So because we are far far away from the level we want to be at, let's bury our head in the sand when Liverpool win the CL?
No. It dosent work like that anyway. If we want to be successful we need to win things that what matters. We surpass them in the league because we start winning it our selves time and time.

We surpassed them because won won things and they stopped.

Always want us to win stuff first and foremost. I hate the scouse as much as anyone but forfeiting a trophy to deny them one is the very definition of small-time.

Im not being funny, but I wouldnt trust half the posters on here to choose me breakfast. The ability to choose doesn't mean choice is always superior. Far too many take for granted the ability to choose anything. Were it not for a great sacrice of many Englishmen and women, perhaps we wouldn't have that freedom.

Case in point. You're not actually a united fan if you don't care about winning and are more concerned about Liverpool losing. You may as well support every other club bar Liverpool.

You might find that tgeir fans are less annoying if you care less about their club.
Your views and opinions are void you shouldn’t even be allowed to post here! You said you want Liverpool to win the CL?! They are our biggest rivals period. How can any true Utd fan say they want them to win a CL trophy is beyond me.

I'd go with us winning along with the dippers. How does 6 times make any difference compared to 5 times?.

Winning the FA Cup isn't that big a deal for me but it would kill me to see them win another CL.

I am seriously hopefully Ronaldo scores a hattrick against them!

.

Well that's ridiculously daft to state here. How is it relevant to this thread?

5 times is easier to catch up to than 6 times?

6 times moves them to outright 3rd place?

The amount of United fans who would rather see their team lose to stop another team from winning is cringeworthy. Your job as a football fan is to support your club..full stop. All this talk of “6 CL’s for Liverpool is too much” is so small time. How can you call yourself a supporter is beyond me

You are first, uno and for most a MU supporter, so what MU win and I repeat what MU win will only concern us.

Our biggest rival, closest rival, or who ever timbaktu will have nothing to do with us.

If we are strong, powerful, we will win everything there is to win. we do not need to bother about others.

If we cannot do that, that means we are weak, not strong enough, not good enough or we are not there yet. The priority will be to make us strong, strengthen our squad or what ever mean to be the top team again. Then we beat the shit out of them. No envy, sour grape feeling is needed.

We need to grow, improve and be strong again.

Exatcly! If your a fan this should be your mentality. Wishing your team doesn’t win a trophy just so another team doesn’t win?! It’s bonkers

Everyone calls rival fans small time for revelling in our failures rather than worrying about their own teams results. Seems like a lot of our supporters have that same mentality. Yes it would be unbearable for a while if they win the CL but it’s a chance for us to add an FA cup to boost our own reputation and confidence for next season. Also I wanna get pissed in a celebratory mood rather than after a loss

I agree completely. The hypocrisy is ridiculous.

Both win nothing is the way to go. Liverpool winning the CL puts us behind by 3 CL's while another FA cup does nothing much to our cabinet. We seem to win 1 cl every decade and that would mean at least in theory 30 odd years before we catch up to Liverpool provided they do not win more in the meantime. Unless we go on a Madrid style run which seems unbelievable currently but you never know. I am leaning towards the best scenario where we win the FA Cup and Liverpool lose the CL.

Embarrassing

How any right minded United fan can even contemplate that lot winning the Champions League is beyond me.

Well it sucks we lost, but at least we didn't fluke a win we didn't deserve.

Jose needs to make some killer decisions this summer and cut the crap. The board have to get some serious money ready as we need a city style investment to really kick this time into life.

Because your a fan to support your OWN team. United is arguably the biggest team on the planet, yet there is this huge insecurity amongst united fans that if Liverpool win that means united is no longer a juggernaut. Anyone who would chose a United loss shows that their motivations for supporting the club are misguided.

Absolute top red stuff. United are nowhere near being the biggest team of club in the planet. Even arguably.

Remove your red tinted glasses. United are not a juggernaut and nor are Liverpool. However Liverpool are currently in the cl final and have a chance to win the 6th title and will have a better claim to be a bigger club than United at this moment.

If you have an issue with United fans not wanting Liverpool to win the cl then you need to take a hard look at yourself and your misguided views.

I'll take that Madrid win now, thank you very much.

Praying for Madrid to win. Pool winning it will scratch a very old wound that I have completely forgotten about.

I don't care about catching up at all because winning just another one seems really difficult for us.

Nonsense. It's not insecurity, it's rivalry.

The question posed was essentially 'would you rather United lost the FA Cup if it meant Liverpool lost the European Cup?'

Given our current position (do our performances this season really warrant it being classed as a 'successful' one?), the overall 'value' of the FA Cup + the number of times we've already won it and the fact that Liverpool are (in most people's eyes) our biggest rivals... then yeah, I'd go with that every time.

Of course I'd go with the United win, Liverpool loss - but that wasn't an option in the hypothesis.

I understand your point, however, my interpretation of this hypothetical situation was that alternatively, a Pool CL win = United FA cup win. So essentially people would rather United lose a guaranteed trophy just to stop Liverpool from also winning a trophy. That is the definition of small time in my opinion. Obviously nobody wants to see Liverpool win but if I am a United fan I'd care about the success of my OWN team first and foremost before the fortunes of any other team, even if said team is my closes rival.

A necessary sacrifice that had to be made. Karius took it upon himself to give us more than we could have ever imagined, bless him!

The hero we need and Pool deserve.

Hilarity aside, Liverpool losing tonight doesn’t excuse such a piss poor performance in the FA Cup final by Jose and the team. Apart from Calamity Karius, Liverpool did well against better opposition than Chelsea.

So I just checked the records. Not including this year final, Liverpool has lost 5 final games in the last 20 years.
They were:
- CL 2006/2007
- League Cup 2004/2005
- FA Cup 2011/2012
- Europa League 2015/2016
- League Cup 2015/2016

We won the same competitions the very next years, 4 out of 5 times. I would say we have 80% chance of winning the CL next year. So this is definitely a win

Interesting. Will start to arrange to go seeing CL final next season now :wenger:

Sacrifice complete. It's a good deal. Liverpool winning a sixth CL would have been unbearable. Instead, Klopp lost a sixth final.

In the words of DT:

0 trophies.

I like to believe in omens and all that.

Liverpool lost the Europa League. We won it the following year.

Liverpool lost the Champions League last night...

We can now turn Liverpool’s loss into a win.

Dont forget they lost league cup final too and then we won it next year
