Can a win be a loss? Poll | Hypothetical: United and Liverpool win, or Chelsea and Real Madrid win?

What would you prefer?

United's goal as a club for the recent future has to be becoming the undisputed greatest club in England. Liverpool winning and having twice as many European Cups would be a big blow to that, winning 1 FA Cup doesn't make up for it.

Rivals' successes are intertwined, that's how it's always been. Barcelona did the domestic double but their season can go from incredible to just good depending on if Madrid win the CL final or not.

You know what he means.

For me, i don't want liverpool winning the CL. I still want us be the best perfoming English club in that area so extending that target is not a good thing.

I dont see why we cant have best of both worlds ;)

Doesn't make any sense! You could throw in any hypothetical scenario in there.

Would you take two league title/Champions League doubles back to back then Liverpool and City dominating for 10 years after that??

We can only control our own destiny so anyone opting for a Chelsea victory in the FA Cup....shame on them!

Where is the United & Madrid option?

It's not like we can decide fate of two different competition. Why do we have to have these kind of thread asking hypothetical question?

Whilst I do care whether Liverpool win the UCL or not I care more about what we do so obviously I would take us winning the FA Cup even if it means they also win

To ascertain whether people care more about what Liverpool do than us, and frightingly it appears a lot do

That is such a flawed argument and we should be aiming to dominate both England AND Europe. Seeing Real Madrid win yet another CL is bad news. It really is a no-win situation though obviously I want the Dippers to get hammered. I won't be congratulating Real Madrid though either.

Can't/won't pick. I don't hate Liverpool but them winning the European cup would potentially have a much bigger impact on us than us winning the FA cup imo. I mean in terms of profile, player recruitment, confidence, sponsorships and finance etc. Might solidify them as a rival top four side (which is already congested as feck atm) and give them a platform for a title challenge for awhile again. That's outside of the rivarly between us and them pulling further ahead in terms of total CL wins.

I want to win the FA cup a lot obviously, but it's 'just' another domestic cup and a bit of a boost for the players here already by comparison. If you asked me on the weekend though I'd probably pick the FA cup for us but can get why people wouldn't.

The problem is caring about United and L'pool (negative way) is not mutual exclusive. And fate of the competitions are out of our hands to decide as I put it. Why not maintain the wish of wanting United win and L'pool to lose? What happens will happen.

In the grand scheme of things, we ought to be catching up to Liverpool in the CL wins. Them winning makes it harder.

A similar thread has been done in football forum as far as I'm concerned. Most seem to be inclined to Madrid option.

United and Liverpool

1. I don't know any Liverpool fans in person
2. I don't fellate the CL compared to other trophies. It's a cup competition with the music and weird fans claiming that it's the only trophy of importance
3. Winning a trophy adds some shine to the season
4. I dislike Liverpool. Not enough to deny our players a winners medal in 2018
5. 20 league titles bitch

Definitely Chelsea and Real Madrid. Liverpool will never have a better opportunity to win the CL. Look how long it's taken them to get to the final again whereas we can have another go at the FA Cup next season. In short we have a much better opportunity at winning FA Cup again before Liverpool winning the CL so definitely that option.

I think City are more likely to overhaul our European Cup total before we catch Liverpool’s tbh.

Chelsea and Real Madrid, we've won the FA Cup loads of times, as recently as 2 years ago, if that lot win the CL both them and the media lovefest will be more insufferable than ever.

I'd sacrifice the FA Cup in return for a Scouse loss, although I don't particularly like Real either but clearly the lesser of 2 evils

My decision is swayed by the fact that we won a few cups in last 2 years anyway and we got that 2nd place so the season isn't dependant on a cup win.

Also I still hope to catch Liverpool's Euro Cup haul and that's the only thing they still hold over us

Yeah, I'm the same for similar reasons. Plus the timings. Watching Liverpool get beat would ease the sting of an FA Cup Final defeat but watching them lift number 6 would immediately sour whatever buzz I got from beating Chelsea and finish the season on a real downer. Plus I'm a very very bitter person.

It's choosing between short term or long term succes.
Winning the FA cup would be nice but Liverpool winning the CL could put something in motion that could potentially hurt us in the long run, for example it would make them more attractive for big players or bigger sponsors. We've won the FA cup two years ago and it definitely wouldn't be strange if we win it again in the coming years, but Liverpool winning a CL is something rare.

So Chelsea and Madrid for me, because in the end it's better for United.

I'll take Chelsea and Madrid all day long.

Can't bear Pool winning it and don't mind United being trophyless at the expense of the FA cup.

The added advantage being that it gives one less reason for Jose to be cocky and all the more reason to get us improved a hell lot next season.

He got the Europa exit to save the season last time around. Not with the FA cup, no way sir.

Before I am hounded, sure I'd like us to win, but losing might not be the worst thing in the world with a egotist like Jose incharge who you know would spin it as a success of some sorts. Fair to say I dont have too much love for the FA cup I guess.

Hypothetically if it lets us be hungrier next season, I'd gladly ditch the FA cup while killing the scouse dreams along the way

United for the FA Cup and i just couldn't care less about any other team.

I don't get how any true supporter of the club would be happy to see us lose a cup final. What sort of fanbase do we have now?

Not another one of these threads connecting something that doesn't need to be

United win. Don't understand why this is even a question.
Because like it or not, liverpool winning the CL impacts us directly (past fan feelings). More money for them, more fame for them, bigger draw for players, all things that make them stronger long term and hurts us with us then being viewed as arguably 3rd most desirable team to go to. Right now, it's obviously City top and United 2nd. Liverpool win the CL and that changes.

In one case we are bitter winners, while in the other case we bitterly lose. It's fairly easy to pick the correct answer.

I know what youre saying but the OPs point (i think) is that is a good question (i.e for a debate) and its topical (i.e. as we're both in cup finals).

Everybody want us to win and doesn't want Liverpool to win. To ask the question in the OP is just the same as asking do you hate Liverpool more than you love United, which is a stupid question. I will however say that since the CL is such a big cup compared to the FA cup, it would cloud our achievement in that tournament for sure. But hope most of us want to win it regardless, unless you really care about Liverpool more than us.

I’m not sure but I’m leaning towards Madrid and Chelsea option.

Can barely stand my Pool supporting mates and their current love in for all things Klopp....imagine they lift ol big ears. It would be unbearable.

Not that I like Madrid much more than the Scouse, tbf.

Rivalry is such an important thing in football so for those would pick a United win without hesitation, it's not matter of hating Liverpool more than loving United. It's about where we stand as a club and we can't just see ourselves in isolation. If Liverpool win, they will come close to us as the most successful club in England, perhaps overtaking us in the minds of many.

But we could win the FA Cup and Liverpool lose the CL. They're not connected in any way. Yeah, I can see what the OP is trying to do but it's still a silly question. It would have made more sense if he did a poll with the following question:

What would give United fans the most joy at the end of the season:
a: United winning the FA Cup
b: Liverpool losing the Champions League final

Come on now! Do you really believe anybody would think that?

Should make this a poll and just find out who needs banning.

Mental if you pick an option where United doesn't win a cup.

Literally better describing yourself as a Liverpool hater rather than a United supporter.

Chelsea and Real Madrid win all day long. I'd in fact take us losing 10-0 to Chelsea this weekend if it means Liverpool are going to lose the week after.
