Television Breaking Bad

Yeah I agree with you, it's plausible I suppose, I just feel it's a bit 'easy'. I'm sure Hank could've arrived to the conclusion some other way. Anyway...

Oh concerning the poison, I think Saul did it. It's very strongly hinted at the beginning of season 5, if I recall correctly.
Yeah it was too easy, especially for a show that doesn't take the easy route. Still, can't wait to see the final season.

If you go back to page 13, the theory was discussed near the end of season 4.

Page 13! You guys were on the end of season 4 40 pages ago, I bet you all had withdrawal symptoms between the seasons. I've only got a couple of weeks to wait, and it feels like loads, so I can barely imagine.

The introduction of Saul into this show is a turning into point, he really is a superb character.

4 days left is one of the best episodes in the entire series.

Definitely. Odenkirk is mostly great in everything. He really added something completely different to the show and it's current characters.

It's interesting just how many characters were casted to be short-lived, but ended up being regulars as they worked so well. Saul and Jesse being the main two. Can't imagine the show without them!

rewatching some of the earlier episodes and Skylar really is an insufferable pain from day 1.
She and her sister are both such sanctimonious twats.

Also Hank. What an absolute cock he is.

Just everything she does is annoying. Not a single redeeming feature. How the hell Walt - the intelligent, seemingly liberal-minded, laid-back dude - ever got together with her is simply incomprehensible.

I must say I quite like Skylar.

I was having a debate with some friends the other day about who was the best 'boss' wife' between Skylar White, Carmella Soprano and Margaret Shroeder. Personally, I think Shroeder is the best, but everyone else went with Skylar.

I like Hank, he never really does that much wrong when you put it in to context. He does initially bully Walt a bit but it just seems like a laugh and he does like him, hence the offer for the ride along etc. I think the only thing I can imagine people see him as being out of order on is when he beats up Jesse but even then he has his reasons.

I'm not a big fan of Skylar and Marie I agree, although I do think they're needed for the show, it's similar to Carmela in the Sopranos I find, she is really annoying but they help develop the main characters. In Marie's case it shows Hanks human side out of work and how he does care about people.

Yeah he was very frustrating during those episodes with his fecking roc... minerals collection and his attitude towards Marie. But it was pretty understandable from his point of view, and honestly even the annoying characters you can usually completely rationalize their behaviour, no one is black or white.

Yeah I agree.

I don't like Skyler either but from her point of view her actions are quite understandable. An unplanned pregnancy, a mentally ill son, a husband who has cancer and starts behaving very strangely all the while lying to her and then finding out he's a drug dealer.

Hank is a complete cock to Marie when he's injured

It's understandable really. In the show he is portrayed in everything he does, work and personal life, as in charge and as a strong character. All that got taken away from him and he became reliant on people. Furthermore you're bound to be depressed if that happened to you, by the time he can walk again and he gets something in his life, whether it be the rock collection or when they have Hank Jr and the baby (can't remember their name) he is much more positive.

She just plays it well, I think. It's the bitchiness of her character that really pisses the audience off but that's obviously how she's been told to play the role.

An obvious comparison to make is with someone like Carmela Soprano, but Skyler's a hell of a lot more vindictive. It's behaviour that's more consistent with her life situation but she is a lot more dislikeable than Carmela - someone who no doubt has a lot worse to put up with. I think Skyler's turmoil is understandable, but how it was expressed, less so.

I'd forgotten how powerful the scene where Walt let's Jane die was. Absolutely gripping.

The second half of season 2 really is superb.

Amazing isn't it. On my second run I rewatched that scene about five times. It's like the whole process of Season 1 Walt to Season 5 Heisenberg in 30 seconds. Instant reaction to save her life. Then pauses. "Maybe I shouldn't." Then knows exactly what to do. "She has to die." Amazing.

When you look at it all, who's really been happy through this? Walt hasn't been happy. He's getting his way, but it's the best of a bad situation. Skyler's hardly been happy for a full episode. Marie's had to deal with Hank and Hank had to deal with Marie. Jesse lost Jane, his friend, everything (think to his "It's all gone" speech).

I've also been thinking that Mike's a bit of an arsehole. We all like him at first; he's really cool and gets people out of trouble. But at no point is he remotely nice. He does his job in the most methodical way possible, showing no emotion to anyone. He'd have happily killed Walt on several occasions.

I actually quite liked Mike. He didn't always appear nice, but he seemed to at least care for Jesse a tad in season 4 as they started to work together more and more. You could tell as well in S5 that he didn't want to kill the woman with the child at first (forget her name) who eventually helped them, even if he then changed his mind. Struck me as a loyal guy as well at the very least

Yeah, barring that little bit of affection for Jesse he was pretty much a complete sociopath.

He didn't give a shit about Jesse; that's the thing. Walt genuinely did/does have loyalty to him. Mike was attempting to make him disloyal to Walt, doing what Fring told him.

And he was only really loyal to Gus. He threatened to break Saul's legs because Saul didn't want himself disbarred.

You think? He hardly cared the world for him, but I think there was a little bit of affection there at the same time. Especially in the episode where Gus was bluffing that he'd have Jesse sold off to the Mexicans as their new cook.

The ironic thing is though, can you blame him for trying to turn Jesse from a viewers perspective? After all, Walt let Jane die, something I didn't hate him for because of how manipulative Jane was, and Walt was responsible for poisoning Brock. Walt may care about Jesse but he's lied to him as well at numerous points and done awful things to people around him.

I think he grew on him. In S5 he seemed to want to look out for him, but I doubt he intended that. It was simply to get Walt out of the picture.

Walt's manipulated everyone and everything to get what he wanted/needed, but deep down there's a care for his family and Jesse.

Yeah, barring that little bit of affection for Jesse he was pretty much a complete sociopath.

There's a handful of scenes where they show him being a doting Grandad and in season 5 I'm fairly sure he says "Take care, kid." (or words to that effect) to Jesse and it seemed genuine.

So I don't think he was a complete black hole emotionally. I liked Mike, but of course Walt, the prick, had to kill him.

Yeah I think Walt cares about Jesse in a sick perverted way, and it does sometimes hint at him seeing him as his son, but he does shit to Jesse that he'd never do to Walt Jr. I think he has a certain affection for him, definitely, and is pretty loyal to him overall, but deep down, if the situation really required it, he'd be willing to hurt him in ways he wouldn't envisage hurting his family. He really does love his son, whereas he only cares for Jesse.

As for Mike, basically everything in the business world is expendable, he's a professional and he's methodical, he probably also cares a bit about Jesse cos he sees his flaws and recognizes Walt as a cancer, and wants Jesse to be able to make his own choices in a sensible manner, but all in all, you can tell he only cares about his granddaughter, I think the show makes that very clear.

None of the characters are 'complete black holes' I don't think.

Flynn was happy once.

WALT JUNIOR! Seriously, he should have ended up in one of Walts barrels for that.

YES YES YES! Im really hoping for a nasty end for both of them, pair of irritating bitching mares.

See I've swung the other way, I haven't found her as nearly as annoying second time round. Everything she has done with regards to Walt you would expect her to do.

Plus her rendition of Happy Birthday to Beneke was a huge turn on.

Im just a huge Walt Fanboi so any anti walt character has to die for me to be happy :)

Skylar is a very good character. It's weird, she's a character that is done very, very well, but I don't 'like' her, but not because she's shit. I think the way she turns so cold to Walt is justified with all the lies he's pulling.

The only character I don't really like in any way is Marie. Everyone, I think, plays their part extremely well.

Now THERE is a woman only a fist could love!

I agree with that about Skylar actually. I think what's interesting about the character is how she kind of goes from the opposite of Walt to an extent. Walt starts off very "dull" in life and satisfied with it where as Skylar (as shown in the flashback, was it S3 or S4 when they buy the house) is all about the American dream and has these grand plans of a brilliant life. When Walt actually finally delivers that lifestyle he wants more which is what Skylar wanted where as she actually seems to be miserable with it all and we've been left on the idea that she actually wants nothing to do with it. They have both kind of transformed in to the others original personality.

Out of interest why does no one seem to like Marie? I don't think she's a great character but she does play her part in the show. I'd probably say she's the character who is probably least needed but then she does provide an extra dimension to Hank's character to show there is more to his life than work, where as at some points the only thing Walter seems to care about is the meth lab.

Mate there's something wrong with you.

Because she simply will not ever just shut the feck up, she has a (usually wrong) opinion about everything and insists on sharing them.

Wasn't she the one to say she understood why Walt didn't want treatment when Skylar insisted on that 'sharing pillow' sit down?

I agree Marie's not a very 'needed' character. There's just something about her portrayal I find a bit annoying. If she were a Friends character, she'd be Monica. Nobody likes Monica.
