I still don't remember a single big game he influenced for us. Pointless in such games.

It’s not McTominay’s fault Bruno got moved back. He hasn’t been producing the goods, it just shows how bad the squad is and how little production Bruno has had when he’s challenging for position with McTominay and McTominay is delivering more. And why oh why does he still take free kicks, I can’t remember a good one.
He has talent but it’s just not working.

I was getting dragged this morning for implying he's not as gutbusting as people believe. He runs, that's it, consistently at an impressive pace but without real urgency, never quite getting there, chasing rather than anticipating. He was playing deeper which admittedly doesn't suit him but I saw nothing tonight, I recall one attempted tackle in the first half that resulted in a foul, a few wayward pot shots, a good chance on goal blasted into Victoria warehouse, some poor set pieces, a few decent passes, some rolling around on the ground, a half arsed attempt at a challenge in the build up to their goal. If you're happy with this standard then enjoy, I'm not, we need better.

He’s being asked to play a game that’s not his game. he needs protection behind him and have a free role in the middle creating. Two solid dms behind him would make the world of difference

Another big game with no Magnifico tweet. What good are the stats if the moments a rarely ever produced in big games.

If you're giving him a free role in the middle to create whenever and do as he pleases, we're left with the exact same problem as we have now. He just isn't very good against good opponents, and has proven it time and time again. Can't dribble, can't protect the ball, can't drive with the ball and needs a lot of space to be at his best. That may work against Burnley and Everton, but it won't against the best teams.

We’re not. At the moment we have mctominay far too high and Bruno having to do all the tracking back and run around like a headless chicken. leaving a gaping hole in the middle.

2 solid dms would free Bruno up in front of them to Atleast find our attackers to maybe have a shot on goal

I thought he played well to be honest.

I thought he was terrible and didnt create any real chance.
Problem is I dont really blame him. The idea of playing him as an 8 when we have Mainoo just to shoehorn in McT is the big issue.
Bruno in the 10 with two midfielders behind him is like a completely different player to Bruno playing as an 8 with defensive responsebility.
Really dont get why Ten Hag keeps doing it.

Let Bruno focus on what he is good at and at the same time add stability to our midfield.
Yes McT is the only one that scores at the moment, but that is more about how terrible our setup is than anything else. His goals shouldnt be enough to cripple the rest of the team. Especially when Mainoo is so good.

What happened to him being a threat from distance? Used to hit them so much better...

Really like Bruno but he's been terrible lately and Mount/Eriksen should both have come in for him if they were fit.

By “used to” do you mean the most recent CL game before this one?

Kimmich ballooned an even easier chance over the bar in the second half. It happens. But obviously, because of all the toxicity around Bruno in our fan base a very low % chance is the Worst. Miss. Ever.

What pisses me off the most is when Bayern scored that goal, if you focus on Bruno, he was raving his arm about complaining like a spoilt brat who just threw his toys out of the pram. And he is supposed to be our captain???

He scored a penalty against Copenhagen in the CL game before last night. Our captain! This is getting embarrassing. You'd clap and congratulate Bruno if you caught him with your missus.

Bruno's miss was an actual chance. How you can claim Kimmich's miss was an easier chance is beyond me. Bruno's problem is that he has a shit finishing technique when he receives the ball like that, because he leans backwards which makes him sky the ball every single time. Terrible shooting technique.

Didnt he score an absolute screamer against Gala?

He did, and then he missed some absolute sitters last season, and then some awful shots every game this season. He can score a great goal every now and then, but his shooting technique is really trash.

Bruno is quickly moving into the realms of late stage Rooney for me. A player with a lot of quality in a team that doesn't have a lot but his quality comes at the immense cost of the team struggling to have any control of games. Its hard to move players on like this because they win you lots of games. The problem is, winning games like that isn't sustainable. KdB wins City a lot of games but he is also a team player and knows when to stick and when to twist.

Bruno last night was abject for so much of it and when hes abject we give the ball away with comical easy and frequency.

I like Bruno and at times he is our best player but to progress in terms of playing better as a team he should not be in the starting 11. He has been the focal point for too long. We should play 2 traditional midfielders and a 10 who is better in retaining possession and keeping the ball moving.

Hes a player that always affects games for better or worse. When hes on form and the players around him are playing well then he looks excellent and is worth the wastefulness. When he isn't on form or other players are wasteful in front of goal he brings the whole team down.

You rarely have control of a game with Bruno. The control he can sometimes give you is in allowing you to score goals and control the game that way. He rarely gives you any control in tight games or where you need to calm things down or steady a ship. The whole team has to revolve around his play style.

Kimmich offers a hell of a lot more than an attacking midfielder who is perceived to specialise around that area of the pitch.

Yes it was a low percentage chance, but if the player is also making that decision every time he is in that position, then you've contradicted your own point.

He's a whiney little bitch and I can't wait to see the back of him. He's a big part of our inability to control games. Throw all the stats at me you want, he doesn't get in any top 6 teams starting lineup. Yeah he'll score a worldy or pop up with an assist every few games but he's largely wasteful from open play with both passing and shooting and how he is allowed to stand over every freekick when he's scored about 5 in his life is a mystery. He would be one of the first three out the door for me.

Still a lot better than Hojlund's shooting technique.

It'll be interesting to see what impact him not playing will have on the team on Sunday. Particularly in the attacking third. Maybe every corner Utd get won't turn into a counter attack.

Will we see better ball retention?

Will we see a different more measured attacking approach?

Or will we be pining Bruno to play some through balls and spammed forward passes.

I swear every time he is on camera this happens to be honest. I'm kind of split on it, he's a competitor and wants to win everything but it is bloody annoying to watch.

Not the best game to judge any impact on our team considering our injury crisis and lack of options.

I fear we might lose by 6-7 again and everyone will say look how poor we are without Bruno.

We need a sustained Bruno less period to see if we really improve. It has never happened before ever since he was signed.

Before Saturday Bruno was on his best run of form since April, but I don’t think he will be a miss against Liverpool in that we will probably get beaten heavily as we would have if he played.

Also a game with a big chance to draw false conclusions. Whether Brunos absence will improve us or not is a difficult beast. I think if the plan would have been to play Ole ball then it is safe to say that we are going to miss him a lot. If the plan would be to approach the game like the Bayern game, reserved, then he probably isn't that much of a miss. Bruno can be the difference maker and in a big game, that is always good to be able to make use of. Especially if the team itself looks flat due to form.
I really hope we are not trying to engage Liverpool with a high press...

The stats aren't even good anymore
Fixed.

5G 5A in 2025 minutes played in all comps. 202 minutes per G/A. That’s distinctly average.

In fact, the decline has been gradual. Since his 18 months when he registered a truly elite 100 min per G/A, in 21/22 it was 161 min and 191 min last season. He’s still one of the most productive player in the team but that’s an indictment of our attacking prowess in and of itself.

I think his stats overall are actually very impressive still, as in key passes, big chances created etc,

The downturn in assists is definitely contributed by the lack of anything resembling a goal scorer in the team.

With Bruno suspended who's the caf going to lay all the blame at when we lose a game against a far better team?

I reckon this thread will still probably get bumped at full time. "He should've been there even though I don't rate him!!!"

Surely Mount must have been brought in to be Bruno's replacement.

Why?
He was clearly brought in to be a more mobile Eriksen, and play alongside Casemiro and Bruno.

The experiment lasted about 3 games before we realised it utterly didn't work.

To think we're lining up at Anfield without all 4 of these players is a bit worrying though.
