Arturo Vidal

Alonso is old and not as good as he used to be, it wouldnt make much sense of us going for him, especially him being ex Liverpool player too.
Not saying we should go for him but just pointing to the fact that he is still better than what we got.

That's true.

I was thinking the other day - Roma's options in midfield - De Rossi, Strootman, Keita, Ucan, Naiggolan.. And compare that to our situation. Depressing stuff. That's just one example of many.

Maybe that's why Khedira stayed? I don't think even with ADM's sale Real have 40m for Vidal (under FFP they have it otherwise). They've bought James and want to buy Falcao.

Also they have Illara and another CM just sitting on the bench...I hope!

Don't think I can take it if Real swoop for Vidal. I could take him staying at Juve.

After some rational thinking about this. Madrid want Falcao and have been strongly linked to Reus to get him before anyone else tries next year. They have an insane amount of midfielders even with Alonso leaving so HOPEFULLY it's just twatter rumours.

They dont have an insane amount of mids really, Kroos, Modrić, Khedira and Illaramendi.

God could you imagine this place if Madrid bought Vidal then Vidal released a statement saying something like "I agreed terms with Manchester utd weeks ago and was all set to go there but they never put a final bid in and stalled on the transfer, Madrid then came in for me and it would be impossible to turn down a club like madrid, especially when they moved so quickly and showed me how much they really wanted me".:nervous:

What a very specific version of events for a "imagine if".

Can't see him going to Real Madrid. They've sold Di Maria purely to fit Rodriguez in into a 4-2-3-1. Kroos and Modric are Ancellotti's two in midfield with Khedira, Alonso and others in the squad.

A 33 years old Franco Baresi played the final of the WC 94 one month after his surgery (the same as Vidal)

he went to play over 90 games for Milan in the next 3 years.

i wouldn't be too concerned about Vidal fitness. He is more Cylon than human.
And some athletes have taken 10 weeks to come back. It varies by player, as well as by the severity of the meniscus tear. Baresi played the first game and a half of the World Cup then didn't play again until the Final, so he had about 3 weeks of additional rest during the tournament. He also finished 2 of the 3 games he played in, which Vidal never did. He came off in the 49th minute of that second game, which would seem to indicate an injury since that is an odd time to take someone off just 4 minutes after half time (for all I know it wasn't his knee that was the injury though, but it may well have been).

It's hard to know how valid the comparison is unless someone knows a lot about Baresi's injury. For example, do we know how much meniscus Baresi had removed (I thought I read somewhere that Vidal had a pretty significant amount snipped)? Did he needed injections in order to play? Did it take him until 8 weeks after his last game in the WC before he was fit to play a half for Milan?

I don't know the answers to those questions. And I don't mean to say that Vidal hasn't recovered or can't recover fully. I'd love nothing more than for him to join United. My wife is Chilean (she even speaks Chilean language!) and he's been my favorite non-United player for years. But concerns are justified, especially when talking about a huge transfer fee.

I don't need to imagine. You've made it so vivid. It's ruined the press conference for me.

How would we line up the midfield 3 assuming we are moving to 433 and *if* we buy Vidal?

Surely we still need a proper defensive mid?

Would it be....

New DM (De Jong / Blind)
Vidal - box to box
Herrera - attacking creative

?

Herrera Scholesing it, Vidal Keaning it, Mata in front, making up the midfield 3. Di Maria on one wing, Januzaj/Welbeck on the other, Rooney and RVP competing for the striker's position (ideally).

Yes I could.

I appreciate the sentiment but thank god you're not running the club.

I'm glad I'm not as well, I appreciate it's a terrible way of conducting business but that's what it's gonna take to get Vidal.

We have no leverage whatsoever and we desperately need him. Juve have us by the balls on this one.

That would be the ultimate kiss of death, If Madrid end up buying Vidal with the Di Maria money

Everyone can see this happening! Perez is the ultimate muppet owner after all. I really hope this speeds up a bid from us.

I prefer the last.
I like keeping the wingers high up the pitch for fast counters.
I mostly just want a serious midfield again though as i haven't seen us with one in ages.
sorry didn't look closely enough- you're right that one is better. Again rvp over rooney at no.9 though

Yea because some random twitter guy who is probably City fan twitted that Perez is Vidal's admirer we shoud just give up because that is happening...

It's going to happen, isn't it? He's going to Real Madrid. I will be so pissed if that happens. Not even because Vidal's not come to us, but because Madrid just buy everyone to avoid other teams from getting them.

Why the hell Alonso going to Bayern... Doesn't make any sense, he's old & not the players he used to be, if Bayern Munich want a backup MF, there're plenty to choose in domestic league.

From the little I've seen of Rojo, I prefer the energy and drive that Jones provides and has the ability to provide over Rojo in that position..
Having said that, Rojo might be more composed and a better reader of the game...

Yes I agree that Jones has the physique and energy to be a destroyer but I do get nervous with his last ditch flying tackles.
From the world cup, Rojo seems to be a hard bastard and his pace is excellent too, just not sure if he can play
anywhere else other than defence. Am sure LVG will find out soon enough.
.

Amazes me how a team with so many superstars doesn't implode. How can you keep Ronaldo, Bale, James, Modric, Khedira, Kroos, Alonso and Benzema, plus a few others who I'm sure are dying to play like Illarramendi, Jese Rodriguez and Isco, happy when they're all competing for just, what, 6 places?

No wonder a world class player like Di Maria had to leave.
