Can a win be a loss? Poll | Hypothetical: United and Liverpool win, or Chelsea and Real Madrid win?

What would you prefer?

Chelsea/Madrid. Not because I hate Liverpool more than I love United, quite the opposite. I want us to be the most successful English team, and to do that we need to overtake their European cup wins.

Chelsea and Real win obviously. FA cup means jacksh*t compared to UCL

100% honestly, unapologetically Chelsea and Madrid. I'd fecking happily personally hand Gary Cahill the trophy to lift up as well. The FA Cup is inconsequential and you'll see just how unimportant it is if Liverpool beat Madrid. Just wait until you see the aftermath of Liverpool winning the Champions League.

I would a 100 percent chose option B-We both win nothing. We aren't a club desperate for a cup,we"ve won 3 in the last 3 years and we"ll pick up more in the future.Plus we won the FA Cup relatively recently,so it wouldn't be a disaster to lose the Cup final. But Liverpool winning the CL would be gut wrenching,it would be catastrophic...

It does sound a bit small time, but it definitely would be a massive blow if Liverpool won, as it'd absolutely ignite them, and put their Euro cups probably forever out of our reach.

Them losing would be yet another Klopp final failure though, which would be glorious.

While us winning a cup is important to our season, it's not as much so as it would be to Liverpool
I do fear their name is on the cup though, certainly looks that way.

Come on now! Do you really believe anybody would think that?

It's currently quite close matched on trophies as it stands, so how would them winning the biggest cup not swing things back their way?

Why does it even sound small time. Give me a break. Liverpool winning can't be countered by 4 FA cup wins

Because you're preferring another team to lose than your own to win.

We've accused Liverpool fans of this obsession for long enough!

Back in the 2004-5 season, was there a similar poll or dilemma?

Liverpool in the Champions League final versus AC Milan

United in the FA Cup final versus Arsenal..

Before those matches I was annoyed United were out of the CL, ironically also in the round of 16, and craving a league title after a bit of a drought. So the FA Cup was going to be a good end to the season. I didn't care about Liverpool being in the final as much as I wanted us to win.

After both matches I was more upset over losing on pens after dominating the game. Sure, it was annoying to see the Liverpool come back and win. But even now, looking back our loss hurts more than their win .

Seeing the overwhelming majority of the votes wanting both teams to lose as opposed to both winning, I'm curious - did you all feel the same back then?

What has changed since then for those that didn't care as much then versus now? Back then we hadn't yet had one of our most successful periods so I'd say it was more a time to be insecure as a United fan .

I don't get how any true supporter of the club would be happy to see us lose a cup final. What sort of fanbase do we have now?

It's the massive caveat that you're underplaying here - of Liverpool winning the much more coveted trophy!

Don't jinx it mate - us losing, and then Liverpool winning would be absolutely dreadful!

100 million percent. I would much rather us not win anything this season and see Liverpool win naff all as well. If we won the FA Cup and Liverpool won the CL. Urghhh. I just wouldn’t be able to handle it.

Haha so would it be as bad as both of us winning?

We can't always control another's success or failure. But if City and Liverpool and this season winning the most important trophies, I want to see a reaction from our players, manager and board. Not getting one would be harder than the actual wins .

Anyone saying Chelsea and Real Madrid wins is a virgin.

Whoever said they'd rather us both lose, get a grip. You moan all season about a misplaced pass and how obsessed Liverpool fans are, then you say you'd rather see Liverpool lose than us win.

Grow up.

Tbh, at the moment, I just want something to celebrate and get drunk on the weekend. Carpe diem or something along those lines.

Will think about them after.

Everyone calls rival fans small time for revelling in our failures rather than worrying about their own teams results. Seems like a lot of our supporters have that same mentality. Yes it would be unbearable for a while if they win the CL but it’s a chance for us to add an FA cup to boost our own reputation and confidence for next season. Also I wanna get pissed in a celebratory mood rather than after a loss

Exactly mate, so many RAWKish fans we have on this forum now. It's embarrassing. No one on here wants Liverpool to win (obviously) but to say you'd rather your own team lose is beyond ridiculous.
If Liverpool do win then they'll deserve it and hopefully it'll give us a kick up the backside and we can try to sort our team out for next season to challenge for a PL/CL again.
It doesn't matter about 'six times' or whatever they'll gloat about, I hardly think we'll ever catch Real Madrid in terms of CL trophies, we can't be top of every list. I can't wait until we win our 4th CL and I'll have a cigar waiting until we do.

These hypotheticals are silly. Talking about a scenario where we want our club to lose out on a trophy is sillier.

No one will be sitting there on cup final day not wanting us to win.

We win our trophy and then hope Liverpool don't win theirs. If they do, it’s nothing to do with us winning the FA Cup.

These deals with the devil that some are happy to take will never be offered.

In my mind, Liverpool have had their name on the trophy all season, can't see any other result than a Liverpool win in this one.

But I learnt long ago, that you cannot gauge your own season against the success or failure of your hated rivals.
Whatever they do is irrelevant to me nowadays, I only care about United's results, and it would be fantastic if we could manage to win the FA Cup.
I don't think we will win it though.

The bastards have started already.....

You believe Liverpool capable of beating one of the best and most experienced sides in Europe, but United unable to beat a side that finished 3 places below them in the league? Doesn't add up.

Ultimately depressing poll this.

Here’s a thought: if we want to one day beat Liverpool’s CL trophy count, we should start winning a few more fecking CLs. That may also work.

When you feel that a team 'has their name on a trophy' it makes no difference at all who they face, fortune is smiling on them.
I had the same feeling with Liverpool back in 2005, whatever happened I just 'knew' they would get a scrappy goal, or a penalty decision, something would go in their favour to turn a game that was looking beyond them.

I'd rather us win a trophy than not at all and we shouldn't care about what anyone else is doing.

No offense mate, but this isn't a fairytale.

Real Madrid will win the trophy because they are a vastly superior outfit. In order for Liverpool to win, they will have to perform above their usual standard and Real to perform below theirs. Nothing to do with divine intervention.

Thought long and hard about this but I just be ok with Liverpool winning the champions league. If cups were other way around then fine. Sad but that's the way it is.

Achievements are earned. If Liverpool win the cup then good luck to them. Wanting Manchester United to be the most successful team in the world by other teams losing is pathetic.
