Arturo Vidal

It is a hard choice to make. For the amounts mentioned I would probably prefer a proven player but others might differ. I wouldn't mind Carvalho but to me the issue with him (atleast the way I see it) is him not being so mobile. That's really the only concern for me. Otherwise he seems like a physical specimen and wouldn't get bulldozed off the ball.

He is as mobile as Matic, and Matic is the first players id like to take from Chelsea if given the choice.

So if rumours are to be believed in that Cleverley has been placed on the market, I just wonder what number that would free up? Hmmm.

Gazetta Della Sport are saying we had a €43m bid rejected for Vidal. If that's the case, then surely we can add €7m to that and meet the asking price.

Matic is the first player you'd take from Chelsea? Surely you cannot be serious...
He's a good DM but I'm not convinced he's anything special. I reckon we could get something similar if we signed Carvalho. Hazard on the other hand is something very special indeed, and we have crap wide players too.

I don't think there's a decision to make at all. Carvalho is extremely limited in comparison. Vidal is the type of player we have needed for years.

We should buy both Vidal and Carvalho. Herrera, Vidal, Carvalho and our midfield would be sorted for many years to come. Carrick isn´t getting any younger and wasn´t very good last season. Fellaini, Cleverley, Fletcher, Ando just aren´t good enough sadly

Well if we did place the bid as reported, then we hardly have that many concerns about his knee.

Yes and no. The fee that has been bid may have performance/appearance related clauses. So, in essence, you are correct that the concern is not enough to stop us bidding (if indeed we have), but we are also covering ourselves in event injury is bad.

It may have, but I think that would have been reported if it was. That's if a bid was even made.

That's not going to happen.

I doubt Juventus will drop their price either since we spent so much on di Maria.

If being the magic word. The question is would we go all out, even pay more if there were no doubts at all? Would we use William as potential leverage? Not sure how big the chest is.

I thought Carvalho's buyout clause was 36m or something like that?

In reality, don't we need a Vidal and a Carvalho?

As I understand it, Van Gaal likes to play with a midfield three, consisting of:

1. A defensive midfielder / destroyer
2. A box to box mid
3. A creative / attacking mid

Carvalho comes into category 1 whilst Vidal is category 2.

If we could get both this would give us:

1. Carvalho / Fletcher / Jones (?)
2. Vidal / Herrera
3. Herrera / Mata / Januzaj

Carrick could cover any of the roles, although none of them perfectly.
This is the reason I think we will sign him

Alarming Signs that Vidal's future is in doubt: the player's silence is not a good sign, it's clear, he could have easily denied everything!
You could have said the same about Rooney last year. He did nothing either way. Atleast Vidal has come out and said, if the move doesn't materialize, he will be happy at Juventus. What more do you expect?.

I think that's the point though. Vidal is clearly interested just like Rooney was.

If the move doesn't happen, then no doubt Vidal will do a interview and say he was never leaving, and it was all speculation etc.

If we were willing to pay 43 though, 7m more is hardly going to break the bank. Why should Juve drop their price? They are right.
I am sure the 7 million isn't going to be a deal breaker but maybe they are having a tougher negotiation stance so that eventually the potential add ons agreed are low. Assuming that most of our big deals this year will have add ons contingent on us winning the league or CL, we'd probably have to pay out quite a bit re: Mata, Di Maria, Shaw if that happens in the future.

Carvalho would fill Carricks spot if a deep laying midfielder. Vidal would higher up the pitch with Herrera in a midfield 3. Carvalho/Strootman could play there, maybe Lvg is waiting for Strrotman.

Yes we need both, whether we'd spend another 60-70m to bring them here is another question. Herrera and Carrick are our only decent CM's. I wouldn't even have Carrick as a starter myself, so our options are basically non existent.

I am moving towards the stage on a daily basis where I am caring less and less whether Vidal joins us. I mean, he is a great player and the ideal signing for me - but I can't convince myself to believe that everything would then be okay if he were added.

I would put more money on us continuing to be shit for a good while even if we bought Vidal than I would on us becoming very good again.

We would then have at least one of the best first XIs in the league. However, while I know it is very early days, LVG looks no less clueless than Moyes right now, and if we continue this formation and playing players based on names and not plan - I don't see any imminent improvement regardless of who we sign.

A Carvalho/Vidal double signing would take us to another level.
