Arturo Vidal

Rakitic had 10 assists and 12 goals for Sevilla last season. Vidal had 5 assists and 11 goals.
This is why stats should be used in context. Almost all of Rakitic's assists and a few of his goals were from set-pieces, whereas Vidal doesn't take them for Juve. Style of play and what these players will bring to the team are very important too and we definitely need a Vidal type player more than someone like Rakitic.

You forgot to mention that Rakitic played as an attacking midfielder, whereas Vidal played in a midfield-three. But yeah, completely unneccesary to mention such stats.

Yeah, that too.
Makes the stats completely worthless when they're used without context.

As much as I'd like Vidal, if we were to get him, i'm sure we wouldn't have bought Herrera. As it is, we now have Herrera who will no doubt play in the number 8 role, which is Vidal's specialized position.

A few people have been saying the two could work in a double pivot, and while that could be right, the two of them are too attack minded for me. In a double pivot, you normally have someone who is more defence minded and drops back a bit. In my opinion, we'd be taking away the great attacking attributes of either Herrera or Vidal (if we get him) if we were to ask one of them to play as the more reserved midfielder.
And what if LVG has designs on both of them ahead of a DM or DLP in a midfield 3?

LVG doesn't do static systems, so plenty of tinkering or adjusting should be expected and from that, there's a myriad of ways to use both players in systems outside of a flat 4-4-2.

If the two of them were here, I'm pretty sure we'd see Carrick behind them in some kind of 4-3-3 for the biggest games, and after that, we really should have the overall superiority to implement even a flat 4-4-2 against other sides and come out on top with a Vidal-Herrara coupling.

I think the wide men we have or get in are just as important to a 4-4-2 working as the centre of midfield, so a lot rests on that, imo.

More chance of signing Adam Ant.
I hope I have to eat my words.

The story is mainly based around the fact Vidal's agent is in Italy, it touches on the fact that could be for Sanchez and for me that is the logical explanation!

There is no smoke without fire, I'm convinced we are in for him, its just a matter of whether he actually comes.

I think this move is gonna happen, Vidal's price wont be any higher and Juve I feel will sell.

nonsense think of the hundred's upon hundreds of transfer rumors every summer that turn out to be nothing more then a way for newspapers to flog themselves.

transfer rumors are the definition of smoke without fire.

True that. Last summer we'd have signed 50 world class players if newspaper rumours meant anything at all.

we said the same about veron and spurs thought lamela would be class. for a guy from another league, it is a big risk.
Signing anyone is a big risk. Berbatov, Torres, Fellaini, Rodwell, Downing, Carroll, etc are all players signed by prem clubs who had the special 'prem proven' tag and did nothing to justify the price tags.

Hopefully Vidal says something soon we know where this is going.
or vidal will get on with his life completely oblivious to the nonsense talked about him, in the mean time newspaper and websites will continue to use his name to flog themselves

Any chance Van Gaal can get Herrera to play #6 and Vidal to play #8 or vice versa?

it would have to be vidal as the number 6, herrera can not play as defensive midfielder.........not totally convinced vidal can either, as he normally has somone behind him(ie pirlo) so he can marauder around.

if(and that is one F'ing huge 'IF') we did sign vidal, we would probably have to play a 3 in midfield, with carrick behind herrera and vidal. either that or play pretty gung ho, and just hope we score one more than the opponent... which would be quite fun to see :)

Vidal played centre back for Chile so he's definitely capable of playing a more disciplined role in midfield.

To this quantity, this magnitude? We aren't talking about your Daily Star rumour page, there's a vast amount of credible sources making this link, its almost a carbon copy of the Fabregas saga.

didnt know that..... was he any good?
still a question of whether we would want to spend around 50 million on a player then then not make the best use of him by tying him to a role where he has to be fairly disciplined.
be alright for a game or two here and thier but if we did sign vidal i want to see him at his maundering best, not tyed to shielding the back four.

The difference between Vidal and our other targets is that Shaw and Herrera already had a crapload of ground work done as they were long-standing targets green-lighted by van Gaal. It's possible that any interest in Vidal is having to take place from scratch, which takes time and probably only started in earnest after Chile's World Cup exit a short time ago.

Aye, he played that role for Chile in the last World Cup and was very impressive I thought. It was a sort of hybrid CB/LB/CM role which he just excelled in in all areas. I don't think playing him as the more defensive player in a midfield two would be the same as forcing him to play within himself all game - Keane was our most influential player for years in that role and Vidal is a similar kind of player. We would definitely play a midfield three plenty of times and give Vidal more freedom to attack but I think he'd he very influential even as the more defensive CM.

well no becuase moyes himself admitted we where in for fabregas... and we no we bid, nither of those things are true with vidal.
reminds me much more of the ronaldo rumors from last summer, which where every where, but had no substance to them what so ever, just a load of fans convinced them self that "CR7 was Coming home" and newspapers prayed on that.

the simple sad fact is this summer you put the words 'vidal' and 'man united' in a article you will get loads of traction, and thats pretty much all journalists reporting transfer rumors are interested in.

interesting.... very good point about keane too.

but still would like to see him given a bit of freedom most games if we did sign him because its in that role he seems to have excelled in the most

Di Marzio, Italian journalist has confirmed our interest, he is pretty reliable. There is no doubt we are interested, doesn't mean we will sign him though.

Also in relation to Cesc I think we probably have realised it's best to keep quiet.

the fact you say 'pretty' reliable dosn't sound that convincing lol.
but yeah i agree we have learned our lesson after Cesc, i was simply pointing out the storys are completely different, as one we had confirmed interest and had bid, the other we have no confirmed interest and from all reports havn't bid.

Ok, so , we are not in for any player then! I don't get it with some of you. It's as bad as those who believe everything.

He is very reliable, especially regarding the serie A. Even tuttosport have said that we have interest in the player, and they have always rubbished them every time Vidal was linked to someone in the past. They are like Marca for Madrid, the mouthpiece for Juve.

If they are saying the interest is genuine, then it is. It does not mean that we will get the player or anything. It is not impossible to have a interest in one of the best CMs around. Ducker had said that as well. You won't get more reliable info than this.

There are reliable people who have said that our interest is genuine.

Don't waste your time mate, apparently we are not in for anyone because the club has not told us so, such a baffling logic.

Harsh, top scorer in the EPL and won us the league
