Blaise Matuidi

Pilib De Brun said on his periscope about Pogba something along the lines of if United dont get Pogba, they'll sign Matuidi and then said (which few picked up on) that they may end up signing Matuidi regardless. If Mourinho is interested, I dont see why signing Pogba makes a difference. If there's a deal there, I wouldnt be stunned if we signed him as well.

Yep, I caught that when he said it. We may well wind up with both.

Logically we'd sell Fellaini and get Matuidi, but I imagine Schweinsteiger's wages factor in to any decision.

Its very logical, at the same time i havent seen one journo that has Linked fellaini with a move. Fellaini is still on holidays yet was on Jose's whiteboard , hes going no where

Moyes is going to Sunderland by the looks of it. Hopefully they have a few quid lying about.

Has he not been a deep lying playmaker for PSG?

He's normally been quite an attacking box to box player for PSG from what I've seen, with Verratti and Motta typically playing deeper and Verratti being by far the best passer in that midfield. I'm a big fan of Matuidi, but he's very different stylistically to Carrick.

no he isnt. Hes a defencive center mid turned Box to box mid.
Cheers.

Unless Rooney is on the way out this summer (which I doubt), Pogba would make the midfield (the #8 & #10) crowded. Matuidi is not deep lying midfielder. The other way around to fit Matuidi and Pogba would be the balanced double pivot France used in later games. This set up would limit Pogba involvement in attacking if the opponent put numbers in central midfield and have runners on wing and through midfield. In this case Matuidi can't alone sweeping by sitting back, which mean Pogba is the one who has to to sit back. It's a waste limiting world record player who has good attacking attribute on defensive duty.

It would be a similar set up that he had with Cesc and Matic at Chelsea.

Problem is we don't have anything close to Matic to make this work. I think we would be stuck with Pogba Carrick Rooney as # 10, unless Pereira could step up big time and claim the #6 spot or Rooney being let go this summer.

Please don't mention Schneiderlin. He can't play the deep lying role.

If he gets back to his Southampton form he could fill the role Kheidra played for Mourinho.

Problem is Rooney as #10. Schneiderlin to fill Khedira's role would mean #8 is occupied. Would be a waste plying Pogba as #6.

Just prove my original point, that as long as Rooney still have starting place, with Pogba in any #8 would likely pushed onto the bench.

back four

No captain no party :nono:

Rate Matuidi myself, but can't see him coming along side Pogba while Rooney stays. Would be a waste for Pogba and Matuidi to play like in later games in EURO.

Is he a fairly straightforward physical box to box all action player who can do a bit of everything but isn't particularly excellent at one thing? What's his passing ability like?

He's supposedly at his best in a three man midfield, (which we won't play with Rooney in the squad) and at the left side of midfield, which is where Pogba would play. He's definitely an alternate. One we hopefully don't sign.

We won't as you say get both Pogba and Matuidi. It is one or the other and I fear we are being played by an agent yet again with regards to Pogba. If it isn't announced before the start of next week, not sure it will happen and Jose said he wanted his transfers in all sorted pronto.

We could get him for a good price, they want to get rid and he he has been a good servant for them, so i imagine if we want to play a midfield 3 at some point (when Rooney plays shit and gets dropped), he would be a fantastic addition.

Wayne must want to go and cry in a corner. First Jose is not backing him completely, now Big Sam is doing the same.

Please, Matuidi and Pogba together in this window. That would make a pretty awesome window for United if that happen, compared to recent seasons.

If this happen, it would give Mou such options in midfield. Blind/Carrick as the DM, with either Matuidi/Schneiderlin/Herrera/Pogba/Schweinsteiger to choose from, to make up that midfield three.

According to the M.E.N. Matuidi is a DM as well.

Yeah I think he was predominantly a DM before Carlo Ancelotti supposedly transformed him into a beast of b2b player. Probably he would excel there again, given that he is supposedly in decline this season. This is what was said by those who have watched him.

The thought of matuidi and Pogba in our midfield is  be surprised if we do get both though

Pogba schneiderlin matuidi would be a very solid midfield 3

Once we get Pogba over the line I really think we'll ship on bastain and maybe Fellaini which will certainly open the door for this fella. To be honest I think bastain going alone opens the door for this fella! Would be a great bit of business getting rid of bastain and getting matuidi in!

I would absolutely HATE having Blaise at United.

The ones who would love him here are only biaised by PSG's results. Matuidi has always been a second or third player in all his club. He's exceptionnal at running and chasing balls in midfield BUT he's extremly poor at keeping possession. I guess with players like Carrick / Herrera / Basti / (pogba), the club tries to have more technical players and maybe dictating more the game.

Another thing, Matuidi is so attacked minded that he usually get more forward than Zlatan at PSG and I can see that happening with us. He never shines in a 4-2-3-1 because he lacks tactical awareness. In a midfield three he runs down the line and goes and goes.

But to be honest he's not better than Schneiderlin in a midfield 2, he'll be more like Fellaini (add aggression in midfield)

I'm totally against

Don't know why people love the idea of Morgan, Pogba and Matiudi. That would be one-dimensional as feck. If we add another midfielder after Pogba then it's hopefully someone who can keep the ball, distribute it and control the game from deep while not beeing useless at doing a bit of the dirty work too.
