Arturo Vidal

I meant that there were no other serious bids for our targets at that point, City passed on Benatia because of the price and ended up with Mangala. PSG couldnt afford Di maria and no one seems to be in for Vidal (?)

If we paid the money straight up (Around £50M per player) they would be without question ours.

Agreed. Yes the prices are high, but if there was ever a time where we need to stretch our financial limits this is it. We should move without hesitation for Di Maria and Vidal if they are healthy and willing to move to United.

Do you think, all being good, that we would pay 150 mil. for 3 players? When was the last time anyone did that?

We'll be lucky if we get one of them.

When is the last time a top tier team had nearly their entire defense leave?
That is unprecedented.... of course this year we had to spend more than any other time in our history.. it should not have been a surprise really.

A medical would show if the knee is structurally sound, but I don't think it would show if there's a propensity for chronic tendonitis, which can pop up down the road. My understanding (from personal experience) is that if you don't let an injury/surgery properly heal, it increases the risk of that.

I agree, though, that we are probably using it as a negotiating tactic of one sort or another, whether there is real concern over the knee or not.

True I'm only speculating as no medical expertise and luckily no injury personally.
I would just assume with medical advances and no doubt top level experts in this field to call upon we should be able to get some clarity. Like I said though injury aside I still think we'd be in the same boat right now. I just think Ed doesn't have the expertise in these situations and the game of chicken he seems to be playing will surely backfire and cause another panic buy on deadline day followed by another piss poor season. Quite frankly the current squad and balance is not equal to any of last years top four. Including a Suarez less Liverpool.

So is this completely off then? what's the current status of this embargo? We're going to make a recommended bid on the last day of the window aren't we?

For 555 pages I've been firmly holding the belief that it still may happen, cause I'm not the type to get demotivated by silence.

But with the recent news that we're frontrunners for Benatia and Di Maria, considering the money it'd take to get those two, it's pretty much confirmed ArturOFF . We've made it clear we have targets and we'll pursue them, but Vidal doesn't seem like one of them. Feck me if I know why, but he doesn't.

Still believe, I think this has been a game of poker all along. I think Juve are very open to selling a 27yr old at peak value, putting their focus on the younger pogba and using the vidal fee to improve the squad with 3 quality signings.

R.I.P Pexbo
2009-2014

will be fondly remembered, but in the end was just too much of a muppet.
 take care, Pexbo. Any last words? Don't be that muppet.

For it to be "off" it first of all had to be "on".

Which I think you find, it never was.

I really struggle to understand why we don't appear to be trying to sign him, it just makes no sense. I'm delighted about Herrera and think he will be great for us over the years but do we really think our current central midfield options are going to be enough to finish above Chelsea and City? Vidal hasn't rejected a move and Juventus will clearly sell if we offer what it takes, why we aren't doing that is very, very frustrating. Van Gaal has already said that he tried to sign him before and Woodward has said we have all the funds ready and waiting to spend when needed, just baffling really.

It's clear pretty much all United fans want him and van Gaal is obviously an admirer too so at the end of the day he would be a brilliant acquisition for the club on the pitch and off it commercially as well so why on Earth are we apparently not interested? One of the main issues with last season was teams coming to Old Trafford and not fearing us in the slightest, if we don't make a big statement like this and bring a top player here then it could be more of the same without that fear factor this season.

Kind of hard for him to give any last words here (if this doesn't happen), when he's banned from the transfer forums.
Is he? Must have been during while I was away. What happened? Let me guess, something to do with Vidal?

Posted something really positive claiming it was ITK, then deleted it shortly thereafter, setting off about 10 pages of people asking to PM the info to them. Golden Blunder booted him for wumming.

I agree with this, it would be like telling your boss you had a job interview. You've got no piece of paper saying you're getting the job yet, but your old boss knows you don't want to be there any more so that's the end of progression there. However, if that's the case, this is a vicious circle and there's no way of us signing him. They won't accept a bid unless he's handed in a request, he won't hand in a request unless they accept a bid...

If a bid was put in then he could look for a transfer. He'd know that he actually has somewhere to go.

I think I may have cracked where this deal is going to fall down.

Yep. The problem is that we told the world we had unlimited money to spend. And then another problem is that the other team don't want to sell the best box to box midfielder in the world for anything less than top dollar. And they'd be right.

It is beyond all comprehension. Do not try to find reason behind it, because there is none. This would be even worse than losing out on Kroos for 20 million when we clearly could have paid more to attain his services.

What the flying feck do our club have against centre midfielders? Its been a problem for years but never more so than now.

If we've denied interest and secretly got things done behind the scenes then fair enough but it genuinely appears now that we aren't even in for him which would be madness. Vidal could have come out and stated his desire to stay at Juve and he hasn't, we have the money and Woodward also said in that interview he monitors social media and fans opinions, well practically every post United put out is followed by hundreds of 'Sign Vidal' comments so you never know, there might be a slim, slim chance we have actually advanced this more than people think.

If we got Vidal he would be a leading shirt seller and is also in the prime of his career but I don't think no Europe for one season will put him off coming here if we can just pay what Juve want, I doubt it's anything too over the top cos they could do with the money. Herrera will likely be a mainstay in our midfield for years but he needs a world class partner to work with, I'd rather we bought in Vidal now but it looks like van Gaal is going to wait and probably go for Strootman instead in Jan or next summer.

Gary Neville : "Vidal has a fantastic engine, he gets forward, gets back, he's schooled in this system(3-5-2)."

I keep expecting us to land Vidal and Di Maria because it's just mind boggling we wouldn't in our situation. Past history would suggest we have zero chance of such ambitious moves.

I keep expecting you to finally stop moaning but past history suggests there is zero chance of that ever happening.

we'll see about that...

plenty of time left to complete this one...
Sure, but the ITK was claiming that it's all down to the player's knee and once that's sorted out the move to us will only be a formality. Well, his knee is ok now and there's no move in sight. And that was basically the only thing that gave us hope, plus the Conte departure.

I haven't checked this thread in about a week, what's the general mood here? You guys still muppetting hardcore or has it died down somewhat?

We all feel like that young boy who in 1996, aged 11 fantasized for months about getting a Sony Playstation for christmas. Every day we would rush home from school and stare at the photo of this lovely, grey, communist looking machine in the Gratton catalogue.
Every friend we had, owned a Playstation and would be in awe of its capabilities. We felt left out in conversations that took place at school. Outsiders. Outcasts, but full of hope, that our hardworking parents would go all out this year and get us the present we desire the most.
We didn't sleep on Christmas eve, the feeling of pure excitment rumbling around our tummies put pay to any chance of closing our eyes.
At 6 o'clock on Christmas morning, we dont run down the stairs, we f"cking leap the whole case. We rush to the xmas tree and grab our main present, which in no way shape or form resembles a Playstation box. The size is wrong, The weight is wrong. It actually feels like My mam has actually wrapped an actual piece of fruit as an xmas present. The world comes crashing down. The feeling of hope is replaced with anger and despare in the blink of an eye.
A tear falls down our cheek.
And when we finally calm down, we remember that theres always next year, hope begins to rebuild until the realisation sets in that we still have the same stingy parents.

So yeah.. thats how my mood right now anyway.
