Arturo Vidal

I think United are working on a player nobody even expects. These Vidal rumors are a result of the press not knowing anything and hanging onto a rumor from weeks ago.

These rumors came from a van Gaal quote in which he stated that he wanted to sign Vidal a few years ago.

Don't fall for it.

Not really. Di Marzio has said nothing on United's Vidal interest until today. In fact, he kept saying they've heard nothing about our interest nor talks between the clubs. Today he's changed their tune and said we have indeed made contact and that we're very interested. Di Marzio is a very reliable Italian source and he doesn't just post transfer stories for the sake of it.

With Kroos supposedly leaving Bayern - I'm pretty sure that Guardiola plans on replacing him with Vidal...The difference is that with Bayern they will only get linked to Vidal for 30 minutes before they actually sign him...in the meantime the tabloids in England will tell us every day for weeks that a deal for us to sign Vidal is imminent until Bayern enter the fray and sign him without any fuss or endless transfer speculation

he didn't move to bayern out of loyalty to bayer Leverkusen... Vidal will not play in a different german team, and will not play in other italian team. That leaves Spain and England... IF he moves.

Last season I would have agreed with this, but with LvG, and Uniteds new found desire/need to spend money I feel we can genuinely compete with Bayern for a player like this, and so we should!

Only thing that is the issue is no CL, but doesn't take Einstein to see it is only temporary.

Even if Kroos did leave, Bayern still have Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Martinez, Gotze, Thiago and Hojbjerg. Replacing the ageing Ribery/Robben is where there money will be going in the next few years.

I'm more concered about defence and wingers, how will van gaals system work with terrible wingers?

He never said that. The general consensus was that the deal being completed was only a matter of time.
He did say that we weren't interested in Herrera the day before we signed him. I tend to believe most of the stuff that Ogden says however people on here tend to think that what he says is gospel truth! The fact is his sources tell him stuff, sometimes they get it wrong however!

and maybe the club are showing a bit of sense this summer in firing out red herrings rather than declaring our undying love for someone like Fabregas when the the chances of signing the guy were a long shot

Ya you're right there. I was only pointing out that he never said we weren't signing Shaw.

Both our attack and defence will instantly improve with a better midfield in between and playing in a system designed to help us control games better.

A combo of Herrera and Vidal along with Mata/Rooney/Kagawa in a midfield 3 sounds defensively solid enough?

We should be carefull about this, he has been having problems with his knee for a very long time now (also not been 100% for Chile this worldcup). He is approaching 28, which means about 3-4 good years left in him, no resale value either. £45m + Nani is like £55m, that is a shitload of money for having Vidal for a good 3-4 years (hoping that his knee holds).

his knee injury was not serious, and its a thing of the past now.

I'll take 3-4 years of being successful and playing good football due to having Vidal in our team having spent the equivalent of £55m over being shite in the middle with Fellaini, Cleverley, and Carrick seriously struggling not to ruin Herrera's life.

Signing Vidal would be the best thing we could do right now, really hope it somehow happens. He would pair nicely with Herrera and give us the quality in midfield that we have been lacking for so long. I'd rather we kept Nani but if it's the only way to get Juve to part with Vidal then so be it, we will have to replace him though cos our wingers were beyond embarrassing last season. I think Young and Valencia will actually improve under van Gaal and Januzaj will continue to develop and show his quality but we'd still need a winger bought in if Nani is part of any deal.

£45m + Nani is closer to £40m so lets not go too crazy with the evaluations here.

Me to, I'am just saying we should be carefull about this, thoroughly test him (medically) because I don't want to sign somebody who is going to be in and out of team with injurries for the next couple of years if we have to pay that money. Also we have to consider alternatives, there is more on the market than just Vidal, certainly for that kind of money. I just don't want us to get mugged by Juventus is all.

Not against strong teams (especially away from home) but solid enough to play against teams when we are supposed to be favorites.

We paid nout for Cleverley and we've won 5 Premier League titles and a Champions League with Carrick as a regular starter. What an ignorant post.

We can't be too bothered by Nani's "valuation".

As for Vidal, if we get 4 seasons of sensational production out of I'll be more than pleased. If we plays this right we can be back in the CL final season after next.

85 pages without a single quote from the player or either club. I can imagine the meltdown once it doesn't go through...

Carrick is getting older and will inevitably not improve. Cleverley... is there even any need to include this guy into the equation anymore after he showed how much of a coward he is of a midfielder?

Ignorant my arse.

Regardless of whether we paid anything for Cleverley he isn't good enough for a team aspiring to finish in the top ten, let alone win the title and yeah, Carrick was a huge part of our success since he signed but he's so far over the hill now it's ridiculous. If Carrick comes back this season and ends up in the PFA Team of the Year then feck me gladly I'll eat my hat.

We won 13 Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues with Giggs, better than Carrick, should we have just sacked off any more signings and played him every week instead?

As LVG will probably be in charge for 3-4 years I dont think that would deter him being interested in the player.

I am not sure about all these rumors but Vidal/Juventus not coming out to say anything yet gives me a glimmer of hope!

Well according to Di Marzio Juventus are indeed not interested in selling. Vidal himself has yet to comment though.

Not to be picky here, if I had the choice between Vidal or Sanchez...It's Sanchez every time! The guy just had an incredible WC! Played a blinder for Barca this year too.

Sanchez maybe isn't available or at least available at a price Utd are willing to pay... I'd prefer to stump up for him though personally.
