I don't think that he looks any different to the way he generally looks. He has given us a fair amount of atrocious performances that miraculously ended with an assist or a goal which made everyone forget the entirety of his performance.

Pretty much the same applies to another of our so call star player of the team. We will never be able to play cohesive football with these players.

We have a midfielder in the team that basically guarantees he'll give the ball back to the opposition 50% of the time he has it.

I'm at the point I'd drop him and give Mount a run at number 10.

We just cannot control a game or sustains attacks with him losing the ball every 5 seconds.

Terrible tonight Bruno. Had one or two good short exchanges in the second half but mostly awful.
Him and Case seem to be having a competition on who can spray the most unnecessary long passes each game.

Highlight for me was his hail mary shot that was followed by him moaning to his teammates. Some captain.

Noticeable absence of the snobbery and name-calling from the likes of Pogue tonight of course.

We've been starved of the really elite talents for years now, so we've built up Bruno and Rashford to be players they just aren't. They're both good players, but they're below the elite. But, us being us, have made them our star players and go-to players for goals.

Even when both are on form - stats wise - they have far too many deficiencies to their game. A better team could carry/accommodate them, but when you're asking them to be your star players, you're asking for trouble.

From the starting eleven, he was the less bad on that midfield. Casemiro and Mount failed more passes and botched more game plays than Bruno. It didn't help that Bruno has to basically fill all the gaps all over the field, almost never in his real position.

The whole team had a bad day. So many clumsy plays and lose balls. And everything that could go wrong, did go wrong (except Icardi's failed penalty).
Onana made the team even more nervous, with so many bad defenses and passes. Casemiro made a really dumb move with that penalty. No chance to get the ball, why just give them a penalty and leave the team with one less man?

Nice defensive work by Bruno in that last minute. And nice pass right after. It deserved something more. But Dalot was also having one of those days...

I just think the we lack a solid defense tactic/plan. Something that I think that has always been one of the dutch school weaknesses.

For years, we've tried to buy players on the pitch around them without realising that it is these two that need immediate upgrading. Maddison is twice the player and was available this summer. Nah, captain Bruno will stay here till his mid-thirties and deliver one key pass per game and get applauded by a couple drooling fans.

ETH has made a rod for his own back by giving Bruno the captaincy, granted I'm not sure who you'd give it to instead - the options are either injury or suspension-prone, but I don't think Bruno is the right choice

Mount failed more passes and ruined more game plays than Bruno? Are you taking the piss?

Come on, that's a low blow.:nono:

Needs to be pointed out. Because next week we’ll all be crazy and ‘idiots not worth listening’ and the rest of it, so how about you come and debate with us now? It will never be after performances like this, where it won’t be too difficult to understand where we come from, but give it a few days and everyone’s an idiot again.

No they didn't. Bruno lost possession 27 times, Casemiro 16 times and Mount 10 times

Because Mount is Ten Hags boy and he has to prove that he has not just spent 60mil on another turnip like Anthony.

Mount is quite clearly a much better fit for the midfield than whatever Bruno is playing at the moment. He has played in the middle for 7 games this season, and has been mediocre to awful in every single one.

Nearly every player on the pitch does that. Essentially nobody is capable of hanging onto the ball and passing it well at this point.

Where's statman Dave with the Magnifico twitter post?

They can't do that because you have Bruno playing hero ball, and not building up play. He is literally a huge flaw and a liability in any attempt to control the game by possession.

That has nothing to do with it, I watched Dalot hand the ball back to the other team while progressing up the pitch countless times in the last few weeks, among others. Everyone is at it. The consistency of our passing is atrocious.

This is such a good summation of things, I'm bookmarking it.

Have the manager bench another captain then.

We go through captains like Spinal Tap go through drummers.

I don't understand what was his role tonight. I quite like him on the right, he gets opportunities to create, can cross or even cut inside. He also gets opportunity to keep it simple when it's going bad. This is all fine. But why is he drifting so much inside? We already had 2 players in the middle trying to get forward and Casemiro (another one role I don't understand).
Not a fan of this setup.

To be so maverick so often you have to imagine he's not following team instructions. Turning the ball over 27 times is incredible.

It's liability beyond belief.

He was indefensibly bad tonight. I'm largely pretty positive about him but everything he could do wrong tonight he did. I think everyone gets the criticism and the wariness of him, or at least they should by now. I still think theres a middle ground where you get good use of him despite his weaknesses. At least for the time being.

Why does Bruno have to be played out of position?

Why should he be the one that has to move over for Mount?
I presume the theory is that Mount playing in the middle will help us more with control and possession, rather than Bruno constantly giving the ball away. Bruno doing it from the wing will be losing it in less dangerous positions.

Whether it's working or not is another matter.

Managers tactics. Trying to squeeze all his big name players in, no matter what.

Just like ETH did with the midfield diamond V Brighton. Made up a system to accommodate everyone, rather than trusting Pallestri to play out right.

In terms of players, they have to be go back to basics and the mentality and character needs resurrecting.

Bruno has had decent goals+assists since he came, he comes across as quite passionate and I actually do think he cares.

But I think in terms of players, he's our biggest problem. I've never seen a player lose their head when things go against him like that. He's throwing tantrums, booting the ball out of play, slating his teammates. You saw him with Dalot tonight/pushing the linesman in that Liverpool face.

His position has never been in question. But I think it's time, he's been the leader over the last couple of years and he's obviously a terrible leader. Rashford has got a lot of criticism recently and justifiably so. But to squeeze out the poison that's running though this club, I think we start with Bruno.
