Arturo Vidal

The trouble with a 'back up plan' is that these sagas involving the very top players tend to go on until pretty much deadline day which leaves little time to implement the back up plan - see Herrera last summer (we had to implement Davie's Plan Z in the end)

It doesn't have to go on until the last day and I doubt the club will allow that to happen again. Dithering Dave contributed a lot to our deals falling through or being delayed until the last minute.

Oh, it won't be us who allows it to go on till then - it will be the selling club - they know that the fee will go up as more clubs join in and we become more desperate

But that's just it. We won't allow that to happen. Both our deals so far we've simply stumped up the cash. The club will abandon a deal like that, and sharpish too. I think Woodward is hell bent on ensuring we don't end up with a farcical situation like last summer.

I take your point but Juventus will need to replace Vidal, probably spending the money they get for him. For that reason, I don't think they'll wait until very late in the window to sell.

Agreed.

I think Carvalho is the 'Plan B' myself. The rumours linking us with him keep drifting around in the background, but not going any further. He has a release clause so can be bought for certain, with fairly short notice, if we can't get Vidal.

I think 42m is the fee and we'll pay it. Just my two pence.

Pretty much my thoughts.

Absolutely. I agree that we are only two quality players away from having a very capable squad. Hopefully we can being them in.

I think with all that Moyes said about this squad not being good enough ect ect it's easy to forget we have Van Persie, Rooney and Mata, Rafael, Smalling, Jones, De Gea, Welbeck and now the additions of Shaw and Herrera it's very exciting indeed. Add Vidal and you'd have to put us back in the favourites.

I'm not totally convinced he'd move. The Juve tattoos, the fact he's their main man and they are in the Champions League. The only thing we could do is give him a massive contract. I hope we have a backup if we can't pull it off.

It's worth noting that those "Juve Tattoo's" are his own ahmchievements as a player. It's the equivalent of Van Persie getting a "20" tattoo the season after he signed for us and won us number 20 (which didn't happen btw), we're not talking a red devil. He could easily join us and add to those tats with 21, 22 and 4 and 5

I bet we're currently making sure all is go at the players' end before approaching the club with an official bid. What's the point in arsing about with a transfer if the player doesn't want to come?

Most likely scenario. I think with di Marzio saying we've been in contact with Juve it would seem we've probably made contact with Vidal. Might explain why his agent started following our official twitter account :D

It is odd the idea that these things happen over Twitter now. Just imagine Woodward and friends huddled around waiting for a DM, temporarily distracted wondering why the ruddy feck #FLAN is trending.

I think our defence is still an issue, also our wingers need to get their act together if we still go with 4-4-2.
With a good midfield and decent control in games our defence will look a lot better. There's a lot of potential in there.

"HES NOT GETTING A PENNY until he favorites my tweet about the X-factor"

They're completely different players though. If we are genuinely after Vidal then I'd imagine the back up options are in a similar mould. Not convinced there's any truth in the Carvalho rumours since Moyes went, even if a DM makes more sense right now.

Jackson essentially just leaves every possibility open without offering actual insight. He said Shaw had stalled (because there was a wait from the initial bid) but it was still likely to go through (cause everyone said so). Say Vidal's a target (most are reporting this, even if he's not no-one will know), then fluff it out with more gossip about Strootman, Hummels and then tidbits about players we've already signed. Email in the copy, collect his wages.
He's a knobend

Jackson gets fed the same stuff as Ogden and co. Was the first to report Van Gaal's non-interest in Kroos, at a time when we were said to be nearing signing him. People were telling him he was a bell end until they realised he was right.

I think United are working on a player nobody even expects. These Vidal rumors are a result of the press not knowing anything and hanging onto a rumor from weeks ago.

These rumors came from a van Gaal quote in which he stated that he wanted to sign Vidal a few years ago.

Don't fall for it.

Let's be honest, none of them know feck all. There is no 'good' source. I mean, look at Herrera - who saw that coming?

Ogden said Shaw WOULDN'T happen ffs. None of them have a clue, they put 2+2 together and come out with 5 most of the time.

If I was a journo, I'd easily come out with these stories. I'll make one up RIGHT NOW for example:

Manchester United interested in bringing Blaise Matuidi to Old Trafford for £40 million.

That's not really true.

There are a select group who have genuine sources within the club and are fed bits and pieces occasionally.

They don't know everyone, they never will either, but to write them off completely when they get certain info before anyone else is just as daft as believing every word they say.

I admire your optimism when it comes to footy Journo's and their work. I personally won't believe it's happened until I see it confirmed on Sky Sports ticker.

He follows Angelo Henriquez too, wonder if he's his agent... thinking about it, now's probably a pretty good time to hold some meetings for contract talks. For Angelo, you understand.

He never said that. The general consensus was that the deal being completed was only a matter of time.

If we had Vidal & Herrera as midfielders it would work perfectly well.

Only if we had two wingers who could be relied on to put in reliable and consistent delivery which we simply don't at the moment. Mata/Kagawa are not the players for that system, Januzaj can do it but is still wasted and nani/valencia/young have not shown any indicators that they will return to form. Those two would make it much simpler to do but we'd need to bring in some top wingers to do as well.

I am not getting involved in this unless bbc or sky report it. All other info are just rehashed from one another and will eventually be nothing.

Spot on. None of these Journos know much until the latter stages of transfers. How anyway can say Ogden is reliable is beyond me.

I think it may be ranked like this..

Cb- Hummels- Vermalin-de vrij
Cm-Vidal-carvlho-de jong

Vidal would be the perfect addition to our squad. Unfortunately seems to be out of our reach without CL football(this is only based on best guess).

Agreed with the midfield ranking, but I think the CB looks something like this;
CB- Hummels>>>>Miranda>Vermaelen>>Dutch CB
Hummels was by far first choice, but completely unattainable. Miranda was/is probably on a similar level to Vermaelen in terms of want - he is a lot better but he's far more expensive. Vermaelen is a want because he is left footed and can play with the ball, whilst also being a utility LB. The Dutch CB's (de Vrij, Kongolo, whoever) is probably the last resort if we cannot get one of the others, being comfortable in van Gaal's style of football.
Just my view, anyway.

With Kroos supposedly leaving Bayern - I'm pretty sure that Guardiola plans on replacing him with Vidal...The difference is that with Bayern they will only get linked to Vidal for 30 minutes before they actually sign him...in the meantime the tabloids in England will tell us every day for weeks that a deal for us to sign Vidal is imminent until Bayern enter the fray and sign him without any fuss or endless transfer speculation
