Arturo Vidal

There's a good chance, to be fair. Van Gaal doesn't mention players for no reason.
How do you know Van Gaal doesn't mention players for no reason? He just said he's interested in top players ie Di Maria, Messi and Vidal.

I suppose it's a sign we're interested in him, but why wouldn't we be? It doesn't mean we'll get him by any means.

And that is what we need right now. A powerful and physical presence on the pitch. Whether that's Vidal in midfield or a new centre back in defence we are completely lacking that at the moment. There's no fight in the team at the moment and he would bring that in spades.

Don't disagree with that. Watching Fletcher dawdle on the ball and lose it time and time again, and sideways Tom meekly getting robbed of possession, is too hard to take.

I have just decrypted his quotes

He said we may get "vidal or Messi". He knows getting Messi is impossible, so the only one left is Vidal through the process of elimination. We will sign Vidal.

Decrypted quote " we will buy Vidal...also Demono is a genius"

Couldn't agree more. It is getting too painful to watch.

Give this man a medal. Genius.

It will be a crazy transfer window after splashing around 135m already, we go and get Vidal. 200m spend in a window will become reality!!

What the last two games have taught us is that, even if we sign Di Maria, we need another midfielder. Unless Carrick is going to regain his 2012 form, we need another top class body in there. Cleverley and Fletcher is the poorest United midfield I have ever seen and I hate saying that because Fletcher used to be great. But he's not the player he was and never will be. Herrera is needed back ASAP too. If Vidal is the other midfielder we get then great, but we need someone.

Regardless of Carrick replicating his form or not we need a bulldog like warrior buried in the heart of our team and Vidal is exactly that. And even if he can't speak a word of english he would make a better captain than any of our current players. There's no fight or spirit in our team and be would bring that so well.

It probably wouldn't be anywhere close to £200mil in reality, maybe not even £100mil as i'm sure some or most of the deals will be structured over a set number of years.

Obviously Vidal would be a great signing. But it's an unlikely one, especially considering it looks like we're spending over 50 million on Di Maria. Carrick replicating his 2012 form would be a hue boost. A midfield of Herrera and an in form Carrick with Mata just ahead of them would be incredible when compared to what we saw today. Those three and Di Maria and Januzaj wide and one of RVP and Rooney up front and we'd be looking pretty good again.

But yeah, Vidal or Strootman or even De Jong would strengthen it even further.

True. However I'd still be worried about the lack of leadership amongst all those players and a fighting spirit needed in a game like Stoke away in the cold and the wet when we're 1-0 down. I don't see that coming from any of our current players. So even if we don't get Vidal we need someone like him.

The reason why I think there is genuine interest now, is that Van Gaal isn't stupid.

He will know the speculation linking us with Vidal NON STOP. If he was worried about leading on fans, do you honestly think he would use his name?. Why not say Messi and Schweinsteiger, Messi and Pogba, Messi and Robben?.

It's a clear message to the board that he WANTS Vidal, we need Vidal. Obviously Juve have played hard ball and maybe we dropped our interest, but no doubt in my mind LVG has him top of his list. It still might not happen, but I don't think anybody can deny we have serious interest in him.

Let's hope we go balls out and get him too, we can pay for it over the next few windows.

I hope your right because we need him here more than almost any other player in the world right now. Yes. More than Messi or Ronaldo.

That is from accounting perspective and actual payment perspective. I am talking about deal values.

Thats cool, i just meant when people say stuff like "we can't afford to buy Vidal as well as DiMaria, that would be £200mil spent" when in reality we probably could afford to get DiMaria, Vidal and more players depending on how the deals were structured.

Just get him and Lucas Silva in and we have to go on from there. Not sure about the work permit for Silva. At least agree a fee and get him in Jan. But a player like Vidal is a must for now.

Woodward is C.A. by profession so he knows how to structure the deal keeping in mind future revenue streams. That is not something for us to worry about. It does mean though that we will probably be not spending much, for next couple of transfer windows.

One can hope I guess. Or maybe he tried to show that he was acutally trying to get him but it wasn't to be, to save his face. I really hope we can get him though. We need him like mankind needs water.

I don't think he is the kind to beat around the bush. If we tried and failed I think he would say it straight up. He owes nobody at the club any favours, why would he try protect them?

It's going to be De Jong and Blind and then Strootman in January....I'm pretty sure that's the way LVG always wanted it......De Jong and Blind would still be a massive improvement on Cleverley and Fletch in central midfield while Herrera maybe this season can play a bit part role as it might take him a while to get used to the paece of the league

If we somehow manage to get Vidal and a defender or two, yeah i can definitely see our net spend going back to the usual level under the Glazers for the next 2 or 3 years.

We can't afford to. I'm not saying we need to spend 100m every summer, but football has changed, we need to keep on improving. The best way to do that is buy the right players, at the right time. The better we become the easier it will be to get these players.

Okay okay okay I said I won't post in here again and won't muppet for King Arthur of Chile but LvG just name dropped him TWICE in the space of a few minutes!!! Please tell me he's one of the 3 players were chasing

Oh i agree but can you really see big spending every year under the Glazers?. I think we will be back to our £20mil or under net spend per season levels unless some top class player becomes available and we have a realistic chance of getting them.

In Van Gaal I trust. Him and Giggs pissing themselves when another shite pass mades its way out into touch had the look of a man which said "cant wait til I get non-shithawks in my team". He knows this lot aren't up to scratch. Vidal and Blind would be a fine pair to bring in.

Don't forget the stupid amount of money we're getting from sponsorships.

I wouldn't be surprised if like Di Maria, we make a massive bid for Vidal. I think Juve would accept anything over €50m.

Hopefully you're wrong, I fear you won't be though.

Years of underinvestment has brought us to this.

We've seen scholes, giggs, Hargreaves, tevez, Ronaldo, fletcher, Ferdinand and vidic leave/been chronically injured or retire over the last 5 years and we've replaced them with Valencia, young, Cleverley, Fellaini, Smalling, jones, Anderson to name just a few.

World class players going out, cut price (or in fellaini's case, just shit) players coming in to replace them. We are now trying to put all of that right in one window. We won't spend like this again for a long time. It'll be back to 25-40m net spend per window.

I fairness to the club, Nani and Anderson had the potential to be great signings for the club. But Fergie also bought some real shit.

This. Some here seem to forget we've underspent for the last 2 to 3 windows prior to this one. It's evident on the pitch. Keep in mind we only bought Fellaini last summer which means most of that budget was unused. So spending circa 200m will just be us catching up on our under spending of the last few windows. It won't happen again at least not any time soon
