Arturo Vidal

You can understand the clubs worries over his knees. He had surgery and then rushed himself for the World Cup. Before he had the surgery he played for two months from when he had the injury.

You don't want a Kaka or a Torres situation after their injuries.

Agreed. After all it's not like we're talking about a Pirlo or a Scholes here. Vidal's work-rate, dynamism, acceleration and aggression in the tackle are all key aspects of his game. All elements which players often lose a little after a serious injury.

Di Maria will single handedly win you games when every other player on the pitch is playing shite. No disrespect to Vidal, but I just don't think he's got the skillset to start from the deep position he will have to be played in to accommodate Herrera and win us a game. RVP is testament to the fact a top, top player will still win you games even with a Carrick - Cleverley midfield partnership.

Well we had RVP last season, so why weren't we winning that many games? You can have whatever top player you want, but if those players aren't organized and instructed properly you won't be very successful. Fergie was a genius and it has been clear since he retired. Moyes had no plan and was simply out of his depth and it showed. Van Gaal has a clue and a plan of what he wants to do so I think he will make it work eventually with the right pieces.

Yep, don't get me wrong I'd be all for signing Vidal just for the quality of the player, but I can also understand why the club made sure they got the signing of Di Maria out of the way. Moyes could have had a Spanish/German hybrid last season and still fked up with them.

Louis van Gaal wants to add at least one central midfielder plus another central defender, with Vidal considered his priority. With the manager having harboured doubts about the Chilean midfielder’s knee injury that caused him to play at Brazil 2014 in a half-fit condition, plus the club’s awareness that Juventus are minded to sell, the strategy will be to try and force Vidal’s sale through for an acceptable price before 1 September.

 These journos are proper Jon Snows. Insisting we're not in for him for the last month, then Van Gaal mentions him in an interview and he's all the rage again.

I'm muppeted out. The media are just putting 2 and 2 together to get fans excited

First it's the 34 million fee - they think there's a 200m budget, so they're basing that on what we've spent so far
Now we're looking for a CM before the 1st of Sept.

Well no fecking shit we are.

Its not out of this world to think that we may in fact be in for him, first of all because name dropped him but that just means he rates him highly, secondly during the tour it looked like Fletcher was reborn and with Carrick also there it looked like our midfield was sorted for signings (not to mention Fellaini, Cleverly, Anderson as back up) they fooled us all and were found out twice in the two games we've had. I think LVG has too much of a big ego to risk failing and failing would be falling short of 4th place.

We will sign Vidal if he's knee is 100%, I'd put my money on it.

I wonder where he would fit in. I mean he scored 20 goals from midfield, you don't put a player like that on water carrying duties. Suppose in the 3-4-1-2 formation a midfielder (no 6 ) could have more licence to roam forward with three defenders behind him (though that's not the role he plays for Juve), but as the most defensive player in a 4-3-3 midfield it seems like a waste of a world class talent.

Vidal can cover up space pretty quickly. He's very pacy. He scores goals usually when his team is in possession and he can sneak into the box as he also has excellent positional sense and awareness.

He's all over the pitch if you see him for 90 mins, I'm sure that we won't be that vulnerable on counters with that in mind. He will be the most defensive but also he can recover space fast so he'd be a typical box to box in the end.

He's also pretty disciplined tactically so I don't think we should worry about him finding his place.

This is on. Imagine a window of Shaw, Herrera, Blind, Rojo, Vidal and ADM.

When Di Maria gets finalised am going to relax and wait till deadline day. I think if this is going to happen, it will be then. Especially if we don't get 3 points at Burnley.

Big "if" though. Has he even played since the WC?

Sold.

But still, it's just too good to be true that we would end this already incredible window with Vidal.

I honestly feel like a spoiled kid that keeps wanting more and more right now. I hate it, but can't help it.

Make it happy Woody, you strange little man.

Swap Blind out for a decent defender.

Nah, we're not getting another defender.

Blind will cover and do a decent job till January/next summer when we should go all out for Hummels or someone of equivalent quality.

Sources: United turn focus to Vidal

The rumours about Arturo Vidal's impending move to Manchester United from Juventus have resurfaced and are picking up steam.

Manchester United will turn their attention to finally signing Arturo Vidal from Juventus, sources in England and Italy have stated, after just agreeing a fee with Real Madrid to acquire Angel Di Maria.

The club's mooted interest in Vidal has been a long-running theme of the summer, despite Old Trafford officials regularly briefing that the speculation only came from the player's camp.

ALL-TIME HIGHEST TRANSFER FEES

1) £85m Gareth Bale -- Tottenham to Real Madrid, Sept. 2013

2) £80m Cristiano Ronaldo -- Man Utd to Real Madrid, June 2009

3) £75m Luis Suarez -- Liverpool to Barcelona, July 2014

4) £71m James Rodriguez -- Monaco to Real Madrid, July 2014

5) £56m Kaka -- AC Milan to Real Madrid, June 2009

6) £55m Edinson Cavani -- Napoli to PSG, July 2013

Sources have repeatedly stated that United's interest was very real, however, and it now appears that they will finally act on that as the club's need for a midfielder becomes so pressing.

Much was made of Louis van Gaal name-checking Vidal after the 1-1 draw with Sunderland, but that was more than a piece of mischief from the manager, even if he also referenced Leo Messi.

The Dutch coach is now pushing United to make the deal happen, despite previously having had doubts about the purchase, and maintaining some concern about his fitness.

The ESPN FC team break down the numbers on some of the most expensive transfers in European football and analyse whether Di Maria is worth a big transfer fee.

For his part, Vidal is also hugely interested in moving to Old Trafford, and discussions between representatives have already covered the idea of an incentivised contract because of his knee situation.

ESPN had previously been told by sources that Juventus set United a price of 45 million pounds in June. The Italian champions have been hugely wary of the public image the exit of such a player would create, especially after the departure of title-winning coach Antonio Conte in what has been a fractious close season.

Juventus have privately maintained that any sale must come in time for them to properly reinvest, and even set an initial deadline of last Friday. United will now test that, and it has been mooted in Italy that the money from the sale of Vidal could then be used to challenge Real Madrid for the signing of Radamel Falcao.

It is thought that United's pursuit of the player could go right to the end of the transfer window, which closes Monday, Sept. 1.

The Old Trafford outfit also maintain interest in Ajax's Daley Blind, who worked so well for Van Gaal during the World Cup with the Netherlands.

Despite a close-season that had been so frustrating, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward may yet justify his words from a mid-summer interview that United would do real business, and produce a genuinely excellent window.

30m and Hernandez ought to do it. That would be great business. Show 'em Cleverley's highlight reel August 2011 - October 2011, might be able to throw him in too.

Offer Fellaini, too. They can have all the wigs from the club shop for free.
Hernandez + Fellaini + Anderson + Cleverley + £20m to keep things fair? We should pay them £5m for taking Anderson.

Cash: £20m
Hernandez: £15m
Fellaini: £12m
Cleverley: £5m
Anderson: £-5m
Total: £47m.
