Television Better Call Saul | Includes Breaking Bad Spoilers

Yeah, sick of the moaning now. It is what it is. BB was also a slow burner, nobody seemed to have a problem with that. I think it's nice to have a show that focuses on the small details that affect character and story development rather than one that relies on poor excuses, shark jumping and relentless action.

Possibly because pretty much no one watched it then. Although it was never at the levels of BCS slow build up.

I had looked to see how many episodes there were left around ep 9 but scanned down and saw a few "extras" at the bottom like season trailers and mistakenly thought they were series 2 episodes. So when I was watching the last ep of the season I had no idea it was the last ep, and there was no clue from watching it that it was. It seems to be above those kinds of conventions, like "twists" and "cliffhangers", which is consistent with what the show itself is like.

Having said all that I do enjoy the show, there is no question of me not watching series 3. I like it, I want to know where it is going. But it is fair to say it could have been a lot more than what it is. It is also fair to say that if it wasnt for the BB connection, and my hardwired caring about where its going because of that connection, I probably wouldnt care anywhere near as much.

Its like a sunday roast where the meat is a bit dry, the gravy is a bit thin and watery and you only have one potato. Im still going to eat it, and enjoy it, but there is no escaping the feeling of mild disappointment.

Did you just compare BCS with a sunday Roast!? Yes you just did.....and it fits perfectly.

I have to quite like something to compare it to a Sunday Roast, to be fair. The choice of analogy is highly complimentary in itself, even if BCS is a bit dry and chewy and leaves me wanting a bit more potato.

As I said, the main thing is I do really want to know where its going and how they are going to reconnect it back to Breaking Bad. It is good enough to keep me interested in that, even if it isnt something I would be raving about in its own right.

2 seasons in now and it still hasn't got going, it's tiresome, and if I didn't know or haven't had watched BB there's no way I would watch another episode !! Better caul Saul ? Better call Samaritans it's that depressing !!!

If only

It was a bit disappointing overall - not as good as the first season which was really good - and the finale was a bit flat. Just got to hope that this season was kind of putting in the pieces ready for more exciting stuff in the next season. Would like to see more BB characters come into it like Frings / Jesse but not sure if this will happen. Plus, of course Jimmy becoming Saul and (as important IMO) Mike becoming Mike

Jesse won't come into it in any sort of actual important role. Pretty sure season 2 of BB was first time he actually met Saul. He knew of him as a lawyer but had never used him.

What's this? Fan made or genuine?
Fan made. Seems to be one a month that gets the idiots on Facebook excited.

Saw people sharing a new Prison Break 'trailer' that was just some scenes from an episode of Legends of Tomorrow

About 40 seconds in to the video, the answer to where Mike spends his time between series of BCS....shaved his goatee off in an attempt to avoid being spotted by fans looking for selfies with him only to be spotted on BT Sport...crying as well, there goes the tough guy/strong, silent type image...

I have to confess, it was on another forum that I spotted it, so can't take the credit for it, does look a bit like him, minus the goatee, but Mike crying ? Never ?

That's the first teaser of a new season. Or at least that's what people are saying.

Great advert, hopefully Gus enters into the series sooner than later but wondering if the rumours are true of a Gus spin off series which would absolutely make for an interesting story arc on it's own

Gus was my favourite character in Breaking Bad, with Mike second. So, I'm obviously really looking forward to seeing the story unravel from here. I just hope past trends don't continue and it takes about five episodes for them to actually meet face to face.

I watched the 1st season and wasn't that impressed. Have yet to see the 2nd season and probably won't be for some time.

Lemme guess "its a slow burner"
A slow burning show isn't bad for me. I like shows that take their time building story and characters. It just felt very flat, though I did like the twist at the end with Saul's brother Chuck (?). Personally, though I like the character and actor, I just don't think him being the sole star of a show is my cup of tea.

I usually binge shows rather than watching it once a week while said shows on air, but I watched this weekly when it first came out a couple of years so maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it as much as I would've as I just prefer going from one episode straight to next. The only show in recent times I've watched episodes weekly because I couldn't wait was GoT but, for the most part, having to wait a week for episode after episode does me no favours.

Just rewatched the season 2 finale.

Wondering if they can manage to slow things down a bit for season 3?
The heady fast pace of the story-telling gets a bit confusing at times. :p

S03 Ep01

Just watched it and … yep, they've slowed that down nicely. FFS!

Hopefully this picks up this season, looking forward to watching it.

I really don't get how the first two seasons got such critical acclaim. They were incredibly slow and dull for the most part, and the new characters (Chuck and Kim) were largely crap and forgettable. It was so fecking average that I can only assume it did well because of the rep of its big cousin.

And it looks like S3 is getting rave reviews too even though it's apparently still just as slow.

It's self indulgent pretentious twaddle that makes it very easy for its fans to dismiss criticism with 'you just don't get it' which coupled with the fact it's beautifully shot, and has some very nice vignettes, seems to blind people to the fact we're 20 hours into it and absolutely fecking nothing has happened.

I like it enough to want to watch the new season, so it must be doing something right, but I can't help shake the feeling that after each episode I'll be in here whinging about the fact either nothing happened, or that they've once again reset the story to the beginning.

I rewatched it recently and it's better when watching in one go rather than week to week like most shows are. And the first series was definitely better than the second which was when it was at its worst for overly long scenes with nothing happening. I just watched the new episode and it's more of the same.

Yikes, that was certainly a dull one. If they aren't interested in moving the plot forward at a quicker pace they surely have to supplement anything that does happen with, say, a bit of humour? Breaking Bad was genuinely hilarious at points but Better Call Saul doesn't even seem to be trying to be funny. That said, season openers are there usually as the name suggests to 'open' the story for proceeding episodes so I'm willing to write that one off (and perhaps season 1 + 2 were funny? Can't remember myself).

Watched the new episode and think I'll wait until they've all come out and binge watch it instead. It might feel less slow watching them one after the other.

I still don't like Saul as a character, i didn't in breaking bad, and i don't now, he's just annoying! The best thing about this series are all the bad guys popping up again. Like said above, i'll be watching this new series though, so they're obviously doing something right!

But i'll wait until they're all out too... i find it too slow and hard going watching it week to week.

A lot of people thought Breaking Bad was the greatest thing to ever be created, and a lot of those people decided beforehand that Better Call Saul would be equally great, so they will clutch every straw they can get their hands on to "prove" it. I was looking through a reddit thread about BCS a while back and it was just an massive circle jerk of random artistic phrases and whatnot - anything else was massively downvoted, obviously.
