Blaise Matuidi

We could do with Matuidi but if we're getting Pogba then we need someone like Verratti. Otherwise we'll look like France's midfield from the Euros - tumescent.

That was more down to Deschamps than the players IMO.

We have more chances of signing Griezmann this summer than we have of signing Verratti over the next few summers.

I would absolutely HATE having Blaise at United.

The ones who would love him here are only biaised by PSG's results. Matuidi has always been a second or third player in all his club. He's exceptionnal at running and chasing balls in midfield BUT he's extremly poor at keeping possession. I guess with players like Carrick / Herrera / Basti / (pogba), the club tries to have more technical players and maybe dictating more the game.

Another thing, Matuidi is so attacked minded that he usually get more forward than Zlatan at PSG and I can see that happening with us. He never shines in a 4-2-3-1 because he lacks tactical awareness. In a midfield three he runs down the line and goes and goes.

But to be honest he's not better than Schneiderlin in a midfield 2, he'll be more like Fellaini (add aggression in midfield)

I'm totally against
While I don't see this transfer materialized if Pogba come and Rooney stay, I have to disagree with very much everything you put out in your post.

First of all, LVG is gone and the possession based philosophy would be gone with him, so more athleticism will be needed in a more direct, counter attacking football style.

Bring some possession stat before spouting Matuidi's poor in possession. I dare you! His technique may look awkward, that's it.

It's the tactical intention to let Matuidi to us his athleticism to bomb forward when the team at time mostly consist of slower players who rather do smart movement than burst their lungs. Similar had been said of this Manchester team who have too much players who rather pass the ball around than take player on and lack movement. Watch France vs Germany again see how Matuidi's tactical awareness in an unfamiliar role in 42211(Griezman is more of forward than midfielder). I can help to point out how Matuidi showed great tactical awareness and contributed to France victory with tactical discipline. Matuidi was one of the best PSG players in big games over the year. No one can't keep flukeing this with terrible possession stats and tactical awareness.

If Schneiderlin was around the same level of Matuidi in midfield 2, then France would have play Schneiderlin and allowed Pogba to roam forward. In reality, the lack of options forced Deschamp's pragmatic hand in the final to stick Pogba in deep position while having to rely on no end product Sissokho to produce something. Also Scheiderlin's best role is to add aggressiveness to the midfield which LVG misused him. Fellaini adds dirtiness, there are many times he leave opponent players running unchecked for someone who is required to add aggressiveness. Fellaini is far from comparable to Matuidi in style, role,...

Everyone loves Matuidi. He's boys with half our team already (Martial, Schneiderlin, Zlatan) as well as Pogba. I'd re-sign Evra as well and we could have a party bus on the way to the matches.

Why we are looking at him is beyond me, he's nothing more than a mediocre player. It remains a mystery to me what some see in him.

Pogba falling through worries me far less than this guy being the alternative, it would be such a huge downgrade.

Lingard is handling that department single handedly.

Matuidi has been great for PSG over the last couple of seasons. One of my favourite players in that league.

We need to tie him down before the season starts if we want an effective midfield and give over waiting for pogba to dick us about before joining Madrid..Matuidi is much better than anything we have at present and all we can do is improve what we have

In terms of quality Pogba and Matuidi are worlds apart.Better we use our own player then buy another medicore player.

Le Parisien apparently reporting that matuidi is to leave at the end of the season and we are interested. Fee around €10m-€15m

I'll believe that when I see him with a United shirt. Apparently we was nailed on to get him last summer.

Wasnt it a case of we'd sign him if the Pogba deal fell through? I recall that being the general thought.

I think a move is imminent (whether to us or not needs to be seen). He has a year left on his contract and with Rabiot already developing well, it's unlikely that he would stay beyond this summer. Maybe @Downcast or @JPRouve can clarify more

He is 30 so even a move, it will likely be a short term one

He's 30 now, and he's a player who relied on his engine, so it'll definitely be a short term signing for whoever signs him.

I'm not his biggest fan but at £10m he'd be a decent option, as unless Carrick re-signs we will be short of midfield options.

I think he's really good. A good thing about him is that he's left footed. Since Raiola is his agent, I'm assuming this is going to happen.

Around £10m would be a reasonable fee for a player who would be a decent squad player for midfield. Would be nice to make a sensible signing that doesn't cost a fortune for a change.

Matuidi would be a very good option to have and if he'd only cost £10m, that'd be a decent deal. But Matuidi's key attributes are his physical traits and not technical, so we could be seeing a decline very soon, now that's he's 30. Perhaps paying more for Bakayoko would be a better investment.

First Aurier and now Matuidi. The French papers going full Portuguese
Only on their undesirables though.

I don't really like Matuidi much at all, but for that price I guess it's better seeing him on the field than Fellaini.

No Thanks !

Matuidi only plays on the left and this is Pogba's best position.

No need to repeat Deschamp's issue here.

Then you add his monumental wages (10M£ a year)
