Im a little dissapointed we have not heard anything of an official bid
Shows that we've learnt from last year. If we made a bid and it was leaked to the public and was rejected, I guess people would say we were wasting our time again.

If Woodward seals this deal I dont want to hear one word against him anymore!

And I'll get drunk, its that big of a deal. :D

If he gets Vidal, Sanchez or Di Maria and Hummels....he's untouchable, until then, he's a tool.

I wouldnt say he's a tool. He got us Mata, Herrera and Shaw. And LVG. But if he gets even 2 of the four you mentioned I think we could all say - Mr. Woodward you're a legend. :D

At the prices we were bidding I dont think we had any competition. Those 4 I mention we wont be bidding anything others wont be willing to match. Thats where the test comes.

I would be satisfied with one more CM, winger and CB.
If we get Vidal, Di Maria or Sanchezu and Hummels that would be magnificient.
We dont need both Di Maria and Sanchez, and Sanchez is probably going to Arsenal as it seems. Or Juventus.

I'd prefer Reus and a CM and CB but I'll be waiting I guess.....

With Vidal in, we'd have a top top midfield, something we didnt have for 5 or 6 years now

Vidal-Di Maria or Alexis-Hummels, which means we are having a dream transfer window.

I don't see any logic in what you are saying....

Woodward stumped the cash up that was required to buy both the players. If Shaw was available for £5m less, Chelsea would have been in for him, but they weren't because we made it clear that we were going to get him and paid the premium on it to make sure we were the ones with his signature. Bilbao did everything they could to make it difficult for us to sign Herrera but Woodward got a good team of people in to make sure it was as straightforward as possible and stumped up the cash that was needed. I don't see how he can't be given credit for those transfers.

You're right credit where credit is due I'm just itching for a huge shockwave player.......tick tock

Makes no sense. If other clubs are willing to match our bids then what's Woodward to do about that? Especially if that bid was accepted by the selling club? All he can then do is offer the player an offer that's better financially than the other bidding clubs. But the decision in that case would still come down to the player. Chelsea were interested in Shaw but we made sure we bid well above what Chelsea were willing to part with which left us in the driving seat to seal the deal. Athletic also didn't exactly play nice with Herrera and forced us to stump all the cash, no down payments etc. We did and got it done fairly quickly too. Same for Mata. If we didn't go in high for Mata then other clubs would have certainly been in for him but we went in with purpose and got our man. I'm not sure what you expect the man to do.

EDIT: Just saw your reply to @Pexbo. Glad that's cleared up.

I have to ask... when was the last time a player signed a 4-5 year contract and then got sold in the same off-season?

I think you'll find that wasn't in the same off-season. ;)

I see Suarez as an exception to all rules on account of him being a fecking nutter.

Brilliant muppetry.

He signed a 1 year extension which gave him a much deserved pay rise. It can also be a case of getting most value out of any sale. See Nani for example. Signed a new deal yet he's most likely off.

I'm starting to get the feeling that we might actually pull this off, it just makes sense. Juve want Sanchez but need money, we have money and need a midfielder, while Juve are stocked with them, already having pogba and marchisio so losing Vidal wouldn't hurt as much as one would think.

Same with he di Maria thing. Inevitable that one will end in disappointment at least, but getting 1 of the two would still make it a great transfer window.

If we get either of those two it'd be an incredible transfer window. It's already panning out pretty well I'd say...

The Fabregas one isn't the same, because we actually did submit bids. The other two have a similar ring to this one though. Do you even know the situation in those sagas? I most certainly don't, as most of it was made up rubbish that people desperately tried to give legs.

I was on the Herrera bandwagon from the beginning, because the early reports had a lot of certainty about them, they were realistic. Not to mention the Spanish source that kicked it all off was highly reliable.

We bid for Sneijder as well and the bid was accepted, but we did not agree with his wage demands. For Thiago, we did not pay the release clause he had and instead went for Fabregas. Two different situations.

I don't care which bandwagon you were on, or when you were on from, as it is irrelevant to how realistic a transfer is.

The Herrera deal was as realistic as this one. Bilbao are not easy to deal with, and their buy out clauses are complex, even Bayern had trouble with it. In the end the reason we got it done was we payed the money that was required, and if we do the same here, there is a chance for this to happen as well.

This is similar cause the rumours started in Italy and from Tutto sport, which are the most reliable regarding Juve news. They are also the ones who would deny any rumours previously linking Vidal to any club in the past. The fact that they reported it means that the transfer is not unrealistic.

The reason that this is being discussed is because reliable news outlet from Italy are reporting it. If you don't think this is going to happen, then that is your opinion, but people are going to discuss when rumours start spreading.

We'd have a top class partnership but still lacking in depth. It's a great start though!

Ah I don't know about that. We struggled alot last year because we were depending on Carrick, Jones, Cleverley, Fellaini, Fletcher and Giggs in midfield, with Carrick being below his usual form all season. If we had Vidal and Herrera (And I'm not saying we'll get Vidal), we'd have a top midfield and proven Premier League back-up. Cleverley isn't as bad as he is made out here. He would be a very dependable back up. Carrick is still quality. One poor season won't change that. Fletcher, Jones and Fellaini when we're stuck ain't bad options. We won a league two years ago with those lads. Well not Fellaini and Fletcher was injured, but Carrick, Cleverley and Jones. They're not as bad as we make out on here.
