Manchester United transfer news and rumours: Arturo Vidal move ON as United settle on £34million asking price?

Louis van Gaal is ready to make a final £34million move for Arturo Vidal - and take United's two-year spending past the £200million mark.

The Chilean has been involved in one of the sagas of the summer with the Red Devils considering Juventus' asking price too high.

But after seeing his midfield perform so poorly in the opening two games of the season, Van Gaal is ready to make a move, according to the Independent.

The club will want to put Vidal through a vigorous medical at Carrington though to ensure his knee problems are behind him.

Meanwhile, the Express reports United will use Javier Hernandez as part of the deal.

Juve are interested in the Mexican striker, who is out-of-favour at Old Trafford, and will demand he is included in any deal.

Man Utd insist on £34M Vidal undergoing stringent medical

Manchester United remain upbeat over their plans for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.

United are considering making a £34m bid for the Chile international.

United boss Louis van Gaal name-checked Vidal twice in his press conference after a 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Sunday.

The Juventus star has been linked with United all summer but club chiefs are worried about his right knee.

Vidal had an operation before the World Cup to repair his meniscus and was never fully fit in Brazil. He failed to complete any of the three games he played.

According to the Independent, United are considering an appearance-based contract similar to the one offered to Michael Owen.

The 27-year-old will go through a rigorous medical at the Carrington training ground before any possible deal is done.

Things starting to heat up a bit? :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p

Is it worth the risk if his knee really is that dodgy? The last thing we need is yet another midfield signing that doesn't work out.

Only saw the quotes from the Chilean medic today. Can see why he might be perceived as damaged goods.

Universidad de Chile’s team doctor, Alejandro Orizola, described the operation that patched him up for the World Cup as “a hasty procedure” and claimed that “it would always bring with it a regression in his final recovery”.

(in case anyone else hasn't read them yet)

Yes, because then we can at least start beating teams on paper, which is all that matters.

Muppets gonna muppet.

Imagine if we managed to sign Vidal as well as Di Maria.

Unbelievable Jeff.

His knee is not dodgy, he is already playing games, half of our squad has more serious injuries, the likes of Strootman too, would be silly to miss out on one of the (perhaps the best) best CMs in the world just because we are too cautious.

I'm sure I read somewhere that we don't do insurance for our players against long-term injuries. Which seems pretty stupid. Perhaps it's not true or too expensive. Whatever. I agree that we don't need another Hargreaves situation. The whole "waiting for him to recover" is part of the cause of our CM issues now.

I think Hargreaves has made us more zealous in our cautiousness.

Didn't stop us with RVN though and look how that turned out.

I have no problems at all with the club taking every measure to form the best evaluation of his fitness possible. Just like with Ruud, if the club feels it's not worth the risk, you have to stand by it.

That''s a pretty frightening quote if true. No matter how good he has been, we don't want to buy a guy who won't be able to perform up to his usual levels. Could be a Hargreaves mark 2.

Yeah true, but Hargreaves was always a very injury-prone player, more comparable with van Persie and even he was the main reason why we won the league. Gündogan would be a player, who could end up in Hargreaves 2.0, but Vidal isn't like that at all. Now it's the ideal time to sign him, next year things could already be more difficult, we are the only team which is really interested this summer, so I hope we don't miss this opportunity. That doesn't mean we shouldn't do medical checks, check him 24 hours if needed, but if things look ok, please sign him ;)

Was Hargreaves anywhere near as good as Vidal is? I mean, c'mon, now. If Ronaldo had two broken knees and his metatarsals were buggered he'd still pass a medical for any club.

I'd wish but there is just no way we are signing and Di Maria and Vidal in the same window.

Were you also saying that there is no way we are getting Di Maria earlier? I mean I don't understand the confidence in your statement since you know nothing about what the club is willing to spend this summer.

Don't take it too seriously, it is more in the lines of if it happened I couldn't believe me eyes

I think we need a quality CM more than the likes of Benatia now. True that he was one of the best CBs last season but most of our issues with defense is that our midfielders are too fkng shite and give zero protection to our defenders. The nightmare on Sunday was just another example of how the opposition strolled through our midfield and had a crack at our CBs far too often. Someone like Vidal or even De Jong would help us a lot in that regard.

I totally agree

This transfer story has been too long-winded and complicated to be resolved successfully.

C'mon, people, it's United...

Probably but then given most these deals aren't going to be cash up front probably doesn't make a huge diff if we spent c£45m on him now as opposed to a similar amount next season. Tbf if we got him then I don't think unless injuries hit we'd need to make some major investment next summer so could use that money now. If he's available and we're happy with his knee then I don't think it's too ott if we went for him unless the expenditure this summer means than next summer transfer pot is already a lot lower.

I think we have put all our eggs on 1 basket if we are going full out for him.

We know his knee problems but still can't resist, it's like the local slapped who is a 8/10 we know every man and his dog has had a bit but still can't resist...

Oh I'am not saying we don't have the cash for it, more like we have'nt had a big player coming to United in years, certainly not for a position that we really needed him and than suddenly we would sign two of the best players in the world for the wing and cnetral midfield. I don't think I could believe me eyes if that happened, more chance of me winning the lottery today.

Yeah it is undoubtedly strange times. Just think of the money spent on Fellaini had been put to good use, we could be challenging for the title (though if we get lucky with injuries and sign ADM and Vidal think we'll have a shot anyway).

If this was ever on, it would have been done by now. Juve are not going to sell him now. Why would they?.

Knowing Juve board they'd love it if we bid late and then not have to spend.

Juve still have Pirlo, Marchisio and Pogba, it's not like if they sold Vidal they have to get a replacement.
They aren't the wealthiest, table an offer they can't refuse simply.

I mean why now??.. Like I said if we had an genuine interest or Juve had the interest of selling him, agreement would have been reached weeks back.

With the signing of Di Maria, it is obvious Woody doesn't care about money and would reach the valuation of Juve.

I don't believe the bollocks that we waited for him to play in a friendly. Well, what if he didn't feature at all in Pre-season??. If we are worried about his knee, we would have analysed the medical reports and done a medical of our own on agreeing a fee.

Depends on LVG who wanted time to assess his squad. I get what you're saying though.

A "hasty procedure" that " would always bring with a regression in his final recovery" does not sound good, but to someone not familiar with medical jargon it's not clear what's meant. I looked up the word 'regression' and the most unsettling definition was 'a progressive decline of a manifestation of a disease'. We wouldn't want to be in the same room with that.

Or the medic might simply have meant 'delay'. Which we could probably live with.

Manchester United want Arturo Vidal to join Angel Di Maria

Louis van Gaal has told Manchester United to meet the asking price of Arturo Vidal after months of failing to negotiate a lower fee, reports The Independent.

The Old Trafford chief has been reluctant to meet the £34 million asking price due to concerns over Vidal's long-term fitness. The 27-year-old has suffered knee problems in the past, making the big outlay too risky for Manchester United.

The fact remains that Vidal has not started a Serie A game since March and was played four times with the knee injury before it was operated on. It was obvious the player was not fully fit in Brazil, where he represented Chile at the World Cup.

Complex contract

However, Vidal remains Van Gaal's top transfer target - the manager dropped his name twice in a recent press conference - and is ready to make the deal work with a complex contract offer.

Van Gaal believes he can spread the risk of signing Vidal out by offering the Chile international a complex contract based on appearances and on-field success. Whether Vidal would be willing to accept such a deal is unknown.

£200 million barrier

A deal for Vidal would take Manchester United's spending above and beyond the £200 million barrier since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2012. It would also be the third time Ferguson's transfer record had been broken since his abdication.

Juan Mata became Manchester United's record signing in January, which is soon to be trumped by Angel Di Maria. Vidal would also beat Dimitar Berbatov's fee of £31 million - Ferguson's most expensive signing.

Manchester United Target Double Swoop for Arturo Vidal and Daley Blind Following Angel Di Maria Capture

Manchester United are reportedly set to make a £52m double swoop for Arturo Vidal and Daley Blind of Juventus and Ajax respectively.

According to the Express, Louis van Gaal has gone into overdrive following the capture of Angel di Maria for a British record fee and is now ready to sanction a double move for Vidal and Blind.

United will take their two-year spend to over £200m if they complete moves for the Chilean and the Dutchman.

The Chilean's move to Old Trafford has been one of the longest-running transfer sagas of the summer, which seemed to have hit a dead end after Juventus publicly stated the midfielder was not for sale.

However, it is believed the Red Devils are reigniting their interest in the midfielder and are willing to offer the Italian champions £34m in order to bring the former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder to Manchester.

Following the draw to Sunderland, on the topic of transfers, Van Gaal stated that he could not talk about signings until they were finalised but hinted United could sign big players because they are a big club.

"I cannot say anything about transfers, you have to understand that. When a transfer has been finished, then we can say something. But now you have to wait and see," Van Gaal said, as quoted in the Express.

"When the moment is there, Manchester United shall announce it."

"It is not only Di Maria - maybe [Arturo] Vidal or [Lionel] Messi! We are a big club," the former Netherlands manager added.

The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager has also been targeting some defensive reinforcements and has earmarked Ajax defender Blind.

The Dutch defender played under Van Gaal during the World Cup and, apart from playing as a left-back, he can also play as a defensive midfielder.

It is believed the Red Devils boss is planning an £18m bid to bring the defender to Old Trafford. Moreover, the player himself admitted earlier in the summer that it will be difficult to turn down overtures from European giants such as United and Barcelona.

An Ajax club source has revealed the deal to take Blind to United will be completed within the coming days: "All the talk is that a deal should be signed and sealed in the next few days. It seems Daley's set his heart on Old Trafford.

"He knows Van Gaal as he was his national coach until last month and that is in United's favour."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is so on.

I hope we don't take a gamble on him if we have doubts over his knee issue.

If were spending big again it needs to be on someone we know we can depend on.

Maybe see how his knee holds up in a game?

That's the only logical thing I can think of.

@XdanielredX - please make sure if you're posting full articles that you don't post any that are behind a paywall. I dunno if any of those are, but just something to bear in mind if you're posting a few. Cheers.
