Sky's CL coverage was outstanding, so BT have a lot to live up to

But I've generally been impressed with their PL coverage, also I get their HD channels to I'm ok with this

Delighted itv no longer have any rights. They were awful
They were, but at the same time if gave those who couldn't afford Sky TV a chance to watch high level football, it's a shame in that sense.
I know BT Sports are showing free games but it won't be the ones everyone wants to see (I'd imagine)

Do all BT Broadband customers get free BT Sports?
I think so? I think if you're a new customer at least you get it for 12/24 months.

Edit: just went on the website and it says £5 a month with BT broadband so im not sure if the offer is still on, im sure it used to be.

It was definitely just the 6, although having thought about it, in recent years they split the round of 16 into 4 weeks so it would have been 17 games on ITV as opposed to a minimum of 12 on BT.

I'm taking a guess that the minimum of 12 is because they'll show one of each group stage match day. Then depending how well the English teams do, more or less of the knockouts.

It did, but not from next season.

So if I have BT Sport free with broadband I'll continue to get BT Sports 1 and 2 free (for now) but it'll cost me £5 a month to get the Champions League games, is that right? It's not as bad as I was expecting, firstly because a fiver a month is less than I thought they would charge and also because 12 games free-to-air is more than I thought they would show. Obviously the 12 games won't be the best of the bunch, but it'll be something. BT Sport's always been pretty shit for me online anyway, I usually just resort to my usual dodgy streaming method in the end.

ITV weren't too bad. I mean Chiles and Townsend aside. Some of my best memories supporting United were broadcast on ITV.

No i think if you're a BT customer with broadband and have BT Sports or have BT Sports via Virgin Media, you get the BT Sport Europe channel free, i.e. all champions league and europa league games. It's only people who have BT via a Sky subscription who have to pay £5 a month extra.

Then people who only have freeview get the 12 matches free.

Well that's what BT said when we spoke to them on the phone.

But if it's just broadband you've got and you've not negotiated some special deal then, from what I can see from their subscriptions, you won't have it free next season.

I'd imagine they would have to show at least the same amount itv did for each stage of the tournament. Hopefully there'll be at least one English team per game week shown but it'll be rotated in line with the shittiest opposition, or they'll just show City games.

I refuse to pay any more than I already do for Telly, my subs are already £65+ a month. I will stream this bollocks or go the pub. cnuts.

BT have done a really good job of confusing people about what's free and what isn't, I just renewed with them so I've been reading up on what I actually get.

The only way you will get all of the sports free is if you are a BT Broadband customer and you subscribe to BT TV, which for next season does offer a free monthly sub that includes the BT Sport package (£35 activation fee).

If you are a BT broadband customer who previously had it for free, that's ending regardless of when you renewed BT Sport, from August its £5 a month to watch it via Sky, the BT Sport website or the BT Sport app. They will offer a free option to broadband customers that is limited to BT Sport 1, so you get the Premier League games but none of the CL games other than the 12 they will show everyone for free on a digital channel called BT Sport Showcase.

They just gave it to me free for another year for renewing my BT Broadband (I'm on option 3 or whatever they call their unlimited package now).

I have BT Sport through Sky, no BT broadband. So I have to pay an extra £5 a month to watch Champions League? Seriously?

Where is that on their website?

If I have to fork out more money for the same content I had this season I'll be well pissed off

I don't think they have announced the pricing changes for non-BT customers yet. I think its almost guaranteed you will have to pay more to see the CL football though.

I'm tempted to disable the swearing filter in reply to that last part.

Complete rip off if true. Screw anti-competition laws, give me Sky with exclusive coverage of everything and one (overall cheaper) subscription any day. It's the consumer who's gets screwed over by these things. Makes me really

This is what happens when the government get involved in things that should be none of their business. The moment they announced that they wouldn't allow Sky to buy all the packages for the PL a few years back in order to "foster competition" the viewers were always going to get screwed over and have to buy multiple subscriptions.

Especially when you consider how rubbish the coverage on BT Sports is. I streamed some of the matches last season and was glad I didn't bother paying for it.

It was obvious they would have to charge extra for it, they put in an absolutely ridiculous bid for their coverage. Something like £900m for three years, compared to the previous three year deal which was £400m. Sky had been willing to go up to £500m but weren't prepared to match BT's offer. Problem with being so desperate to get

Isn't it going to be like over £20 a month to sign up for BT as I'm a Sky subscriber and don't have BT Broadband? A bit ridiculous because apart from CL football I won't watch anything on that channel.

It's £13.50 a month atm, £18.50 if they lob on another £5 for the privilege of watching champions league. Plus there's a £15 activation fee when you subscribe, as Sky want to make it difficult for people to get BT

Daylight robbery for what you're getting.

Oh and will Sky Sports drop their price now that they've got no more Champions League football to offer? Like hell!

Hmm, what is BT TV? Do you pay for that?

BT TV is another platform like sky and Virgin

If you have BT TV you can't get sky sports 3-5 or f1 though

Ridiculous how this was supposed to make it more fair to consumer but it has screwed us completely

I wish there was an online streaming service, £150 a year for all premier league games/Europe games and nothing else would suit me

It's basically a freeview box from what I gather, you need an aerial for the normal channels and the BT Sports comes via internet, I think that's how it works anyway. The recommendation appears to be wait until nearer August as they have some newer boxes coming out for the 4K content and what not.

But if you already have BT Broadband you can get BT TV on the free sub (with the one off £35 fee) and receive all the sports for next season (they will again almost certainly start charging for it after next season). It's a decent option for this season anyway, I'm considering it even though I'll only use it for CL stuff.

I think there is a basic box, which you can pause. However if you want to be able to record stuff then there is another box. My mum had one for a while, but it kept crashing. It was a bloody nuisance. I presume the technology is better now.

I think I tried to get BT TV but was told my internet wasn't fast enough. (I disagree since all internet video services load instantly for me, but whatever).

What I dont understand though is why BT have BT Sports on freeview (encrypted) if they arent sent through the BT TV anyway? Surely BT TV gets the Sports channels through the Encrypted Freeview, and the other non-freeview ones through the internet?

I haven't found a decent source that explains how it works, BT's website is pretty shocking and their forums appear to be full of useless info. It pretty much sums them up to be honest, they have so many bolt on options they just end up confusing the customer.

You have heard of Google I take it?

It's the BT infinity thing where you get broadband TV and phone

I wish you could just have broadband and sports

I don't want 800 shit channels or a phone line

The only way to get it free, for now at least is to take BT television as well as the broadband. As I have freeview, Sky and a Smart TV why would I want to take that as well? I could reduce my Sky right down to basic, but then would have to do piles of add on for BT to get kids channels. It is doing my head in. I will probably just get rid of Sky HD and BT HD and the boxsets to cover the cost of the CL and Europa League coverage.

My god is that true, I've tried half a dozen times to get my head around BT TV to see how it works and whether I should bother, I've still never managed to figure it out.

I want a streaming site that works all the time and no need to search for streams, just open up the app and watch in high quality uninterrupted
I use 2, both cheap, both work flawlessly but I am looking in to something different this season, I can't comment on the quality until I have bought it yet but it's.....promising.

It basically comes down to BT going head to head with Sky and yet again it's the customer that loses.
