed him for that money. He's doing nothing wrong and by all accounts a good influence to have around the place, one of the only genuine winners in the squad. Don't understand the criticism.
I would think he´s too young to accept a bench role, and if he just accepts that then I would not call him a genuine winner anymore.

Fully agree with this.

He doesn't though, he's probably a 4th - 5th choice sub. His wages + ability literally hold us back. Not his fault and he's a professional but source of frustration nevertheless.
He does, he's a proven winner and can definitely do a job when called upon.
May not have the tenacity or legs that he used to, but he still has the nous and reading of the game.

Bar the odd very poor game he has generally been pretty decent for us when called upon.

You're right he should start throwing stuff out of the pram and giving inflammatory interviews saying how unhappy he is to be on the bench. That will show his winning quality.

Failing that, he should bin all his CL medals and other accolades because GreatDane on Redcafe thinks he is not a genuine winner anymore.

I feel bad for this guy. Was never understood here. Very humble, very hardworking, and always willing to do his job for others guys to shine on the team.

And thats what made him have so many trophies. But should never have been a central acquisition, he's a role player. And playing alone in midfield, he would always depend on physicality.

The mistake was having a coach who does not understands football, and spent so much on a player who was not a priority.

Lots of guys from Brasil prioritize family and financial security (nothing wrong with that). But that means no one spent 5 minutes thinking about the pros and cons of his transfer. Which is awful from the club.

Or he's willing to accept that he's not good enough to start but can still offer something to the team when required maybe??

Why is everyone on here so damn cynical and willing to pour scorn on every player all the time?
Even if this is just his official position it still further’s the managers influence by showing that even a multiple CL winner does as he’s told if the manager says he’s a squad player now. No issues with this.

It was an awful purchase in hindsight and it was a very dangerous and questionable one at the time. The contract length, salary and cost of him was extremely high. He was going from a team that coasts through most games at a canter, gets a ridiculous number of decisions in their favour and plays in a slower and less competitive league, to the PL at a struggling club in a fast paced league and fast approaching 30.

The potential upsides were there but the potential downsides were glaring and huge. Then again, thats been our MO. Hope for the best. 10:1 shot this works out and if it doesn't it will be a mess? I like those odds. Same reason we gave the likes of Rashford a ridiculous contract. Signed Sancho on a ridiculous contract. You have to make safe choices 90% of the time and then you can take risks on that last 10%.

Nothing hindsight about it. It was very clearly a poor move beforehand. Team shouldn't be targeting 30 year olds in the first place, let alone dropping £150M in wages and fees for the privilege. It was a disastrous process that led to a predictably horrible result.

The fact many fans praised it only shows how short-sighted most are, and why no one should ever let fans be in charge. You can bet we'd be right back in the hunt for more old, expensive, overpriced buys.
We lost first 2 games of the season and panicked. 70m euros for a 30 year old player would rarely look like a good piece of business but it is what it is. Casemiro was perhaps crucial in getting to 3rd place finish and winning the Carabao Cup so there's that. But what was more annoying is his huge wages and especially a 4 year contract. If it was 3 year contract and wage of 250k (which I do believe he'd still accept) he'd be leaving this summer and this way we're not sure that's going to happen given his wage demands.

Anyway, although his decline started as early as spring 2023, we needed a replacement. Instead, we sold Fred and bought Mount who is not even a replacement for Fred, let alone Casemiro.

Would be great if we can get rid of either Casemiro's or Rashford's wages this window by loaning them somewhere. Few days left..

Sure buddy, that's what I wrote.
