Television Breaking Bad

I haven't read this thread since the new episode last night but I am mildly disappointed that
Hank twigging on to Walt being Heisenberg came to a head so quickly. I'd have liked to see Hank's suspicions and the unspoken unease between the two explored a bit more. Instead Hank finds out and punches Walt. Although of course it's set up intriguingly going forward, I felt there might have been more room to draw that situation out more.

Gilligan said there initial plan was to have it play out a bit and have Walt find out about midway through the season, but he said they have so much stuff left to tell that they had no option but to blow it out the water early on.

Yep. It doesn't really tally with the feck off automatic machine gun in the back of his car does it?

Like you say, it sort of seems like the actions of someone planning one last desperate act and with no intention of being taken alive.

Vince Gilligan has gone on record saying that the ending will be something that Walt sees as a victory. From that moment I was convinced Walt will die in the end, and to me the ricin is the final nail in the coffin so to speak. Waltenburg is planning a grand finale of sorts, the M60 is evidence of that much, whether it's with the DEA, the Cartel, or possibly even someone from Europe (Madrigal/their Czech contacts maybe?), and now the ricin gives him the backup option so he never has to see prison; he's far too proud to be made a common prisoner, whereas whatever carnage he has in mind allows him to be a martyr of sorts to his grand creation.

It's almost the sort of arrogance seen with some serial killers; he has a name now that will be remembered forever.

I think that really depends on what is to come. If there is a lot to get through in 7 episodes then I can see why they sorted that whole Hank realization nice and early. By the looks of the house and the state it is in, it would seem that a lot of shit went down

Yeah, the whole cat and mouse thingy would have made sense if Hank discovered that book at the end of season 4. The writers, with the few episodes left, couldn't really drag that on. I think they did well

It's pointless guessing what's going to happen. Don't think any of us could have predicted the Hank - Walt confrontation coming at the end of just the first episode. If they played that card this early, I can't wait to see what sort of shit they have saved up!

It's good fun trying though!

The first and last scenes were incredible.

Jessie's *sob sob boo hoo* shit is annoying though. He needs to start saying "Yeah bitch" again, that was him at his best.

True that.

Seriously though, the opening scene, fecking hell. It basically encompassed everything great about this show, and then, then the fecking last scene did too.

I don't think I've showed a show where there's been such a big character progression as in Breaking Bad with Mr White. At times he really is fecking scary and at times he seems like this very sick old man.

Thought I was on my own with this. It seems very artificial in comparison to how he can act and stands out a mile from the rest of the cast for me. He is a great actor but I just don't think he plays this well at all.

I was so into the opening scene. Absolute quality

I thought the scene where he was pleading with the homeless guy to take the money was fantastic acting. His face had a longing to it almost, as if he were lost and he were reaching out for some shred of redemption. On the storyline itself though, Jesse feels somewhat sidelined. He's such a dynamite character when he's in the mix that I hope they bring him back into the fold as soon as possible.

I'm sure they won't mess it up since the whole series has been superb up until now and I doubt they'd go wrong with the ending, but if there is a final grand finale as you say then I hope it's not too over the top Scarface style. This series can take outlandish events and make them work and seem realistic enough, but I don't want to see anything too ridiculous here. Sure we won't though, since they don't tend to mess it up at all on this show.

I've watched the last scene 4 times know its absolutely brilliant, for me it's one of the best scenes from the whole show. I think the guy playing Hank does a great job, his face and expressions are that of a man who's completely shocked and stunned by the whole thing, he really makes the scene for me.

I've tried watching Dexter afterwards but it just completely dog shite in comparison I've had to turn it off for now.

Just had to rewatch a few scenes that I didn't quite catch this morning due to noisy cnuts.

I assume that Walt left Todd in charge of the business? Lydia mentions the quality is at 68% and dropping. Ooh, that's not gonna go down well at all.

I made the same mistake, hopefully next week I'll remember it and watch Dexter first.

Whatever happened to the fellas they sold the methalmyne (spellcheck?) to in Say My Name?

methylamine

I think Jesse acting like he is will just be a prelude to him going all badass. On who, I'm not sure (probably Walt), but he can't spend the next 7 episodes feeling sorry for himself and throwing money away

Managed to stay away from this thread all day, I've finally been able to watch the episode, fecking hell it was brilliant. "Tread lightly" goes right up there in the Pantheon of badass quotes of the show, but the whole episode was full of great stuff, from the superb opening scene, to the discussion between Jesse and Walt (and how easily he lies) to the final confrontation. Gonna be hard to wait for another week.

Jesse Plumens is listed in the opening credits so Todd will be in it anyway.

I hope he does something.

I'm not even criticising his acting like KE (personally I think he's pretty feckin good) but his character is just stuck in that rut that's been all too familiar over the last few seasons.

I remember when he stood up to Gus in 'Half Measures'. I hope he gets a scene like that again with Walt. I think he will.

I did that too and found myself thinking: "Hank wouldn't consider Quinn for promotion, he'd beat the shit out of him for being such an awful cop."

I think he's amazing in general, to be fair. The way he was visibly shitting himself in Walt's presence in the episode before this one...fantastic.

Jesse!

I've just found a hilarious thing to do now that whatsapp has a voice message feature is to shout "Jessie!!!" into it as loud as possible and send it to fellow BB fans.

At least 5 episodes could have been fitted into the events of the last (half) season and the end of this episode. And last (half) season could have easily been an extra 5 episodes long.

So many American shows have such crap filler episodes, can't they just pass their budget onto HBO?

True. I don't know how the hell they're going to do all this in 7 episodes, though...

I sort of want Walt to go full on Gus and really push on with his empire business, but to get to that point and then end up where he is going to in just 7 episodes seems a push. Still, with those funds he can do pretty much whatever the feck he likes now. The writers are surely going to have serious plans for that sort of of cash.

This is AMC, not HBO. Hence the lack of tits, and uh ... The big AMC logo on the bottom right.

I keep thinking about that moment in season 1/2, when Walt made that explosive look like Meth, before letting all hell break loose. I'm expecting a similar ending to the show.

Ah! I knew this. I just watched True Blood so this might have confused me.

They probably have a budget of one "feck" per season because it has definitely been used at least once.

When I first started watching it, it really annoyed me. "What the hell, man". "Screw you". Who says that? It's still totally unrealistic but you just get used to it.

Weirdly, I have seen 'feck' on netflix, once.

When Jesse says "Get the feck out and never come back", Gretchen says "I feel so sorry for you Walt......." "feck. You." they were both censored. When was the other feck? The stream links I had had everything censored.

I knew there were parts missing from their pilot, and I found out that Netflix's version was a different one. She hasn't got her chebs out when Jesse jumps out of the window. Walt doesn't get his handy, and he doesn't get seen at the car wash by a student.
