In all honesty I think the fact he mentioned Vidal when talking about players we can't obtain pretty much rules it out.

OFF

Lads he said the name like I like that player but there is no chance in it happening, that's why he said Vidal in the same sentence as Messi.

lilcurt, meet Chicharito. Chicharito, meet lilcurt.

Yeah, we could also sell the likes of Hernandez or Kagawa, not that I want to get rid of them, but they are players who can be good elsewhere and we are already well-stocked in their positions, to get rid of them to improve positions, where we are just shit makes sense.

Best thing about these LVG quotes is this thread is alive again, its been a ghost town for 2 weeks now.

Exact same point last season after a draw Moyes was asked about Bale and he made some vague comment about United always being in for the best players. Fueled the last week of the window before we got Felliani.

Then 6 months later confirmation was brought out that we did try to get Bale.

I get it.. your point is we are actively still trying to get Vidal... Deadline day guna be good!!

Just mentioned Vidal again.

Van Gaal: "I cannot say anything about transfers. It's not only Di Maria. Maybe Vidal or Messi. We are a big club."

Seems a bit of a weird choice to mention Vidal along with Di Maria.
Covering himself maybe in case we miss out on Di Maria.

So first he mentions that we don't have top level wingers like Di Maria or Ronaldo now he mentions that he wants players like Vidal or Messi.

Come on Woodward. Take the hint again.

Madrid spent 216 million in the Ronaldo window. We are nowhere close to that.

Di Maria £55m, Shaw £30m, Blind£15m, Rojo£16m, Herrera £29m, Vidal £40m plus Hernandez(£15M?) =£200m
Pretty close with how i convert it. Never imagine things at United will get so desperate that we would. Even without vidal, we would have spent perhaps a premier league record. With vidal the amount would be excessive, which makes the deal somewhat unbelievable despite the talk of our warchest.

He was not asked about Vidal like Moyes was asked in particular about Bale.

Google how many times City and Chelsea have spent more than £100mil in one window, even liverpool have spent well over £100mil this window. Our revenue drawfs all those clubs, its about time we start spending big, especially now when we are desperate for some top quality.

Name dropping so if it doesn't happen can't blame him. Putting pressure on the board - rightly so.

So you have already added Blind and assumed the Vidal fees? Might as well add Messi for 200 million and show it to be an even 400 million spend.

Perhaps we haven't signed Blind, who'd you think would be a simple signing is because we still waiting on Vidal.

Vidal and Blind?

Putting rumors together, isnt that the point of the Vidal speculation? Nevertheless, the amount we would spend with or without vidal would be excessive admist the whinning from our fans that we do not spend much. We just do not spend it on the right players, which is why we are in this dillemma.

Vidal and Blind?

Arent we strongly interested in Blind?

Sounds like he was killing any hopes of a deal with that line by linking him with someone unobtainable like Messi.

Thats what I think. And the reason being Juventus simply wont let him go, much like we refused to listen to any offers for Rooney.

He could be missing a leg and be better than Cleverley and Fletcher. This has turned into a no risk transfer. A knackered, stumbling, 40% Vidal is 50 times the player of our midfielders looking at today.

Woody has to get Vidal now. Mentioned him twice. The second time, he had more thought into it, making it sound more realistic.

We have obviously been after him, both Woodward and Van Gaal have now confirmed that, but either Juve wont let him go or club incl Van Gaal has vetoed because of risk to his knee.

Ah crap! who knows???!!! Only a week of this muppetry left!

Blind is not the answer to our problems unless we get Vidal too. We need some one with power, pace, physicality, a real presence on the pitch, a fully developed player, and someone who is genuinely world class and that is Vidal and Vidal only.

Would make complete sense if we hadnt already signed Ander.

We have someone with those qualities, we dont have a partner that allows him to play at full capacity. And it wont be Vidal

I wouldn't say Herrera was either world class - let's be honest, experienced, fully developed, powerful, physical, or a presence on the pitch. Herrera's strong. But he's not Vidal strong and doesn't have Vidal's box to box ability. In fact I'd say he's the complete opposite of Herrera and would make a great partner for him.

The complete opposite of Herrera? So he's going to sit in front of the defence and play safe passes never giving it away.

Yeah he's nothing like that

Years of underinvestment has brought us to this.

We've seen scholes, giggs, Hargreaves, tevez, Ronaldo, fletcher, Ferdinand and vidic leave/been chronically injured or retire over the last 5 years and we've replaced them with Valencia, young, Cleverley, Fellaini, Smalling, jones, Anderson to name just a few.

World class players going out, cut price (or in fellaini's case, just shit) players coming in to replace them. We are now trying to put all of that right in one window. We won't spend like this again for a long time. It'll be back to 25-40m net spend per window.

I fairness to the club, Nani and Anderson had the potential to be great signings for the club. But Fergie also bought some real shit.

You obviously haven't watched enough of Vidal or Herrera.

Herrera isn't world class but that's such a hard to define classification anyway. He's not a top bracket and elite player I suppose. But he doesn't have to be. Let's remember, Van Gaal is all about the system. Herrera has great individual qualities, but his touch, passing and work rate are all excellent and that is why he'll work well for LVG and United. Vidal is quite similar I think, but his strengths are more weighted towards physicality.

And that is what we need right now. A powerful and physical presence on the pitch. Whether that's Vidal in midfield or a new centre back in defence we are completely lacking that at the moment. There's no fight in the team at the moment and he would bring that in spades.

I don't think its on but I don't think Van Gaal was just being silly or he would have named Ronaldo alongside Messi, there's obviously some substance there, he knows it's not going to happen but wants the fans to know he wanted Vidal maybe.

I think even a crocked Vidal would be 10 times more effective than the ones we have playing in midfield currently. We have to get someone with the quality of Vidal to have a chance at the top 4 this season. Di Maria might be a great signing but need someone in midfield.
