Bastian Schweinsteiger | Exit Speculation

Surprises me that so many people are in support of Schweinsteiger here.

He signed for United for one reason and one reason only... money. And now he refuses to leave the club cause nobody else is insane enough to pay his ridiculous salary.

On his day, I rate him as a player and think he's one of the best CMs of the past 10 years or so. But I never wanted him at United.

Having said all this, I'd still rather see him in the Starting 11 than Carrick.

Do you honestly think a player like him would risk this frankly embarrassing situation just to earn more money? He has a networth of 50m or so and his wife is pretty loaded herself. He could easily make a minimum half of what he gets with us at another club and have his dignity intact.

He might just love United/Manchester and maybe doesn't want to leave? To think a player is being lambasted and called greedy for not wanting to leave a club.

We don't need him in the first team squad at all.Not his fault but he should act like a professional and move on.Players who had contributed much more to this club had to move on when time comes calling.

In what way did he not act like a professional? By not wanting to move?

Whats inexplicable about that? Carrick is certainly not a better player than Schweinsteiger. Never has been and never will be.

If I had to decide between the two this season, it would be Bastian. But I still think Schneiderlin and Pogba is our best midfield 2. If we played a fit Schweinsteiger in the "Pirlo" role behind these two, we would be brilliant I think.

Well Carrick certainly played better than Schweinsteiger last season, and better than any other of our midfielders too and has been our best centre midfielder in the past seasons since Scholes retired. I still hope he does well, but Schneiderlin was the worst performing centre midfielder last season (could be due to LVG etc. as no one really played well).

Good for him, take the money owed, if the club wants him to sit in the stands so be it. If we'd let him train with the rest of the players just once so we could say he's not good enough I might think differently but I don't like to see a player singled out and treated differently.

We're no longer calling him BFS. It's now FBS! He should move on but he has a contract! He should have been given a similar contract ZFI.

In fairness I never called him BFS, I have a contingency plan. I don't even name our footballers until they've been at the club for 3 years.

Is there also transfer deadline day in the US today?

If he stays, he must believe that he will get a chanc sooner or later.

He wouldn't stay for the money. He is f***** rich, earns enough via advertising. And most important: If he stays, he looks greedy, which can harm his image which means less advertising money in the future. Maybe he hope for some matches in the league cup and europa league? However, I think that he will go to New York or LA.

As long as he's here for however many months, we may as well use him for those Europa games with the kids or the other fringe players that Jose is not using at the moment. We're still paying him and I believe if he's not injured he will be determined to do well. It's a waste of money otherwise.
Once he is played in Europa match, he cannot play for other clubs in Euro matches, this may further lower the chances that any club want him.

Thats not really relevant though as hes already said he wont play for another European club.

Yes, when the manager has made it clear that he's not on the plan. How would him staying benefit either the club or himself?

It probably won't but I think we underestimate sometimes that switching jobs and countries can be difficult even for footballers.

Imagine getting a job abroad and then 12 months later being told you're no longer wanted. It's harsh.

I don't blame him for wanting to stay and at least trying to get back in there.

Cut him some slack, We gave him the contract and its his desire to stay and earn his wages like he's entitled to. Maybe he hasn't found the right club in this window. And he has said he doesn't want to play anymore in Europe so maybe he'll move to the MLS when their window opens again.

This is ridiculous, you don't know the meaning of the word obviously. A player going on strike and ignoring his contract to try force a move is unprofessional.

WE contacted Schweinsteiger and his representatives. WE negotiated a fee with Bayern. WE made our intentions clear for him in the team, WE offered him enough money to convince him to move. WE conducted medical and fitness tests before WE placed a contract in front of him to sign.

I hope Josè is just being stubborn with him ti show the money men upstairs that he's tried to trim the wage bill after adding so much to it this Summer.

Once the window is closed there's no point paying him not to play so we should act professionally and give him a chance in the 1st team squad again. Like others have said he had a better season than the likes of Schneiderlin so don't think he should be treated worse based on his wages which we thought he was worth.

This. People forget that we bought him, he didn't sneak into the squad and forge himself a contract.

Agree with everything but the last point.

No point bringing him back. And to Jose ,Morgan is a better alternative. That's why he is the squad and Bastian isn't. No matter how much people whine ,that's not gonna change.

If we get a fired up Schewinsteiger with something to prove and no distractions from the national team he might, might be able to give us something...

No it's closed 3rd of August.

I don't get the dislike for him now, this time last year you all blew your loads over him.
I hope he gets another chance, we don't really have another proven foil for Carrick.

Classy.

Some others - there is english subtitles available...

There is three interests in this - Schweinsteiger's is it to stay at United and when he does not get a chance here probably go to the MLS in spring. He was very classy in his press conference yesterday - did not let anything go against United or Mourinho like the most others would have done.

As much as I have seen of him during the training he looks pretty good - probably lacks match time to get really in good shape - but says that he still has a lot fun on football especially as he does not have any pain anymore during training or matches like he had it a lot in the recent seasons.

Interesting tweets.... so do the players like him or not?
Or is this just PR stuff?

Now this is ridiculous! The situation for him has changed. Mourinho did NOT sign him and doesn't have any plans for him in the first team whatsoever. Why should Mourinho be forced to play an unwanted player simply because he's being paid? That's not Mourinho's duty/responsibility as manager

When Bastian first arrived, a lot of fans believed they were getting a Galactico class midfield general. Basically captain of Germany and Bayern.
Pep warned that Bastian had not been match fit for 2-3 years. Fans ignored this.
Once he started to play, the realisation set in that Pep was right and that this version of Bastian was way past his best.
A year later, after Pep first highlighted that he was 2-3 years past his best, Mourinho has also come to the same conclusion.
Hence, the fans have now realised that he is not good enough for us and they want him gone.

Pep never told that Schweinsteiger was not match fit - if that would have been he would not have started him and often let him play fulltime whenever possible. Schweinsteiger had a goal or an assist every 155 minutes in his last season for Bayern - not bad for a not "match fit" central midfielder (and better than e.g. Rooney's numbers as an offensive player last season...). But - yes - he probably has never been in top form during his time at Bayern - but that is because the ceiling is higher for him.

I do wonder if Schweinsteiger is destined to become Jose's big name fall-guy.

Lots of new managers often force a big star name out early doors just to assert dominance and show who's boss.

Seems a perfect situation for Jose to get rid of a player who's a bit past his best, whilst laying down a marker to the rest of the squad that he'll take no prisoners, even from established 'world class' players.

Of course most would've wished it was Rooney he'd tried this with, but maybe a bridge too far, for now...

Looks like he's trying not to cry with this tribute:)
Edit - now crying

Just been bawling his eye out during the presentation.
God, I'm not even German and it was emotional watching that.
Feel bad for him now!
