Casemiro (Out)

hopefully he represents the end of our ridiculously stupid transfer strategy of signing old superstars on massive wages who inevitably decline within 12 months of signing.

I was so confused by the wording of the tweet. The sovereign wealth fund buys players and then assigns them to clubs?

So I looked it up, and all the top teams are either owned by the government, the sovereign wealth fund, or by companies like Aramco who are in turned owned by the government or the sovereign wealth fund. 4 out of the current top 5 are 75% owned by PIF. The 5th (Al Qadsiah) are owned by Aramco which is owned by the Saudi government (90%) and PIF (4%)

But yes, I hope PIF buys Casemiro for one of its teams.

That's how they roll in oil rich theocracies.

Madrid did us dirty twice in recent years. I wish I could say never again but knowing our board, it will happen again.

Get rid quick. He wouldn’t even make a Soccer Aid team.

Considering his age, wage and fee, he is one of our worst ever signings. Born out of pure panic. Only looked good for 6 months and that was probably because he had a Real Madrid pre season.

Can someone mention our other Brazilian as well? Casimero may need someone else even worse to look good down there.

I can't see anyone paying what it would take for us to break even from FFP perspective (which 2.5 years into his spell here would be around £25m) so we are probably looking at taking a loss here... not sure we can afford it.

Can Saudi buy off the club instead? We would get rid of all these penny pinchers who have no clue about football

At this point he just needs out and to free up money for a loan. Anyone mobile would be an improvement because he’s not even chipping in with goals anymore. Last night so many times second half we’d get around their box and he’d either cross it to Amad to compete for a header with Burn (brainless), shoot and miss or try a clever pass through a players legs which would then lead to us getting countered. I said it last season, he just doesn’t care and his head’s gone.

How does him leaving in January affect our PSR? It's not totally off the books till June right? Presume we could loan someone with the cash made from the sale

He is dire.
Fred had some shockers with his weight of passing but at least he was looking in the direction he was trying to pass to.
Casemiro just hits it straight to the opposition while looking away.
I wish he would just feck off out of our club.

Moving him on this winter feels too good to be true. I just can't see how anyone would watch last night's game and want him. Terrible.

Do we want him gone as soon as January? It won’t be one game a week given we’ve got Europa League games as well. We need a backup for Ugarte. If Collyer can cover and do decent, then fine.

It's only too good to be true if we actually receive any sort of fee for him, if we sell him for peanuts it does nothing for us.

I think he'd do well in a slower league with pacier and younger players around him. He's probably also bereft of confidence lately, and the pressures of the PL won't help that. Hopefully the Saudis feel the same

Good news. He was great for a small stretch with us but as has been the case recently, we got him far too late.

I'd be happy to see Collyer take his minutes at the moment to be honest if we are unable to sign the right player in January.bfree up that wage bill for the .. rebuild ..

We are paying him a fortune and getting nothing for it. A fee would be great, but I'm at the stage where the opportunity to move on almost any of our squad isn't a bad thing.

Maybe, but how can a multi CL winner be bereft of confidence? And if he is, how does that translate to the younger squad members.

I don't even want to think about how lacking in confidence we are, it's daunting to think about it. The only thing I will say is that his body language looked really down yesterday. You could see it in his eyes after his miss etc

Think of the clubs as franchises. The Saudi government/PIF buys players for them and then allocates them.

You'd be giving the manager even fewer options for the sake of freeing up wages that we can't even use until the summer anyway. I don't see the point in doing that, if we can get 10m for him or something and it lets us buy someone in Jan, then of course it's good, but otherwise I think we should keep him and he'll go in the summer anyway. You have to remember he was playing against a very good midfield yesterday, he could still be useful to rest others against lesser teams.

It's not about whether Collyer can cover, it's about the fact that he, Casemiro, cannot and at his wage that's not acceptable.

It is about if Collyer can cover because we need players for 2nd part of the season (league, Europa League, possibly but unlikely Fa Cup). Casemiro leaving in January is acceptable if we’re getting a fee imo.

I just don't think he's a realistic option anymore. Yes, last night was against a decent midfield, but when did he last play well for us? He's being paid a fortune and looks terrible.

I wish Casemiro had left in the summer, one good season and one bad season with two trophies would have saved his legacy a bit. This season he has really stunk the place out again and ultimately has been bad much more than he’s been good at this point.

I agree - I'm not sure he's capable of playing to the level required of a PL team. He really did look lost yesterday.
He might do better in a midfield 3 of Mainoo and Ugarte, but I'm not even sure about that.

If we can get a replacement then absolutely. No idea who that replacement would be as I imagine it will be dependent on the fee we receive for him.

Honestly I’d take whatever we can for Casemiro and I’d honestly play Collyer, Kone or even Tyler Fletcher in his place seeing as this season is a complete write off and Casemiro simply doesn’t have the legs at this level anymore and if he continues to play then we genuinely could be in a relegation battle.

Amorim has said that tactically it’s his way until the very end so recruitment wise we need someone to alternate with Mainoo and someone to alternate with Ugarte as that’s obviously how we’re going to play with Amorim’s midfield pairing, Casemiro can do neither anymore and nor can Eriksen either.

I’d like us to re-sign Angel Gomes to alternate with Mainoo or even sometimes as one of the 10’s and then bring in Hjulmand to alternate with Ugarte whilst the likes of Kone, the Fletcher’s, Collyer, Fitzgerald and McAllister are developed but we need to stop being a fecking graveyard or retirement home.

Casemiro is very useful when partnered correctly however not sure this new system suits him. Cash in providing a decent offer comes in.

It’s a pipe dream and bourne from Twitter reacting to last nights disasterclass from him. The Saudi clubs aren’t going to give us £20m for him and we need to recoup money to avoid it being an even bigger negative for PSR. We can’t just give him away. We are financially hampered by giving this donkey a huge contract and he will have to run it down for another season. Rashford and Garnacho are our only hope of pulling in funds to buy new players.

At this point just getting his wages of the books would be a win. His legs are gone and he simply needs to be surrounded by talent to function. It’s much easier to play midfield when you had prime Kroos and Modric to work with.
